The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

Alternatives to paypal!

My desire to support 750words does not outwieigh my antipathy regarding Paypal. Give me a non Paypal means to pay and I’m in. Bitcoin would be my preferred option, but even Visa would work for me!

750 Words ended with my writing procrastination. Now, I have completed 12 days streak and I cannot believe. I was never able to do it before.

Thank you for the Site and thank you to those of you that have decided to become Patrons.

I started writing on 750 Words not long after I left my corporate job, in hopes of starting my own creative business. Writing’s a heavy part of my professional background, but I hadn’t done a substantial amount of it in years, and needed to jump-start my creative brain to process my ideas and get the tap flowing again. Producing some kind of output every day has done that. It’s brought back a lot of my old tools and introduced new ways of looking at things. I’m ever so fond of it.

Loving this site. After completing last month’s challenge, I immediately signed up for this one. Just the right mix of incentives and fear of punishment (Oh no! Not the Wall of Shame!) keeps me going strong. Thanks, Buster!

Congratulations to all the one month challenge winners! I absolutely love this website and tell people about it all the time. I am actually starting to consider writing a memoir of my time in Cusco Peru (the past 2 and a half years) and while I have only been writing here for 2 months it has opened me up so much and really gotten me writing about everything. I know this is going to be something I will look back upon and be happy I did. I already am!

Since I discovered this site and community, I keep being inspired. I don’t need to wait for inspiration, it comes to me as I open this site and start typing. Thank you for that amazing opportunity! I finished successfully my first one-month challenge and I’m looking forward to this one and the next! Gotta have those badges :)

I started writing on this site in July 2010, and since then I have written pretty consistently – 778,000 words – now I am on an 844 day streak! Writing has become part of my daily routine. I wish everyone here a productive 2013!

“Just write,” I was told time and time again. But I couldn’t make it work for me. Every assignment started with a painstaking attempt to edit as I wrote, which usually resulted in several botched sentences and hours wasted on an introduction.

Thank you, 750 words, for helping me get beyond that part and “just write”.

Thanks so much for this fantastic site! It really is helping me with my goal of writing every day. I’ve tried that for years but I’ve never managed it until now. The email reminders really help. Plus, stats and achievement badges are like crack for me – gotta get them all! :D Keep up the great work! (And more badges please) ;)

Improve the daily reminder email

I’d like the email to be able to be sent again if we haven’t written by another time. I get a reminder at 8am, but sometimes forget to write again till the next day (And other days I remember just fine!). If I had the ability to have another reminder email sent around 3, I would nary miss a day!

Just wanted to send a note of heartfelt thanks for this site. I just wrote for my 100th day and I have certainly reaped the benefits of this motivational opportunity for writing to clear my mind. Thanks Buster, and Happy 2013!

I have long known that I need a certain structure to keep me writing. 750Words has become that structure. I know I have to get my 750 words written before midnight every day to keep my standing so that is what I do. Those 750 words may be a blog post, a scene in my current novel, a response to a prompt, a short story, an essay or simply getting my thoughts down on paper. No matter what it is, I have written every day without fail. Somehow, this is so much more successful than just saying I am going to write.

I have been writing on 750 words for several months now and the experience has so helped me sort things out in my head. Grateful for this opportunity on a daily basis. I cannot understand why more people don’t do this; just image how splendid our world would be if we all knew how we felt about stuff!!

I started writing a novel in November via NaNoWriMo. The goal was to write 50,000 words in a month. I had never written that much before, but I was able to complete the goal! But my novel wasn’t finished, and I wanted a way to continue writing every (well, almost every) day. A NaNoWriMo team leader suggested this site, and I love it. I’ve written another 32,000 words in Dec, and signed up for the Jan. Challenge. Thanks, 750 words, for helping me become a daily writer.

750words has helped clear my mind every day for over two months. That’s no small feat — at the best of times, my mind is a cluttered mess. I obsess over things unhealthily. But 750words has helped ameliorate that, and make me a better writer at the same time.

I haven’t been a steady user of 750 Words since I discovered it in the summer of 2010, but I keep coming back because it’s the most effective tool I’ve found to clear my head.

I’m a college student set to graduate in May. Over the past four years, 750 Words has been a vital outlet for my thoughts and emotions during a time in my life that has had very little consistency or structure. It’s been nice to have one place to write down my thoughts and try to make sense of the every-changing, fast-paced, sprint-like existence that is college in the early years of the 2000s.

For any 20-something trying to figure life out and piece it all together, 750 Words is the place to do it, to stay positive, to vent, to rethink, to find new ideas, to just let your mind wonder about everything.

Monthly and Yearly Tracking

I would really love to be able to see the total words written per month and per year as historical data. So today, for example, I’d be able to see not just my total words ever but how many words I wrote in total in 2012 (giving me a number to beat for 2013) and how many words I wrote in December to update my spreadsheet with.

This could also tie in with the million words challenge. I’d love to set a goal of “I will write X number of words this year” and to be able to use 750words.com to track it.

I’ve just started using this site, and I already love it. This is my more-public way of announcing my own personal Challenge: To block out everything I want to write about in my memoir. I don’t know if I’ll be able to write every day, but in 3 months I want to have a solid outline and story arc to begin my research. Thanks 750words.com and I had NO idea I was supporting a local Seattle business! I’ll have to head down to Bedlam and see what I can see (I’m a Capitol Hill girl!)
