The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

I just finished my 750th day of writing at least 750 words a day. I use this site for so many things – I clear my mind (I think of it as sweeping the floor), make to-do lists, plan stories, write rough drafts. I’ve completed seven stories in the last two months, and I am finally making progress on my novel. Thank you so much, Buster, for providing this awesome service!

Keep writing, and the words will find you.

This site is awesome. A great way to get me actually writing, since I self-bill as a writer all the time.

It’s great to know I can stick with something. I recently earned my 365days badge; it might be the longest I’ve stuck with anything, continously. It makes me feel like I can tackle other things. Thanks 750words!

The motivational features of this site are something kids love. However, 750 words is a big ask of a seven year old. A customised goal for primary students would be brilliant. Maybe starting at about 100 words for 5 year olds and then adding another 100 for every year they get older until it reaches 750 at about 12 years old. It would bring in a lot of young writers and help them to develop good habits.

First of all. I <3 750words.com and my next cup is going to be the wonderful tale of what 750words.com has done for me. But, I like to get the negative out of the way first. I need my streak fixed pretty please. I feel awful asking a second time. But, life has finally calmed down and this shouldn’t be a problem anymore. Thanks in advance Mario! :D

so i have been writing more or less every day since last June. I finally missed a day on December 13 because I had to go on a really long work day and didn’t get home until nearly midnight and was exhausted and just didn’t think of it and so I missed a day. Then I thought, living my life was far more important than not missing a day. So I have missed more days; two in february, one because i simply forgot and one because I was busy, once in March because I forgot and once because I was in a hotel (boycott Mariott) and it charged $12.50 a day for internet and I said, no way. So the tyranny of 750 words a day is the flip side of the inspiration and the discipline. I have written almost 368,000 word since June so it is ok to miss a day. Missing a day is not the damn point, people. Writing is the point.

Is there a price on personal growth? I can no longer LIVE without writing thanks to Buster and, though he does not charge for his various interactive motivational programs, the least we can do is support this man in his efforts to change the world, 1 Cup of Patronage at a time.

Happy Writing Day! My weather stat is back, my word cloud is so positive, my emotions and state of mind BIG improvement because I’ve used the dailiness of 750 words to forbid negative words, to actually talk about things, and the writing really is flowing now. Thanks Buster & Team 750!

I think writing is important. Being able to express yourself to yourself in a mush of language and words is a useful tool for communicating. I’m glad this site is around for that.

Devastated today when the weather did not appear on my stats. Small thing had a disproportionate effect on my writing mood, alas.

As a new widow I found writing to be just the “outlet” I needed. Feelings, ups and downs, and hopes have been released. Today I can pat myself on the back for earning a new badge for my 100 day streak. I am so very grateful for this site.

Remember, this is a journal. You are the only one who sees it. So, it does not matter how incoherent your writing may be as long as you write something every single day.

Drink up!

Do you eat daily?
Do you exercise daily?
Do you pray daily?
Do you write daily?
Each brings energy and relevance to heart and mind.
Buster is never in my kitchen, we don’t exercise together, and we don’t pray together. Because of 750Words.com, I write daily, and I presume he does too.

I only joined this site a few weeks ago and already look forward to it as one of the best parts of my day. I went out of town last weekend and took my laptop with me so I wouldn’t miss writing (and keep up with the March Challenge). As I hoped, I have rediscovered my love of writing.

I asked my friends on Facebook for lines of dialogue and I got 45 of them. My plan was to come here each day, take one of the lines I was given, and write whatever the line inspired in me. The third line of dialogue has generated 8 days of writing so far. I’m having trouble putting it away to work on the other 37!

I’m so happy to be here! Thanks for starting & maintaining this site!

Woohoo! A new badge! I finally made it to a 365-day streak. I was so angry with myself last year when I forgot to write my pages on day 349 and had to start over as an Egg. I am thinking, though, that having to do that made today so much sweeter and gave me an even greater feeling of accomplishment.
Thanks Buster for the badges. They are real encouragers. :o)

This site has been an incredible tool. I used it as motivation to write a novel last winter (the major reason I got my 100K badge), and have recently come back to it after an unfortunate break. I love the clean design, which minimizes distraction while offering an appealing place to write. I appreciate that you start each day with a clean page; it’s reasonably easy to access old work, but I actually find that the blank page makes it easier to start in on your words. I also love being able to see metadata immediately after finishing my words.

The badges, too, are the perfect level of incentive – just enough to give you a little push to write that day and keep your streak going. As a former Girl Scout, I am always inspired by badges.

Keep up the great work – I’m determined to get my 100-day badge this time!

I accumulate things and thoughts. I ponder and muse on ideas sometimes for seconds and sometimes for years and I wish to capture those fleeting ideas that never come back with quite the same clarity and to spend less time debating how to put it down in words. So I think of writing my pages as building my chops or exercising in the gym…now when a thought comes in I can capture it more easily if I want to or put it down in some kind of way knowing that I can meddle with it further later on.

I don’t know how good or bad of a writer I am nor do I want to. Just as long as I write my thoughts, blathering on endlessly until my fingers cramp up or seize or I just can’t write anymore. When I get to that part, then I have a burst of thoughts and I’m writing another thousand words. Feels good. Sometimes I feel I’ll go way past 500 days someday, like I’ll keep on writing until Buster can’t do this site or he starts charging or there’s a major hack and everyone’s entries are exposed: something drastic happens. Let’s hope it doesn’t. Write on, writers, write on, Buster!

I used to write. I used to write a lot. But I got out of the habit. I really think that writing is a habit and if you get out of the habit, you get rusty. Now, I’m not writing the Next Great American Novel, but I am using my 750 words every day to flesh out the ideas that have been bouncing around in my head. the first few days were tough, but as the days have added up, the words come more and more easily. Eventually, I’ll be able to start stringing these entries into something useful, but it wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t gotten started here.

Ugh… 86 day streak and then. I went out to dinner. I had vacation all scheduled. Is it worse to miss on the 86th day or the 99th or the 3rd? It seems worse to miss as you get closer to another badge. I’ve been writing 750 words for a few years now. Familiar with the set backs of missing a day. It helps me to see how I respond with other setbacks. This one is so clean and uncomplicated by personalities… one large dose of personal growth, coming up.
