The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our son Niko, and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

Stuck for something to write today? Take a look around and write from someone or something else’s point of view. I just wrote about a day in the life for my cat. I might do a houseplant next.

This website has created a wonderful writing habit in my life.
I am much calmer, and more focused overall, by just loging into this site once a day, and just vomiting out all the rubbish and scattered thoughts that are running around in my head.

Thank you guys for this!
Im proud to be a member!:)

730 DAYS, 2 YEARS. Exactly two years ago, I began typing in this site, and wrote a really silly story about a girl with magical blood powers. So much has changed over the years and here I am.

I want to thank Buster and Kelliane for making and maintaining this wonderful site that has always been there for me when I was feeling lost. Typing out my thoughts and feelings was what kept me sane, and motivated me when I was feeling defeated. I’ve been through a real roller coaster the past year, and if it weren’t for this site, I’d be dead or completely hysterical, unsure and even more depressed. During those dark suicidal days, typing out 750 words really helped me feel better. I have written poetry, stories, daily journal logs and even a Nanowrimo in 2013!

I am very very very grateful that I came across this site. As soon as I get a credit card after I turn 18, I’ll be sure to donate to this site because that’s the most I could do to repay ya’ll. Thank you so much, 750words.com, for the 730 days of writing. I’ve been keeping this streak since I first started typing here, and I’m a proud space bird!

Here’s to more days to come!

More text analysis

I’d like to be able to see a text analysis for a longer time period, like the past week or past month. I’m not concerned about comparing that analysis to any other users.

Thank you. Since finding this site, I have written every day! You helped me achieve my writing goals in a way nothing else has. (And its silly – but I love the badges, please give us more types!)

Trade Patronage Cups for Missed Days

An option to trade Patronage Cups for missed days would be great. I know in my case, I have a “special” computer and flaky internet connection that apparently don’t play well with the site. Rather than contact support all the time for a broken streak, it would be nice to just trade in some of my built-up Patronage Cups to fix the problem.

Template

This is my favorite website of any website on the internet. I think a template would be really great. I would put my metadata keywords in the template. That way I could have the same metadata pop up every day, and I’d fill them out and be on my way writing. And my data collection would be much more consistent. Other people might find other ways to use it. You could subtract the template words from the overall count if you’re worried about people cheating.

Thanks to 750 words, I’m writing consistently and it’s now a habit. I use it to journal or write notes for books I’m working on or write letters. Whatever I use it for, the time and effort is never wasted. Love it!

Modify Word Goal

Users can choose to raise their daily word goal to whatever they choose (1000 words per day instead of 750 for example). 750 would still be the minimum.

I had an article on my to do list for more than 6 weeks without the start of a single sentence. 750 words helped me to get started with 750 words. Thanks for providing the service and the platform.

Writing 750 words everyday improves my life in many ways. It makes me clear my mind so i fall asleep easier and it carries some load of my shoulders when I am feeling down. It gives me a rare chance to write down my thoughts and move on. Sometimes I write to myself, to someone else and sometimes I even write letters to my future husband and kids. I am grateful for this.

Photo Journal - My Day Today

“My day today” is a feature that allows users to sum up their day in a few (say, six) photos. So, in these 6 photos (or whatever # is more convenient for the site)…the users can choose whatever 6 photos to represent or sum up the day that they had. Rather than looking back on ONLY the words they wrote, users can also see their day in pictures along with the words they wrote. so, it’s a feature to add photos to journal entries to represent that user’s day. i would love to be able to go back to a journal entry, and see some fun pictures I took that day that I added to that entry!! Please do this!

I know that badges are ultimately a little silly, but there’s many things that help to keep my motivation up and badges are one of them! I love my little string of animals.

I’m often traveling, which can sometimes make it difficult to maintain a streak of writing. Usually I can get online, but it’s often only on my phone. As such, I’d love either an iphone / ipad app or a more functional mobile site. I’m resting the feature list on an app, but really, better mobile of some variety would be fantastic! Thanks. :)

Not just badges for super long streaks, but a badge for writing on Christmas or something like that. Something to collect and brighten a day.

I am so deeply impacted by this process of daily writing. It’s therapeutic, healing, and inspires creativity beyond measure. I tell every client and student and reader about it, and I watch them get awed by the process too just as I was and then make it a priority in their lives. We are all writers and writing is healing and 750words is a gem of a resource. THANK YOU!

I’m writing consistently which is great. I do write every day as it is (projects in other places), but seeing the badges and the little crosses at the top of the page is very inspiring and makes it easy to see my progress. So thank you, thank you for providing us with this site.

Like a psi. I can drop my thoughts out whenever I want and still have a safe place to do it. I really like to have a Moleskine, but here I can control by stats whatever I write. That’s me. Feeling safe if I can control. That’s my goal for the year: to delegate my tasks to others. And I am talking mostly about my family.

I’ve been on the site for a month, technical difficulties have hampered my enthusiasm to write at LEAST 750 every day, but it has actually motivated me to become more tech savvy to avoid those kinds of issues in the future. I feel freer, happier and excited. Whether I’m writing crap or not, at least I’m writing. I’ve recommended the site to several friends and they are having a blast just having the challenge. The fact that is completely private is just another great perk. Thank you so much for such a wonderful outlet!

I have completed another year of daily Words and since going Space Bird on the 26th December 2013, have written every day. There is no doubt that 750 words is habit forming and I confidently expect to extend my streak to a thousand in May this year. So I donate 15 cups to a really inspirational site and extend best wishes to its creators Buster and Kellianne.

Happy New Year Buster, Kellianne, & all the 750 Word Writers! May this year be our most consistent in writing our words and living our lives. As always, I am grateful for this place where I can silence the editor and spill my guts on the page no matter how messy it gets. Cheers! Vicky
