The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

A better mobile site

I’d love a better mobile site, and although I’d love an app for 750words too, I’m an android user, so I’d love one that wasn’t just for apple! XD

I’ve been a writer my whole life but never gave it the commitment and dedicated discipline to move further with my writing. Since I started 750 words, I have noticed an improvement not only with my writing but also with my daily life. I now get up nearly an hour before my alarm goes off and have been having better days because not only do I have a safe place to get things off my chest, I also can use the analysis to readjust my sails, bringing the best of myself out into the world every day.

Here’s the situation. I’m on a plane, doing my work-related jet-setting, and the reminder strikes: “Time to write your 750 words!”.

I feverishly open my laptop only to find that the plane I’m on, agonizingly, does not have in-flight WiFi. I longingly write in other writing tools, missing the simplicity and focus of 750 words.

I’m assuming it would be possible to have the site store a local copy, check if the user has logged in within a set duration, and log a few days writing until the site checked in online again.

Think of the possibilities. Writing while camping. Writing while in foreign countries with expensive sim cards. Writing while at the sketchy dentist’s office that has only has a skeptical “FREE WIFI” access point.

Thank you for listening, love the site!

I have only recently started using 750 words, butI am loving it so far! I feel a certain high after I finish a writing. It’s something I haven’t felt for a long time, so thank you.

After two failed attempts at about day 179, I finally made it to that ever elusive 200 post streak, THE PTERODACTYL.
This, done in the face of crippling adversity in my life over that span, plus the two failed attempts prior. I fricking EARNED this badge. Thank you Kellianne and 750 Words!
Thank you for giving me a way to keep my writing close to heart and soul, safely vent every 24 hours…a daily goal that afforded some incredible sense of achievement in the midst of unbearable loss. Ever forward, I will keep on keeping on.

I’ve been the egg so many times.

Hitting the turkey is not that difficult. It’s the flamingo that gets me to pay attention, a mark that I’ve been doing something for a good amount of time. Nothing against the egg, but I’d rather not go back there again.

I recently got the rooster badge because it’s easier for me to write in the mornings, but the only thing that really matters to me — and I don’t know why — is that line of boxes. The satisfaction of an X filling each one. It means I wrote today. I’ve thought about yesterday, I’ve planned a little bit for today, and something has already been achieved.

Thanks, y’all, for running this site.

I’ve been using this site for just over four years, and it’s become a near-daily fixture in my life. I journal, write rough drafts, and sometimes use it as a chalkboard for projects I’m working on. I just noticed that I recently passed 1 million words, and I hope I’ll still be using 750words when I hit 2 million. Thank you for maintaining this wonderful resource.

This site has become a place I depend on in my arsenal of self-care practices. Writing always gives me the greatest insight, helps me solve problems or soothe my soul, and clears the way for my creativity to shine. I have always enjoyed writing but have found I don’t stick to it as well with pen and paper. Now I get to write and in a way that feels easier for me to follow though on. Thanks!!

This has been the single most effective method of establishing my writing habit. Considering my amazing ability to procrastinate, there is something about the way this site is set up that motivates me to write my drivel every day. Thanks very much for the motivation. I sincerely hope many others find this gem of a writing space!

Kilometres or Miles of Writing

We could have some new writing badges which showed how many kilometres (or miles) of text we had written (ie, 12 font, laid out in a line) as badges to aim for. Just a thought!

I started using 750 Words years ago, but it’s always been in intermittent spurts. But, I am in month four of daily journaling for the first time ever! This site is a life-giving part of self-care for me, and I treasure the blank screen and simple little word counter I use to reflect (especially useful in such stressful times as these). Thank you so much :)

Clear my mind? Absolutely. Work through my anxious thoughts? Definitely. Then, since it allows me to process actual data, I feel so much more at ease. Thank you, 750 words, for helping me to practice my passion and take control of my thoughts and feelings.

Wow. Just reached 200,000 words and am on a streak of over 200 days in a row. I honestly never thought I’d stick with it this long without missing a day. I just don’t do that. It has affected my life outside of journaling in ways I wouldn’t have predicted. For instance, I entered a short story contest and actually got my story finished, edited and uploaded by the deadline. I am half way through writing a novel. It’s not the first one I’ve started but it will be the first I finish. Thanks to 750words. So there’s that. More than anything, though, it’s given me a space to spill my thoughts onto the screen and leave them there, which through some kind of magic, helps me order them, prioritize them and turn them into actions. I can not imagine living without this daily practice now, and 750words is the easiest and most effective way I’ve found of ensuring that I continue to take advantage of this simple method of keeping my head straight. So thanks.

Thanks for helping me get motivated! 750 words or more each day have me on track, whether its just letting rip or writing towards my novel – it is on the page… That’s all that really matters.
