The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

I’ve tried various journal/diary sites and 750words really helped me to just write without putting too much thought into it. All the other sites, I would spend most of my time thinking about what to write, but with 750words, the words just come and flow out. Shortly after developing this habit with 750words, I became a freelance writer. 750words helped me not only develop a habit of writing but also gave me the courage to reach out and make money writing.

Thanks Buster & Kellianne!

More badges for accomplishments

The badges are great for keeping writing, it’s a brilliant feature. More “lifetime” badges would be nice so that streaks aren’t the main focus of the writing, but also keeping it going longer term.

Separate Entries on One Date

It would be nice to be able to have several different entries under the same date.

You could have a button to start a new “page” on a date if you’d already written words but wanted to write again on a separate topic. You’d still be able to add more writing to both until the end of the day, like normal.

If you look back on your words that would also make it easier to find certain parts without wading through one long entry. All data could still be counted as one day’s writing.

I’m currently on a 50 day streak. It has helped me focus on writing every day. I now keep a journal, add my thoughts on life and my writing. I love this place.
It’s well worth $5 a month for this.

I started with 750words over 3 years ago. My writing streaks have come and gone. Over the last few months, I’ve done my writing first, before I do anything else. I have an old iBook G4, probably a decade old, that still boots up by some miracle. It can’t run Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, or any of the other sites I use for work or distraction. But it does run 750words.com. In fact, that’s about the only thing I can do on that computer. So, that’s what I’ve been doing, every day, for almost 160 days. By practicing this focused writing, every day, I’ve also found the time to do other things that are valuable but often get pushed to the wayside. One example: last month, I started meditating, just for 5 minutes, right before I start writing on 750words. There’s another daily habit that I’ve stuck with ever since. 750words has taught me that I can get up and get something done, and that has spread to other areas of my life. Plus, I can write like nobody’s business! When you practice writing every day, banging out an email or a proposal gets that much easier. No more writer’s block for me.Thanks, Buster and Kellianne, for creating this site and keeping it going and growing.

This is the worst version of Word with Friends that I have ever played. I don’t even think it’s even multiplayer compatible (or in the very least I haven’t unlocked it yet).

I go on the app everyday and write all 750 words but I don’t get any points??? The leaderboard is filled with people who just use the app everyday, no skill involved.

All I end up doing is putting into writing all the random thoughts I have in my head everyday; I don’t see how this is helpful to me.

This is clearly a pay to win game, 3/5 stars for me.

I’m closing in on a 60-day streak (my longest so far) and I can say without hesitation, the process of writing everyday has had a profound impact on me. On the one hand, it really isn’t that hard to sit down and bang out 750 words in a sitting, so you almost wonder why it would be so challenging to start a streak. On the other hand, few things are more difficult in life than doing, anything, consistently every day. Yet, I’m fully convinced that we are a product of our habits, and the capacity that we have to grab opportunity will be directly influenced by the rigor of our daily disciplines.

750 words is helping me develop a life-changing, daily writing habit. By starting (or on sometimes by ending) each day with an explosion of thoughts and ideas, I’m cultivating a habit that will allow me to grab future opportunities when they present themselves. I’m excited to think what those opportunities might be, and while I wait for them to appear, I will continue writing and building the habit that will allow me to maximize them in time.

Thanks for setting up this site and thanks for investing so much in to keeping it such a simple tool for opportunity grabbers like me!

I was looking for a journaling site and found it here. Thank you for creating it! I LOVE the badges and how it inspires me to keep coming back. It would be great to see some new ones…maybe for longer words being used….more words (like 850/day for a certain number of days)…..correct grammar….punctuation. I can’t think of realistic ones.

The daily nudges are wonderful to easily access the site and get started.

I feel like I have become more productive since I started this for my birthday over a month ago. Writing is clearing my mind and giving me a more organized approach to my day!

Thank You 750 Words!!

Reached 1500 days on my streak today. I am so grateful that I found this site that many days ago. It has become a very important part of my life.

I notice that there are now almost 200 of us Flying Squirrels, Buster. Maybe it’s time for a new badge… I’m sure that some of those Squirrels must have over 2000 days, and a 2000-day badge would again give me something to work toward. What do you think?

Write offline

I don’t know how it would work – but I guess the platform would store data locally, so you could continue contributing daily even when offline (i.e. when you have no online/wifi access, which is often the case when traveling, or if the only chance you have to write is when you are commuting, etc.)

After so many failed attempts at the Phoenix badge, I am ready to make another commitment and push. This is such a great way to help me keep a routine with my writing practice, as I am a collector by nature. The simple goals of working daily towards something keeps me engaged in ways that doesn’t exist with just myself. Thanks for the motivation, and here’s to day 2 of an attempt for the Phoenix.

I’d love a better mobile site, and although I’d love an app for 750words too, I’m an android user, so I’d love one that wasn’t just for apple! XD

I’ve been a writer my whole life but never gave it the commitment and dedicated discipline to move further with my writing. Since I started 750 words, I have noticed an improvement not only with my writing but also with my daily life. I now get up nearly an hour before my alarm goes off and have been having better days because not only do I have a safe place to get things off my chest, I also can use the analysis to readjust my sails, bringing the best of myself out into the world every day.

Offline functionality for Chrome

Here’s the situation. I’m on a plane, doing my work-related jet-setting, and the reminder strikes: “Time to write your 750 words!”.

I feverishly open my laptop only to find that the plane I’m on, agonizingly, does not have in-flight WiFi. I longingly write in other writing tools, missing the simplicity and focus of 750 words.

I’m assuming it would be possible to have the site store a local copy, check if the user has logged in within a set duration, and log a few days writing until the site checked in online again.

Think of the possibilities. Writing while camping. Writing while in foreign countries with expensive sim cards. Writing while at the sketchy dentist’s office that has only has a skeptical “FREE WIFI” access point.

Thank you for listening, love the site!
