The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

the february challenge has helped me to write again. Maybe not anything of literary values yet but I’m getting back in the habit, and in march I’ll be writing a Young Adult’s chapter book as part of a challenge.

I have written over a million words on this website over the past two years (422 day streak and counting). Having somewhere to go every day and a consequence if I don’t keep the routine has helped me write things I would have never expected to write, to finish one novel and to write the first 1/3rd of another, and to write words when I thought I didn’t have any left. Having some place to write every day has become invaluable to my emotional health and to the development of writing skills. Thank you for this wonderful place; the statistics in particular are fascinating and amusing.

I’ve known writing was my destiny ever since I was a kid, but as an adult with a busy life, a time-consuming job, and too many people yanking on me for this and that, writing too often takes a back seat. Finding 750Words and going for the badges (two days away from my 100 day streak!) helps me make writing a priority again.

I learn something new on this site almost every time I’m on. There’s a bounty that people split at the end of the challenge?? Woof! This site has no end of magical methods of motivation. I’m more psyched than ever to complete the challenge. Onward and upward everybody!

Might be nice to have an italic or bold font option.

This site is absolutely magical. I usually use it as Julia Cameron suggested when she described ‘morning pages,’ and the results are amazing insights and occasionally inspired writing.

I wrote a lot when I was in high school, and it was a big part of my identity, and my social group. Then I went to college, and while I spent a lot of time writing, a lot of it was academic- intellectually rich, but dry. I had a really hard time motivatign myself to write for just myself.
Then I graduated, and I wasn’t doing any writing at all- until I decidded that, since I had no end of free time, I would do nanowrimo, and I woudl use 750words to help keep me writign every day, even if I didn’t make word limit.

Now it’s February, and I’ve written for 115 days in a row. I’m not always writing as well as I would like, and a lot of days it’s just journling. But I am writing, and it’s made a big difference in reclaiming part of my life.
So, you know. Thanks.

I am publically staing that i will write 2,222 words a day as a minimum on weekdays and 750 a day minimum on weekends. I am attempting to complete the first draft of a verse novel by the end of June. I willr eport my progress as i go. Has any one used 750 words to complete an ambitious project?

I’ve been using 750 Words for almost a month now and in that short amount of time it has helped me to develop a stronger dedication and discipline in my daily writings. I love the site. The layout is simple, elegant, and (most importantly) functional. Beyond that, I love the monthly challenges and the badges – it adds some fun to daily writing!
Thanks for a great site!

This site is a miracle. It’s gotten me back into the groove of writing a bit each day. It’s also a great place for me to try out some of the ideas for stories I have. I’m so glad I found this place. I love it!

I’m the Lead Designer at my company. I have to write all the time. ALL. THE. TIME. I also head Art Direction so I wish 750words had an adjunct like 750doodles.

It’s easy to tell yourself to write. It’s far easier when you have a tool that thousands of others have used. The simplicity of the site is what makes it so appealing. You type, it counts. You spend time, it saves. Somehow Buster found a genius way to make a site that’s private and social at the same time.

I no longer have to schedule time to sit and write. I simply log in when something is on my mind and find myself just pouring it out onto the page for 20 minutes or so at a time. It’s driven my productivity. Now I find that I’ve written narrative, backstory, and even hashed out ideas that went to feed the mechanics of a project, all without really trying too hard.

I honestly can’t estimate the value of the site when it comes to getting me to sit down and create something.

Text analysis in other languages than english

I spend my time writing partly in english and french (I’m a native french speaking). The text analysis tool is pretty awesome in figuring out your style or in directing the writing in a specific direction. Having it analyse text in french (or other languages) too would be pretty useful (if it can be done on a per text basis).

I’ve been writing morning pages since 2008 when I first heard about it from the book, ‘the artist way’. I’ve still got a boxful of notebooks in my attic, which are worth of, probably 40 + books. It started creating problems as I was running out of space to keep all the notebooks whilst I love doing the longhand writings. Encountering this website was one of my personal highlights in 2012, and it’s one of those things that I cannot give up. It’s highly and positively addictive as it is just obvious that many aspects in my life have been improved ever since I’ve been doing morning pages (and also 750 words) and it provided me the secret places I can reach whenever I feel up or down, high or low to find my centre.

If you are in doubt, feel the doubt but keep on writing anyway, you will be surprised!

750words.com has changed everything I know and feel about writing. It has changed my daily routines and really got my in the writing mindset for the rest of the day. I work at night bartending and waiting tables, but during the day I try and spend two-three hours after my 750 words, only writing. I’m glad I’m able to contribute to such a wonderful community of writers while also benefiting myself.

A heavy workload followed by a bad case of the flu threw me off my first attempt to do a kind of NaNoWriMo here back in November. And then I fell out of practice. Now I am back because I have grown addicted to the sheer pleasure of writing that I cultivated throughout 2012. I’ve missed it.

I just bought some cups of patronage before I read about the changes that are coming, but I am fine with that. I love the single focus of this site. I have Evernote, for example, which is suggested as a free alternative, but I like exactly what I get here: a blank page and a ticker to tell me right off how many words I have written. On days when I am “in the flow”, I am amazed at how much I can produce in a short time. On days when my mind is a blank, it becomes a game to see what I can write to make it to 750. 750words provides the right amount of subtle reminder for me.

It’s nice to be back. :)

Namaste to all *:-) I have now reached the momentary plateau of 100 days of successful writing of at least seven hundred and fifty words. I have learned much about the practice of my writing and also have been able to look inside some previously quite dusty windows further into myself. I am grateful *:-)

I’ve been using 750 words for over a month. I’m on a 37 day streak and I’m acing the February challenge. Yay! As a life coach I use this place to clear my mind every morning, a lot like meditation, and it helps me to resolve issues I have. I also recommend this site to my clients. It’s an excellent tool. Thank you Buster!

Please, please, please communicate site changes better, especially on the home page or other notification. I am happy to support the site financially and have in the past, but the way the transition is being (poorly) communicated makes me very uncomfortable and undermines much of the goodwill I have for the site.

I’ve been using 750words.com for my daily writing for a long time now (just past a 750 day streak). While change is never comfortable, I’m glad to see the site moving to a pay model. I was always worried about whether the site would just vanish one day, and a pay model means that it isn’t likely to go poof if Buster decides he can’t run it any longer. I’m happy to be a patron here, and I encourage others to do the same.

Buster, Just want to say how much I appreciate this site and your “charitable” actions to keep it running. I had a baby in the last year, which made my writing on this site spotty, at best. I just read about the changes that are coming. I will continue to support this site and write (hopefully – more often!). Thanks for everything!
