The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

750 words has been a great way for me to get my thoughts out. It is very meditative and I really enjoy it a lot.

Ability to Add pictures/images to the day's writing

I am using the site as a journal to log what’s happening in our family. I would love to be able to attach pics of the kids and things we are doing.

Alt Text on Badges

This shouldn’t be too hard of a feature to implement. It just requires adding a brief description to the various site badges. Some of us are visually impaired or totally blind, like me, and this would greatly increase our enjoyment of the site. For example, a badge description could be, “This is a delicious cup of coffee. It has white foam on the top.” or “This is a turkey with vibrant rainbow feathers, symbolizing the fact you wrote for three days straight.” Just things like that. It’d be truly helpful and shouldn’t be hard to implement. Keep up the good work, guys.

I was directed to this years ago from NaNoWriMo, I came back once or twice because it was amazing. It really stuck with me, and when a friend complained she struggled developing a daily writing habit I immediately told her about this place even though it had been over 2 years since I had used it.
I had been having trouble with my own daily writing habit so I decided to return. I immediately got back into the habit and have gotten more done on last years NaNo novel then I have in all the months since November. Hopefully I’ll stick around longer this time, but I’ve always been bad with commitment.

Bold, Italics, Badge Tracking

I would really appreciate the ability to use italics and bold during my daily 750, perhaps even vary text size within my entries.

More badges would also be a bonus, as those are great incentive.

And being able to track my progress within a certain badge. To know that I have 5 more days of early rising before I finish the achievement, etc.

Ten days away from getting the next badge, the Phoenix badge, which I have never attained after more than two years on the site. I used to struggle for a good 45 minutes to an hour to accomplish my entries. 750 Words has helped me so much, in more ways than I could have imagined – in writing creatively and sorting out my emotions. Over time just having this “brain dump” has helped me to stem the tendency to transfer my concerns about inner conflicts to situations I encounter in the outside world. Thank you, Kellianne and Buster!

So unbelievable, and yet so satisfying. Tonight after my writing my streak is 1550 days and I just passed 2.5 million words written. Not that I’ve manifested anything publishable—yet, but just to have created that kind of output for that long a time is something I could never have accomplished without this site. I’m extremely grateful to Buster and Kellianne. Thank you so much, guys. (Now if my monthly summary would just get straightened out to reflect my streak…)

After being away from 750 words (but refusing to stop the monthly donations!) for almost 2 years, I started writing again 4 weeks ago. In that time, 750words has helped me deal with new anxieties, write parts of three short stories, sort out my personal priorities (I’m going to move to the City from the SUburbs where I’ve lived my entire life), and in general feel better.

It’s had enough impact that co-workers have spontaneously asked me what’s up in my life, as I seem happier and more productive the past 2 weeks.

Thanks, 750words for helping me get ideas out of my head, and someplace I can use them!

I love writing, but I am good at procrastinating. 750 Words is my trick to not procrastinate. :) Maintaining my writing streak on 750 Words is enough to keep me going each day. I don’t get that support from a paper journal or some electronic file. I perceive the badges as kind and personal cheering along the way.
I am thankful to the friend who introduced me to 750 Words back in 2010 and, of course, I am very thankful to Buster and Kellianne for creating this space for “my” personal writing journals. May 750 Words live long and prosper!

We all have a touch of genius. That unique perspective which touches our humanity and would encourage so many. But most of the time it’s stuck in our head, afraid to come out, and bless the world with it’s transparent presence. This site helps bring that out and make our world a more authentically confident one at that.

Thank you Kellianne and Buster for this amazing site. I have been an on again/off again writer since 2010! I love this site. It has helped me journal my way through miscarriages, serious illnesses of parents and other loved ones, a new baby, and struggles with anxiety.

It has also been a great motivator for me to achieve some creative writing goals, including winning NANOWRIMO 2016. But when I look at all my output for the last 7 years, I can see other large amounts of work on other stories and novels. At this point in my life, I write for the sake of writing and am not sure I will ever share it with anyone else. But I know that I have done it, and those characters live in my own writing here.

Thank you Kellianne and Buster for also letting me “cheat!” I was 467 days into my writing streak (for those counting, that means my streak started on New Years Day 2016) and an awful bout with the stomach flu caused me to miss writing that day.

