The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

I am excited about 750 Words as I approach the end of the February Challenge. This site has become my new safe addiction. I cannot imagine how I lived without the creative outlet each day. I’ve just signed up for March and I look forward to the creative ideas that will flow as spring approaches. Thanks Buster.

This has been an amazing site. It has helped me sort out how I feel, think and perceive my day. 750words has improved my typing and has also helped me with my honours project. It has kept my writing. Thank you so much for this wonderful site.

It has helped me clear my mind some days when nothing else can. It’s helped me think through things alone before I talk them through with my husband. They have been a sanity saver in so many ways! Thank You 750 Words! <3

I’ve had a tough time lately. I’m under/unemployed, living in a new city with new challenges, and struggling to get my own projects off of the ground. I’m finding great solace in my daily pages.
Here is a place where I can dump my anxieties and worries without fear of reproach. I can then think through the situation, and come to a new understanding with myself. I can find ways to be better and to do better.
When my life gets busy again, I hope that I can maintain these daily pages on this site, as I think they’ve kept me sane, made me a better writer, and been a shoulder to cry on.

In particular, I’d like an option to disable that annoying dialog box that was recently added whenever I try to close a writing tab. I’m always meticulous about saving my writing (and more people should be), so I’ve never had issues with losing my writing. The box that opens when I click that X is just a nuisance. If it helps other people, then great, but I want to be able to turn it off so that I’m not bugged by it ever again.

I’ve failed out of this month for no good reason what so ever, so I’m going to hand these guys over to the people that are more focused than me.

In the end, there’s always next month and the months that follow that for me to recover. Do well, and have fun.

I have a love-hate relationship with this website. I do these before bedtime, and I always have trouble getting started. If there’s anything I’ve learned in my four months here, though, it’s that once you get started, you can do anything. It all starts with one word.

I believe there is a benefit for doing these pages, but I sure would like some kind of reward. (I think this should be a reward in itself, I hear the wee voice in my head saying) Yes, I am sure. But, what if someone of authority stated that by writing morning pages, one day you will have a novel pop into your head, or you would be able to find that passion that you were looking for, or it would help you succeed in whatever endeavor you are seeking, even Nirvana. Well, I would certainly sit up and pay attention to that! What if he/she said your mind will be cleared, your heart will be open and you will find that essence that have been in your heart all this time, from the day you were conceived and you will meet your ultimate destiny and live a long and fulfilled and prosperous life. Notice I put “long” as I would sure pray for having a while to experience my life. There is so much to learn and do. Yet, I tend to wittle my days away with no specific purpose in mind, just, you know, fudging. Going back to this concept I am trying to articulate, if I found someone like that and I trusted that person then I would be motivated to do these morning pages. I think of people that I have come to admire and love and who I believed in. That would be Doug Olson, my loving minister; Tom Wilhite, PSI’s founder; my wonderful sister Pat; Oprah (Oh I love her passion and drive); Esther Jenkins, my shaman teacher. These trusted ones are gone now, save for Oprah and Esther Jenkins. As far as I know Esther is doing well, running her Shaman Classes. Oprah doesn’t know me, but I have greatly benefitted from her great shows. So, if I could imagine that that one of these marvelous people were to tell me to trust these morning pages and that it would greatly benefit me in the way as I’ve mentioned, I would believe them. So, how do I cross that veil from imagining to reality? I remember Doug saying that we make it up anyway. So, if I had him sitting here he would say, “Donna, I can guarantee you that if you are faithful to writing your 750 words (i.e. morning pages) every day that you will gain enormous knowledge as to what makes you tick. And when you know what makes you tick, you will know your own personal passion, and once you know your own personal passion, you will know your purpose and once you know your purpose you will do that which will benefit all of humankind and once you do that you will have a long fulfilled and prosperous life!” Wow, that is what he would say. Granted and assuming all is true. But, you know what? I get this. Because I already know that the more I write the more I understand myself. I KNOW this. I just answered my own question…with the help of all my beloved angels, including Margo, my dog, who loved me as I am. I am so blessed I truly am. Maybe I don’t need the angst of not knowing, because I do. Well, what do you say to that – I am my own best Guru!

I was skeptical at first, but after missing a day of writing I’ve found myself in serious ‘brain-dump’ withdrawal and have since discovered that 750 words isn’t just an app- it’s a total lifestyle change. After completing an entry, I feel exuberant for having shared my thoughts to absolutely noone except myself- and feel like my state of mind is all the better for it. My writing seems to be simultaneously getting more interesting and exciting, and every day I look forward to purging my activities on 750Words!

