The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

My testimonial is to just keep writing, no matter what! I didn’t finish the March challenge, but I promised not to beat myself up about it and just keep writing! Have a great day!

Changes to subscription charges

I think you should only be charged to use the site if you have used it within the month. I really love 750 words but am not always able to use it every month, and I would be more likely to remain a paying member if I wasn’t charged for months where I haven’t made use of the site. Monthly payments should be triggered upon use. Either that, or there could be the option to renew your subscription each month instead of having an ongoing membership which charges you automatically. Just a thought!

I have a number of issues clouding my mind including bipolar disorder and ptsd. I can’t take medication so I do a number of things for my well being including writing every day. Writing is a powerful form of therapy for me. After 76 days I have managed to write over 125,000 words. Wow. What did I learn as I wrote all those words? I learned that if I slow down and maintain an even pace I can clear my mind and express my thoughts. I also learned that there is (for me) no such thing as writers block: there is only a lack of discipline. If slow down and write at a pace of 30 words a minute I will accumulate over 1,300 words in three quarters of an hour. Sometimes writing can be a struggle, but if you slow down you will not be hindered you will advance.

Whatever your reason is for being here keep at it and don’t stop writing. Peace & love all.

This site, so simple in aim, has helped me to live up to that essential writer’s mantra: writers write everyday.

This site has helped to make me write more and write better. Without it, it always feels so easy to do nothing at all, and to end up just stagnating for longer and longer. Now I find that I can feel better about myself with every day I manage to finish my 750 words in. Here’s to the next day, the next month… Here’s hoping I can keep this up enough for the Phoenix.

Badge posting to Facebook/Twitter

I’d love to be able to post my new badges to my social network feeds as I earn them. It would also be great advertising for the site.

My biggest problem in writing is procrastination and dealing with the aftereffects of a stroke. 750 words has challenged me to write every day, even if it’s just babbling about nothing of consequence. Thank for this site.

750 words has had hugely positive effect and impact on my being able to write every day. Now, dear writers, Buster and Kellianne, I shall be stepping away to focus on the WIP that is calling for my undivided attention. Thank you for this wonderful site. I had a great time. Happy writing everyone. Goodbye xxx

not more badges per se, but maybe add a note to each earned badge informing how many times we’ve completed the one month challenge, for example, or how many times we’ve been back to the egg badge ಠ_ಠ

This works! sometimes i write useful things for work, sometimes i write and make personal discoveries, sometimes i write nonsense or trivia, writing just to write, but over time this has done something for me that is hard to explain-it is starting the day with the knowledge that i have taken a step forward even if I’don’t understand the step and won’t look at it again ,but still, I have put these words down every day no matter what and because of that ,something has slowly changed and there has been a shift in my sense of myself as a writer and possibly a person

It’s really tough to write use the iPhone or iPad via browser to do the daily words. Would love an app that made it more streamlined and easier to write on the go.

As a writer I struggle (like most) to find the time to write. Truth is it doesn’t take that long at all to write 750 words and once you start you can’t stop. I love how easy it is with the countdown and daily tick off! Thank you for making my life much easier!

I love my journal time, and 750words makes it so much easier! I love the process – when I write, the ideas flow, and I create my “to-do” list, and others. I can complete projects because I’ve been able to think ideas through. I can’t imagine my days without journaling, and I’m grateful for 750words to get me through the process!

This site has been there for me through divorce, school, a 500+ mile move, career changes, and more. I have written through tears and laughter, and have used it to sort my thoughts as I make decisions and try to figure out my life. I am so grateful for a platform to get it all out without having to keep up with reams of paper! I recommend it to all my friends and through it all, keep writing. One day at a time.

A lot of things have become apparent about my writing style in practice, but more features that may be more unconscious to the writer being tracked and displayed would be helpful, as well as boxes that display tips on how to use less common grammar symbols such as the semi-colon and hyphen.