A quick note to Kellianne for help and my streak was restored! I made sure to write double (1500 words) the next day, so at least I didn’t feel like I was cheating too much.

So here is my testimonial note and my note of “Thanks” for this fantastic place for writing!

I signed up for 750 Words several years ago, but didn’t stick with it, although on occasion I revisited the site with intentions to do a daily writing practice that never quite happened.. Four months ago I began to develop some mobility problems, and am now in the process of getting a second opinion for ALS. Fifty five days ago, I began to write, and haven’t skipped a day since then. Writing gives me the opportunity to get the fears and worries out without overburdening my family members taking care of me. Writing has been a valuable task during a time when my physical functioning is failing and I am trying to create a structure for my life as it is now. My writing doesn’t look good, and may not be readable but it is helping to keep me together during this uncertain time.

You want to be a writer? Then write every day, they said. Use Word or Evernote, they said. You don’t need to spend money on a subscription, they said. Yeah well, they’re wrong. I look forward to my daily dose of 750 Words. Just realized I was earning badges. Badges? Who cares? As it turns out, I do. Great service, so glad you set it up. Thanks!!

Achievement badges are helpful in keeping up with writing or at least they are for me. Especially if you could combine them with your writing statistics.

I learned about morning pages almost 20 years ago. Of course, I stopped doing it 19 and half years ago! Then I decided started writing my first book. It was going OK, but I was having trouble finding my voice. My wife had been an early adopter of 750Words.com, and she shared it with me. After my second day of writing, I noticed a massive difference in the writing for my new book. That is worth $5/month in a heartbeat. Great site, great features! Thank you.

I am so happy to be a Space Squirrel! But I notice there are more Space Squirrels than Space Birds writing. It would be great to have some more badges available. For example, you could photoshop a squirrel plus a space bird into one image… or two space squirrels into one image … etc. I volunteer to do Photoshopping myself if you agree with this idea.
Thanks so much for this wonderful 750 words site, whether you take my idea or not.

It hasn’t been exactly a month since I encountered and joined 750 Words but as soon as the free trial period of 30 days almost passes, I didn’t hesitate to join as full-time member. 750 Words has truly made excellent changes, I personally could attest to that. I’m sort of having a quarter life crisis and questioning this and that, having so many thoughts that I can’t actually verbalize and my mood swings and anger management issues feel like beyond redemption that I end up blurting too many words that I don’t actually mean and sometimes even hurt the people around me. But when I started writing, what I did, how I felt, what were I thinking and all the rush of ideas I have, I realized that it was the good kind of release. I swear it can really do wonders, and I’m only here for about a month, what more if I keep doing this for months and even years. I also feel a sense of accomplishment that I’ve completed at least 750 words about my day. I hope that 750 Words continue to support writers or non-writers (just like me), to encourage them and see this as a really good outlet for feelings and thoughts.

I’d like to recommend some kind of add a KPI that takes into consideration the fact that sometime people don’t write in a streak. i.e. there are breaks / pauses while writing, could you please add a measure that also provides insight about the “net” writing rate / writing time ?

By net, i meant the time / rate that was actually spent typing v.s. time from first keystroke to last…

The Galaxy Badge

Any chance of getting a GALAXY BADGE for when you have written 2,000,000 Words (and I just did!!)? The badge would have the Milky Way on it. Because when you have written that many words, the Sky’s the Limit! I would love a new bage!! It’s been a while since there was one to get!! I’m also coming up to writing for 5 years in a row shortly! That would be nice too!! How do we go about getting new badges?? Thanks for this great site! It has been a God-send :) Peace & Love, Holly M <><

I did 750 for 100 days two years ago and I hadn’t even read the Artist’s Way yet, and I just realised yesterday logging in that it’s on the front page, wowza, what an excellent tool. This discipline is everything clears my mind, I’m gunning for making this a daily thing no matter what.

NaPoWriMo

I think it could be a lot of fun to have a badge for NaPoWriMo as well as the NaNoWriMo, especially since a single day’s worth of writing can be spent writing ideas and collecting different drafts of a piece as well as ticking off the days that we actually write something.

Since it is April, this is fresh on my mind, but I can totally understand how few, or far from everyone would enjoy this. But it could be a lot of fun and another way to get people out of their writing comfort zones, like the monthly challenge.
