The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our son Niko, and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

750 Words is a great way to get me warmed up for a writing session. I used it regularly when I was working on my dissertation. Now that I’m transitioning to life as a writer, I use it for fleshing out story ideas and clearing my mind. Thanks, 750Words!

Give entries a title!

Wouldn’t it be great to give each entry a title? That way it would be easier to dig through your archives and find past entries, don’t you think? For example, I could title today’s entry as “Broke personal sales record today!”. Hope you like the idea :)

I learned about Morning Pages about a year ago, but… couldn’t do it! I bought a journal, I put it along with my pen on my night table.. Nada! But 750words.com got me writing! I wrote my first MP today. I’m beyond happy, and it was so easy, I typed from my phone! Good luck to all of you! Cheers!☕️

I’m back for the first time since September last and closing in on that flamingo for the umpteenth time since I started on this site. But I feel better than fine now… missed that daily mind dump more than I ever thought I would. Folks who should know say I’m a LOT less grumpy. Also thankful: a friend loaned me her spare until I can resuscitate or replace my failed lap top. Words rock. Even if they are written in secret and when reread make no kind of sense. Write on…

I have a lot of cups to spend because I’ve been a patron for a very long time.
Much of that very long time, I did not write 750 words a day. Often on those days I thought about it. I want to want to write so I never quit my patronage. I knew 750words.com would be here when I returned to my true self and began to write again. Here I am. and happy to be here—though back and forth to egg I go. I’m sure to hit my stride one of these days.
Meanwhile—Did I say thanks? Thanks! Buster (for this site and Health Month, which I still play) and Kellianne.

My brain feel good, it feels like a chocolate orange.
The screen lights up as i wake up and I put the words down quickly as possible. sometimes, Later in the day I forget if I’ve done it or not. I’ve also been using it before high stress or nerve wracking situations i.e. Auditions, talking to that pretty Barista. It’s a really good thing.

Even after writing pages for several years, I can still forget to write my pages, which I almost did yesterday. But thanks to the habit I have created on this site (Thank you B & K), I remembered just as my head hit the pillow. “Oh no! I forgot to write my pages!” So I got up and completed my 1449th day and made a new resolve to make them MORNING pages again. ;o)

Since 2011 this site has been a source of peace and comfort. I attempted to complete morning pages for a couple of years before I found the site—but never had consistent success. No longer do I worry my morning pages are going to be read by one of my six children.

By writing what is really on my mind, I have grown, healed, forgiven and become a better person. I have found that writing 750 words works better to calm me and focus my energies than ADD medicine ever could. There are no negative side effects to this site and I have accomplished more in the past 4 years than the 20 years before. Thank you for creating the site. Thank you for maintaining it. You have made my life significantly better.

I’m adding my Cup of Patronage in as a vote for more badges! I agree strongly with others that have suggested adding more badges into the dark and gaping abysmal areas that stretch forever between some of them. Maybe a Sparrow Hawk at sixty or seventy days? Keep up the great work, 750 Words, you’ve become a good habit for me! I get rather possessive of my daily post now. My family has finally learned to not breach the closed door when I’m in my Bat Cave.

Thank you, Buster and Kellianne, for 750words.com. I love the way it keeps me motivated to write something (anything! ok well, some days, really just anything) every day.

I use it mostly to summarize the past day, but because I have to write (or paste in) tons of words, it inspires an in-depth reconsideration that is so useful. What I paste in is mostly emails I sent and received that day.

Then (o lovely Internet synergy) at the end of each month, I paste your entire month record (thank you for keeping one) to Evernote. Of course I hope you keep my words around forever, but I have been on the Internet a very long time, so I’m hedging my bets. Also, it is pretty convenient to search Evernote for times I mentioned “Beijing” or “avatar.”

Thurber talks about a figure of speech using “the container for the thing contained.” 750words is a wonderful container for many of my past memories worth remembering. So, thanks a lot!

Gets me ready to write more focused stuff by clearing the streaming consciousness of anger, resentment, or just some nagging thing that won’t leave me alone. Very good exercise to use to prepare before writing something more structured. I am a tennis coach so I think of this as mini-tennis and the warm-up before you start a match. Writers need to warm-up too or they might pull a brain cell.

Just always concerned that someone out there might read what I write here and that does hold me back more than something like a hand-written journal. I like it the way it is, but would not mind something that scrambles the entry or being given the option to delete my entry (I guess I could just erase) but keep the record that I wrote the words…in fact, yeah, can I do that? Can I delete an entry but keep the credit for the words I wrote? Let me know the answer to that question.

Thank you so much for creating and curating 750 Words. I had been waking up in the middle of the night thinking about stressful work projects when someone I know recommended journaling. I remembered this site and gave it a go and have been sleeping more peacefully since.

750 words is so cool!

I love how cute and encouraging the badges are, and as a result of making it a habit to write daily, I have been getting non-stop flow of ideas and thoughts!

Thank you and keep it up :)

I have found the badges to be very motivating. Personally, I could use some additional badges for the intervals of days that occur in between the intervals that are currently badged. It’s a long way from one badge to the next at some intervals…and I’ve had the misfortune at least once to fall short of the next one by a small enough distance that it really hurt…having earned another badge in the middle would have really helped with the disappointment. And also badges in between those intervals help with feelings of accomplishment, even if you do make it to the next badge and the next.

Also, it would be great to have some random fun badges for using certain words a number of times throughout your writing (especially positive words like “thankful” – which would reward people for spending time writing about things that make them happy (that can only improve our daily lives and the world, right?).

Thanks so much for this site!

As I use 750words now for I while, i found out how to cheat. I could handle my knowledge about cheating more cautious, if there was a badge or a challenge for Non-Cheater mode maybe for 30 days without cheating (means copying text to fill 750 words, or schedule time off)

Let people download a month’s writing, or retrieve any day, in the daily format, and plan for a Title Option for each page. I’m trying to write and publish and want to search and save and review – to use some of what I’ve written on this great site.

More stats on the Eternity page

Bring it back basically, the individual day stats just doesn’t quite cut it because I can’t see an average across the various areas like past, present and future etc by looking at one day and then another.
