The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

An iPhone/iPad app

The ability to search text for keywords – I know you can do it in the archives…it’s a very useful feature that I hope would be included in any app versions! Cheers! :)

How many days have I written? How many words have I spilled on the page? The stats matter, but the stats diminish when considering the affect of 750 Words. Writing daily lengthens thoughts, teaches word and sentence efficiency and sentence rhythm, and calms my head and heart. Thanks for offering the 750 Words for my expression, learning, and purpose.

Multiple reminders to write

I’ve been having a terrible time remembering to write since I’ve gotten out of the habit. I have the one reminder email, but could we set multiple reminders to ourselves throughout the day? I think this would be useful to me as most days my one reminder works, but on weekends and vacations when my schedule is interrupted I could use two or three more reminders!

I’m not good at sticking to things, and I know that 11 days isn’t a big deal to most people, but I feel like the 11 days I have been on this streak I have been better able to focus, more centered, and more productive. It’s a fantastic feeling and it’s really working for me.

One month of writing daily. That was amazing. I’m a writer who’s left writing for other pursuits and came back when I found 750 Words. Through the February Challenge, I finished and submitted my first short story in about 2 years! Waiting for publication. And I love my Blue Horse!

Most people that get to know me say “You should write!” “You have so many stories!” and I should. I have always written pieces and a little of our family history and have some great letters that expressed the time, situation and place, but these were scattered, in drawers, lost or whatever. Since starting with 750Words.com, I use it to tell a story, or a chapter, or an event, and I have been using the ALL CAPS: TO MAKE TITLES that organize. Not everyday, some days I just muse and talk about the day. But I am writing, and collecting pieces. Pieces could make a book. So I am closer than I have ever been to collecting the stories of my life. The everyday necessity of it is good discipline for me, an undisciplined person. My typing has gotten more flow to it, getting my thoughts down is easy. I have used diaries and other things, but this is getting it done for me. I am excited about the future with this!
I am in my 70’s. My time to write is now!

Yearly vacation without breaking a streak

I know the whole idea of a streak is writing a set amount of days in a row, and yet the idea of a vacation is to not have to do such things. I leave civilization for a month each year. No TV, no computer, no Internet access… and of course that would mean losing the current writing streak here at 750words… unless it was possible to define a certain timespan of absence for which the streak is temporarily suspended. It’s a feature that could be abused, of course, yet I hope the suggestion is considered. To minimize abuse the feature could be limited to a single use each year, It would be a very welcome feature addition to the site.

I’ve been trying to finish a novel, and 750 words gives me a place to write daily that isn’t blasted all over the internet. The system of keeping tabs on my activity encourages me to write more – and the badges are super cute.

750 words has gotten two novel written for me, and hopefully many more in the days to come. I’ve found this site more useful and effective than any other writing tools I’ve come across. Thanks!

Every day I have struggles of varying sizes and types. Doing my morning pages on this site helps me to reduce stress, and that will prevent illness and improve my mood. Thanks 750words.com for contributing to my wellness.

When I signed up for 750words, I thought I would use it to help me write my doctoral thesis – I could write three pages of my thesis every day and get done in no time. But I can never manage to write about my thesis here. Instead, I write song lyrics, I write “I’m stuck” over and over again, and I write nonsense. I’ve come to realize that this is actually good for my thesis: once I get the nonsense out of my head, it clears the way for my thesis writing for the day and helps me to be more productive. Maybe I will write something continuous for one of the monthly challenges some day, but for right now what I’m doing is working just fine. :)

Perhaps badges for the mood of your writing, for example coloured badges? Like pink if you write fluffy stuff, blue if its sad- it all ties in with the Eternity page :D

I love 750words. Even when I miss a day, I know that I’ve received the many benefits of clearing my mind. I like how this site is a place for me to empty my many thoughts. I can open up about anything, anyone, and I won’t be judged for it. At the same time, I practice my writing skills because 750words gives a subtle structure to my writing habits.
