The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

A better mobile site

I have trouble scheduling time off on my phone with the current mobile site, so a new one would be helpful for when I’m on the go and need to keep my streak alive.

Whoopee… I’m an egg again! The first time I ‘crashed’ i spent the next three days beating myself up for failing… each crash after came a bit easier. This time ‘round, my reaction was a shrug and the realization that I’d needed sleep more so was perfectly right in doing that instead. …WOW… who knew that a nightly brain dump had self-love as a side effect? Thanks!

I’m utilizing 750 Words to help me complete my novel. It’s been such an amazing gift for me these past few years. I hit writer’s block when a close friend suggested I try this, and I’m hooked! This website manages to perfectly remedy all brain ailments for me!
If ever I make it to the big time author spotlight thing, I promise to donate more than what I have, because I would owe it all to this site!

An iPhone/iPad app

I think that this is a great idea, however, as an android fan myself, maybe expand to that area as well.
Perhaps setting up a “LITE” version of the app for trials, and then selling it for even .99 afterwards.
You’d make profit, and people can enjoy this amazing service on the go! I know I would install it immediately!

I have been writing on 750 Words for over 4 years now. That is a lot of words! In fact, it is over 1,000,000. I was wondering how many others have crossed that marker and if there might be a badge for that in the near future.

Thanks for the encouragement and help along the way when things go wrong! It has been fun to do, and I have recommended this site to many of my writing friends.

Thanks Buster and Kellianne. Keep up the good work!

Peace & Love,
Holly M. <><

Thank you for 750words. I never thought I could write every day, now I do. I am finding that the practice of writing each day is giving me leverage for other changes in my life. The features for tracking our moods etc. are very helpful in my work with clients also. I now recommend it to my clients.
The badges appeal to the kid in me—thanks for making it fun.

The 750 Words are just what I need to get started in the morning. It is like drinking in the sunshine and the rays of light go forth onto the paper. I am hooked and do not know how I got by without it. My gratitude to you always and to the person that sent me to your site. I am now sending as many people that will listen to consider putting 750 Words into their lives.

As I wrote this morning, the little message popped up that said I had completed 750 words, but it also said that I was on a 73 day streak. It suddenly dawned on me. I am not too far away from 100 and my next badge. When I thought about 100, I thought it seemed almost like an impossible goal. It was so big. But this site automatically broke it down into smaller parts—not because I decided it that way, but just because it is the way it is. I had to decide whether or not to make a 30 day commitment. I shied away from that and yet finally decided that I was going to DO it. I knew that I was not going to allow my name on the wall of Shame, and so far, that has not happened. That negative was a motivator in some ways, but also the fact that I just had to DECIDE was there, as well. Once I decided, I did not want to break my decision. I made it through one month and was surprised at how proud I felt. So did I commit to month two? You bet! And now I am suddenly at 73 days and realizing I am not that far away from 100. How did I complete almost 100 days when the goal was so big? I didn’t look at the 100. I looked at 30 days. I suddenly look ahead 30 days and realize I am over 100. WOW. That is what I need to do with my WEIGHT!

Let it sneak up on me by making small commitments and keeping them. First make a REAL decision. Decide on something shameful if I don’t accomplish actually following my plan. Then I live with that shameful thing that I must do. But if I accomplish it, then I will feel that pride. Shame IS a motivator. In the long run, shame will not work forever, but it has its place. It was the Wall of Shame that made me want to stick with this. I did not want my name there. Now I need to use what I have learned and move from obese to skinny. :-)

Thank you, 750 Words. I don’t know how to start my day without you. It’s been a little over a month since I discovered this site and I feel I am a better writer because of it. My novel is progressing nicely and I’m almost ready to start looking for an agent. I couldn’t have done it without you.

Improve the Today page

I think you might need to reevaluate your sitemap. I have to do a bit of clicking around to find certain pages, for example finding the page where my badges are and then going back to today. More links I guess. I love the tone of your site! Keep that up.

Recurring Time Off

The ability to set a recurring day off.

For religious reasons I don’t use the computer on Saturdays, and have to schedule these days one at a time, week after week. I’d love to be able to just set Saturdays as a recurring day off.

More text analysis

my texts often get marked as “mostly affectionate”. I have a hunch that “affectionate” is the grey are into which all difficult-to-analyse-moods fall in. so I would really love to do away with the “affectionate” category and to have more text analysis to replace it with a more precise term.
