The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our son Niko, and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

Ugh, I know it’s not the point of keeping a streak. I know this. And I’ve had over 300 day streaks that I’ve lost and had to deal with that I felt. And after a couple of lost streaks I’m getting better at accepting this inevitability. With that being said…
Is there anyway of maybe getting a streak saver? Like on Duolingo? That way if you miss one day you can maybe save the streak? I don’t know. It’s just a thought…

I want a wall full of badges. And then scroll down and see more. How cool would that be?

The little word count at the bottom of the page, it keeps scrolling away over the fold. Could it please be made so that it stays at the bottom of the browser window?

The internet is full of so many things, good and bad, banal or terrifying. This site is different, this site is remarkable. Of the many addictions I have had over the years (some useful, others not so much) this is without doubt the absolute best of them. Not only do I come to 750 Words and write them every day with joy, even when it’s hard, but the amount of time I spend writing elsewhere has increased massively. My creative output has never been higher nor my mood so consistently positive. Tomorrow (barring some great unforeseeable event) I will come back and write at least seven hundred and fifty words for the fiftieth day in a row since I began. Badges are sweet but I won’t need one tomorrow to make that feel any better than it already does.
Thank you, Buster and Kellianne, you created something unique, inspirational and wholly good and you put it out into the world for anyone to share. You are seriously cool people – as are all the other writers that come here and do what they do. Spread the word, this place is a gift we can all share with everyone who for whatever reason wants or needs to write.

I agonize over work and money and life in general. I like to imagine certain things happening, but find that when I focus too narrowly on a goal, the path to it becomes so narrow and uncomfortable that I lose things along the way. So instead of bottling up all the anxiety and compulsive planning, I let it out here. Where no one will ever know about it. Except you, since I just told you all. Whatever. Point is, it’s good for my brain!

I have been doing Morning Pages on and off for over 15 years after reading The Artist’s Way. However, my discovery of 750words has revolutionized my morning writing. It gets me to my keyboard and taps into my creative juices before the practicalities of the day threaten to distract me. My fear of someone else reading my ramblings is gone so I’m freer to truly write whatever I’m thinking…to follow my muse. And who doesn’t love the badges? It reminds me of Girl Scouts. I was an over-achiever and had to get them ALL!! Even though the daily writing practice alone should be my reward, I admit I’m motivated by earning new badges. Thanks Buster and Kellianne for making Morning Pages so much fun!

Thank you for this wonderful site. I’ve written in notebooks and on computers, but the way you’ve organized your site makes it so easy and encouraging to keep at it. It just works, you’ve nailed it :)

I’ve been having a very difficult time at work for the past 3 years and it is not likely to go away. A lot of my colleagues are in similar back-wall-situation which really messes up your head. There are reason why I don’t quit. I do 750Words first thing in the morning. In fact to keep the effort disciplined I make myself write exactly 1000 words per day. I feel like I achieve something very meaningful for the day that keeps my head above the unpleasant circumstances. Thank you…

I am doing a NaNo (50k) a month, now. It’s great stuff, I never thought I’d get this far! Even if almost all my entries say “Feeling mostly UPSET” “Concerned with DEATH” (This is what I get from writing superhero/urban fantasy epics. Ain’t no one happy.)

I followed the Artist’s Way and journaled with pen and paper when I was younger. Life and military deployments got in the way and my writing became olive drab. The 750 word site has reinvigorated my personal writing, helped me deal with PTSD, and improved the characteristics of my professional writing. The meta-tag tracking feature has helped with all of that. Whatever your writing needs, spilling 750 words onto the page each day can only help. Keep writing!

Last Chance Reminder

I’d love for the site to email me around 10 pm local time if I have NOT hit my word count for the day, just to let me know that and remind me to write. There have been days where I thought I had written my words, and I either hadn’t finished (and forgot to go back and wrap up) or just plum forgot that I hadn’t actually written that day, and this feature would help.

I discovered 750words.com a couple of weeks ago, and love it. I’ve tried writing daily in other places – both in physical notebooks, word processors, Evernote etc but for some reason, this site makes it easy. I love the large uncluttered screen for writing, and I particularly like the analytics and badges to provide that extra bit of competition with myself. The writer’s challenge idea is great too – nothing like a public commitment to get you writing daily. Great job on the site!

An iPhone/iPad app

I have been writing my 750words.com each morning before yoga. I often times want to start as I’m lying in bed (via my iPhone). Since there is no app, this is not the easiest choice on early-morning eyes. An App would also be great for phone notifications, and prompt me to write more than 750 adding to my morning entries.

In the past four years, I’ve had stretches of hundreds of days of completing my 750 words, as well as stretches of hundreds of days of not writing anything. I can tell you for certain that on those writing streaks, I can definitely tell the positive difference in my mood and mindset when I just write and let all my thoughts go. I will always be grateful for having a wonderful place to do so.

Thank you to the team behind 750 words. I am really inspired. It keeps me going day after day. I just want to see a separate home page, so that as soon as we sign in, we are not taken to the writing page. I feel it should open as Home Page with an intro. Thanks!

I have been writing here since 2011, over 250,000 words and counting. When I write here, my life starts off more centered and there is a lot of space available in the day for magic. I feel more grateful and more able to handle the unexpected. When I don’t, the sludge of living slows me down. Thanks so much for creating the site.

Hi everyone,
750 words has got me really disciplined with my writing, I had been planning to write for a long time and now at least I get 750 words done everyday. I am working on my autobiography and getting ideas together with the daily writing session. I am currently on a 70 day streak and looking forward to my next badge. ;)

Better language support

To start with, right-to-left alignment of the typing area. Ideally, either as a global per-user setting, or on a page-by-page basis (for bilingual/multilingual writers).

I’m an indie author who has had inconsistent discipline. Mostly my problem has been getting bogged down in editing and obsessing over it. 750 words has given me an outlet to write something small every day when I’m engrossed in editing or otherwise. It’s instilled discipline in me and regularity in me that makes looking at my writing and doing my writing a habit that can’t be shaken.

I mean, I’VE STOPPED PLAYING MOST VIDEO GAMES. Nothing has done that to me before but this site. I can’t praise it enough for helping me make my hobby all the more ingrained in my life and my daily existence in a fundamental way.