I like that I am able to customize colors on my writing page- but the green boxes aren’t color changable which makes me nuts, and makes my page look silly when my own colors don’t match. I want the entire page to be color-coordinated please. Thanks!!

I am so glad to have found this site. It is exactly what I need to get some of that surplus of words out of my brain and into a searchable form. It is helping me record family memories for the next generation, and is actually helping me remember things I have almost forgotten. Many thanks for creating this site.

Some days, I write down whatever’s on my mind, even if it was the same self-loathing nonsense as yesterday. Some days, I plan ahead, doing my best to figure out what my future will hold. Some days… some days I write a story about kids fighting zombies on a playground.

No matter what, I can write whatever I’m feeling. Thanks, Buster.

The option to write more than one note per day, on different topics

I would love the option to do multiple notes on any given day, so that I could have one set of notes that is a journal and other sets that are for writing works in progress. I would happily pay for this feature. Thanks so much for a lovely site, I’m really loving it and would use it even more if there was an easy way to distinguish my fiction from my journaling.

Even if you can’t make this happen, I still appreciate the site a great deal and thank you for your efforts :)

I love 750 Words. It’s as simple as that. I am getting the writing training I need to tackle my daily writing projects. It’s like scales to a pianist.

I’d even say I am addicted. I want to write and feel so pleased when I have written my daily dose. One day recently, I got so sidetracked and was so tired that I forgot to write. The moment I opened my eyes the next morning, I thought, “Oh no, I forgot 750 Words yesterday.” I was upset. It was like missing out on a piece of my favorite chocolate.

I could write in a word processing tool on my computer, true. But I like the little counter that helps me build and shape a nice little story each day. And I like the animal badges I get as rewards. Buying a cup of patronage was the next obvious step. Thank you!

Writing 750 words every day was such a difficult thing when I first started. But now, I write more than two thousand words almost every day. By writing so much each day, my ability to write has greatly improved. When papers are assigned for my classes, they seem much less daunting than they seemed before I started journaling every day. 2500 word paper? No problem! I have gotten so much better at organizing my thoughts clearly and concisely, just by writing my thoughts stream of conscious every day.

I started writing morning pages aged 18 when my parental guardian left a copy of The Artists Way in my bedroom. When notebooks became scarce I started writing on a word processor, but it never occurred to me to scale down the amount I was writing — I would still write 3 pages a day, only in 10pt font! Until I found this site it never even crossed my mind that I was writing about 3 times what I needed to, and getting confused trying to “fill” that space and taking up to 2 hours a day to do so! This site has revitalised my waning relationship with morning pages, and the additional textual analysis aspect is just an amazing, illuminating feature.

Morning pages got me through some VERY tough spots of the last decade and 750words.com combines that basic tool with much a deeper, technology-based approach to self-reflection.

Absolutely love it and glad I stumbled on the site.

I am working towards my first 30 day badge. This site has shown me what exactly my writing pattern is and on what day I will give up. The answer: 1 out of 5 days I will write and then I will start again. The game is just to write consistently for a month. And, to plan my novel to write in November.

I have just joined this site. It was mentioned in a newsletter I received this morning and I just logged in to have a look around. I am a person who writes quite a lot – but not as much or as often as I ought to. I get blocked, I lose faith in myself. Often, I am my own worst enemy. Now, though, I am utterly determined to get to grips with my infernal ‘internal editor’ and I very much like the idea of doing it in the compay of others who share the same highs and lows. Being a writer is the very best thing – but sometimes it is also the hardest. Thank you for providing this opportunity. I shall endeavour to make the most of it.

Improve the writing page

Allow the option to set a short (150 characters? 200?) topic to guide our writing for each day. Topics could be planned for any day in the future, and for the current day. The daily reminder e-mail would prominently display your chosen topic for the day, which would also be at the top of the writing page, where it could be further edited and refined. Topics would be stored for past days as title headers for each day’s words.

Before 750 words, I just thought about being a writer. I would read about writing, talk to writers and jot down notes for future stories. Everything- ideas, images and language- was all there but I lacked a platform and the inspiration to make it happen. Not anymore. 750 words is the platform and the badges (me, a Phoenix, wow!) along with seeing my work in front of me are my inspiration. Thanks to Buster, Mario and everyone else involved for this site which has allowed me to make that dream a reality.

I learned about 750 Words from Cathy Day. Decided to give it a whirl and cranked out 879 words. Not being sure if they were saved or not, I went to copy and hit cut of course… wouldn’t you know it. This may not sound inspiring, but maybe it was ordained or something like that… I’ll be back as soon as I finish this cup of coffee…
