The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

A friend on Tumblr recommended 750words.com to me after I had posted a frustrated note about how undisciplined I was in my writing. She said that this site and it’s monthly challenge really helped her and she thought it would help me too. Dear heavens, she was so right! I joined at the end of December, signed up for the January challenge, and have written every single day since. Everything about this site helps me keep on track, from earning badges to reading the analysis of my writing once I’ve finished each day to keeping track of my own metadata (goals, energy, writing, mood, and pain levels). For the first time in years, I’m consistently writing each and every day and it’s not a chore. I’ve even set the bar much higher for myself and am writing around 1700 words a day as a personal challenge and to begin to prepare myself for NaNoWriMo in November. Most of my writing is currently focused on life analysis and goal setting, but I’m also planning out the novel I hope to write in upcoming months. I’ve already signed up for the February challenge and I look forward to each day’s writing now. Thank you so much for creating this wonderful site!

I love this site, and encourage everyone to at least contribute “1 cup” or $4/month to show Buster we are willing to do our part to keep this site up and running. I don’t want it to go away.

I haven’t been on 750 Words for very long, but I love it! It’s a challenge for me and helps me complete things. Sometimes I’ll have a partial idea in my head and the site has helped me work on filling in the blanks and making something that I’m happy with.

As a new yoga teacher I am always trying to help introduce my students to resources that help with emotional balance and I know from my own experience here that this site helps keep the black dog of depression at bay. The badges are so cool. Thanks Buster!

Hearing that this site might not be here anymore has got to me a little bit. First of all I want to thank Buster for the creation of this site. Second I want to thank Mario who many times has helped and answered questions for me. Would I love it if everyone on here would donate so Buster could afford to hire someone to keep the site going? Absolutely! So all you who have found this site a blessing in your life, how about a donation? I will accept whatever happens here, and I wish Buster the best on his new chapter in life. The options are still on the table. Make your voice known please. Donate any amount you feel you can and hopefully we won’t have to say goodbye to 750words.com. Thanks in advance for your generosity.

I’m closing in on a one hundred day streak and if I keep on the same pace this monthl, I’ll have over 50,000 words written. This site has become a valuable addition to my daily routine and I’d gladly pay a monthly fee to keep it going.

I’m a streaker and proud of it. As of this writing, 146 days and running hard. Who woulda thunk… somehow, in spite of my ever-present “do it later” demon, this site keeps me typing. Thanks!

Kickstarter, Indiegogo, fee-based service, incorporate as a 501©3, ask us, your loyal writers for help — whatever it takes to keep 750 words going. Buster, you have a successful and fabulous site, keep it going. (And you could have worse problems than a successful site, no?)

Hey, I’m willing to pay to keep the site up. Yes, writing has actually become a daily habit that I could probably sustain on my own, but there’s something about the group aspect and the streak-counting that helps. It’s cheaper than therapy, and sometimes just as effective!

I love 750 words! The site has saved me. Thank you. I’m just days away from a two-year streak. 750 ROCKS!

Writing every day is such a relief anyways, but the sense of reward at the end makes the experience not only satisfying, but healthily competitive too!

Hi, is it true 750 words is going away? Say it ain’t so Buster! I love the site and it has helped me so much the past year.

I’ve been using the site for the past week and I love it. It has become part of my morning ritual with an actual cup of coffee at me elbow. I find that it clears my mind, helps me to make decisions, and gives me more focus throughout the day. Thanks 750words!

I love 750 words and I would hate to see it ever go away. I would be happy to pay for the service if it came to that. 750 words helps me stay consistent with my writing and motivates me to be creative everyday.

Well, today I hit 200 days in my streak. And I’m really proud, honestly. I hope to keep writing. I think a lot of my life has changed here, and I’m excited about that. Thanks!

Pay monthly to use this great site. It means so much to me to get this support for my writing. I would hate to see this site die in February. All of us waste at least 10 dollars a month. Wouldn’t it be better to contribute it to this site.

I started (again) just before Christmas to write Morning Pages. This is part of a spiritual ‘system’ devised by Julia Cameron. Now I’ve never been a great writer as my writing is appalling and I find it very hard to read it. So along came 750 Words as if ‘heaven sent’. Now, not only can I get my Morning Pages done faster (in under half the time), but I know that should I decide to come back and read them, I will actually be able to do that easily without getting the need for an English/Hieroglyphics dictionary. :-)

750 words is probably the best way for me to clear my mind and motivate myself to write as close to every day as I can. I feel almost guilty whenever I don’t get a chance to since I’ve come back (‘til I realize that the stuff I’m doing that prevent me from writing are things that I can come write ABOUT, later!). I have tried other “write every day” sites, but this one always draws me back with it’s comforting blankness, it’s kind, quirky messages and celebrations, and of course the fantastic badges of honour. Thank you so much Buster, for making this available to me, and everyone else.

OK. It works and I finally got a big bird! Operates well despite my old PC/LT, and seems to keep pretty good statistics & indicators by which I have been scanning for improvement clues! My only ‘beef’ is that EVERYBODY in the WORLD seems to be Faster, more productive, and Happier than MY criteria show! But, their obvious YOUTH & energy gaurantees their higher output, I guess? But, I wonder how I would compare to others within my own AGE & SEX demographic statistic? Anyway, I will have a cup of Coffee for a couple more months before I draw stronger conclusions!
Thanks for Boosting me out of my lethargy, Buster!

750 words has become the best form of therapy. Better than actual therapy, actually, because I’m less constricted and constrained and censorial.

Thank you for creating such a place!

I’ve been using 750words since almost the beginning, and it’s been wonderful for my writing habits. I’ve fallen off here and there, but I’m almost to a year straight now, and my brain is the happier for it. Buster’s got my monthly support to help the site going, and I hope that if you can spare the change, you can help out, too. Thanks, everyone!

750 Words has been tremendously beneficial to me. It helps me write every day, clear out my mind, sort out my life, even create some beautiful sentences now and then. It’s also a great inspiration to see that so many people are actively using this site, that encourages me to keep going. Let’s keep this site – even if it means that it has to become a pay site. With all the chatter about 750words being in financial and organizational stress, I wanted to donate a hundred dollars to help keep it going and demonstrate my good will/utter fear that you will shut down. I could only donate $48, so I did. Er…. You might want to increase that limit, Buster.

New Feature Request Note from Dianna Goodwin on Wed, Jan 16

If this site would shut down my heart would probably break, so I am willing to pay for it.
I believe that proposing a basic version of this site for just 4$ a month would make it available for everyone. At the same time the version with additional options (that many of us already suggested here) could be available for a bigger sum for those who can and are willing to conribute more, would allow a development of this site! So it would both stay easily available and start growing.

I see a lot of good will here and I see the potential in this site so to just show my support for its growth and continuity, I am adding my cup of patronage. When we see the good things, we should be willing to support them! BTW, greetings from Poland – this site is used by people outside of US and they, like me, enjoy it!
