The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

Partner Site for Editing

What about a partner site called “750edits?” You would import (or paste) your document in there and work on it for a set number of minutes, getting you into the habit of revising in addition to writing (as this website does.)

The green boxes that link to the individual dates would be great if they had numbers below or above. Would make it a lot easier to navigate to a certain date on a mobile interface.

Additional Pages for Different Forms of Writing

I like using 750 words for my academic writing, but I would also like to use it for my personal writing (e.g., fiction, journal). It would be nice if there was a feature that allowed you to have separate pages instead of having to create separate accounts or instead of typing everything into one single interface. I know it would be difficult to make sure that the separate pages amounted to 750 words each day, but it would be nice to have separate pages (along with tags) to keep things organized and allow the writing process to continue in all its forms.

After the day is over, I noticed that the formatting goes all wonky – I lose my paragraph breaks for example. Any way to fix this would be awesome!

Man, I’ve nearly written 100,000 words on this site, and I just can’t seem to believe it! My writing has progressed by leaps and bounds on this site, and I’ve gotten several friends on it as well. If you don’t know what to write about, just delve deeper and you’ll find something!

Yearly date view, not just monthly

So right now I can view monthly “check marks” indicating the number of days I’ve written. I’d like to be able to view a chart showing 12 months, or the entire current year, to get an even “wider” view of accomplishment. Hope that makes sense!

A BLESSING FOR YOU ALL and a THANK YOU!!!
Its Easter Morning. I just completed Deepok Chopra’s 21 day meditation and I went right to my 750 words. I thought of how sad I’ve been and How blessed I felt in the moment and I just wanted to reach out into the world and hug you all. I wanted to thank you for sitting with me throughout the day and doing these 750 words as I do. I wanted to say thank you because these pages make me feel like you are all with me always. It feels so good to know I have brothers and sisters all over the world reaching out for something more. But most of all the knowing that you share my thoughts, my ideas, that we share the earth and all of its beauty is comforting in a way that is just indescribable. Whoever is reading this, know this is not an accident. I wrote this for you. I wrote this because you needed to see these words I needed to be the one to give them to you becasue every time I need a little love someone out there sends them my way. I want to tell you that no matter where you are in your life, You are being held up by a light, a force, whatever you name it, it is there. We are all a part of it no matter what color, Sex or religion. I want you to know that when I am scared I forget sometimes and that I hope you would reach out just as I am doing now and remind me. It is Easter and if nothing else, be blessed that a huge number of people in the world are praying and blessing the air and everything in the Universe. You are a part of that prayer! I am a part of that prayer. I know that now. For today I am going to accept that everything I need is waiting for me to accept it because it already IS! These pages are my love, my heart, my thoughts of all that is good coming your way. May today be an amazing day for you, my friend and may everyday GET BETTER!!! Your sister!

Word analysis

Hello,

I think this has been on the site before and now I can’t find it. Where was the analysis that compared my writing to the rest of the 750 a word/ day writers? I’d like to use it again.

Thank you guys for 750words! It keeps me motivated through 6 short stories (that become my first self-published book), NaNoWriMo and now – Camp NaNo. It keeps me going, writing my own stories and articles. And sometimes it’s just my diary. But it is always the best and without it I would never finished some important projects. Thanks again for motivation!

I’ve only been on this site for less than 2 weeks, but I am already finding it is becoming a very important part of my routine. It helps me organize my thoughts in the morning, it helps me vent my frustrations of the day, it helps me let go of my stresses in the evening. No matter when I sign on, or how many times i chose to come back through out the day, it is some where I can dump all the crap that is circling around in my brain. Its so much better than keeping it in there or dumping it on a friend.

It also helps me on the positive days. I can write about goals, I can journal the good points, I can weigh the pros and cons of a situation.

Unlike a simple journal, this one analyzes me when its all done. I’m have to laugh on the days when “don’t” “won’t” or “can’t” are the biggest words on my frequent words list. Sometimes it points out the obvious to me that i was unaware of until it was brought to my attention. Its truly an awesome form of therapy and I foresee using this site for years to come!

Thank you Buster and Kelliann. Thank you for giving me a place to leave my thoughts and words. When the world is too hard, when my thoughts are scattered, when I want to put down the busy-ness of the day and go to sleep – there is 750 words. Just waiting for me to sort things into sentences and leave the cares of the day neatly behind. How perfect is that? Well done to you both!

No Zero Days. It’s the idea that if you have a goal, then you should do something that contributes to your goal every single day. No exceptions.

750words has been the backbone of this philosophy for me. For 122 days in a row now, and counting, I have written every single day—not just on this site, where I do my brainstorming, journaling, and self-motivation, but also on my novel. I have written more than 80,000 words on it so far, and still going strong.

Consistent results over the course of many days is the key to success, not a single really good day. Thanks go to Buster and Kellianne for making it so easy, and so much fun, to make writing a lifestyle and not just a hobby!

Awed and inspired by those going past the million word mark, those writing for many years. I am either at day 715 or 1080 — a power failure put a bump in the official day count — and love seeing posts who have been here for years and are still writing.

I’d really like if there was a little chime when I reach 750 words. Think the ‘Correct’ sounds on Duolingo or KhanAcademy exercises! Thank you, by the way, for this site. It’s mega-wonderful.

It was five years ago (tomorrow) that I started this unbroken chain of writing. Tomorrow, I will begin year six. I don’t know that I have ever done anything (anything!) as regularly as my writing on this web site (personal grooming aside…sort of). I’ve had an interesting relationship with this rock as I push it – every day – up the hill. Some days, I’m running at full gallop at it, and find my self surprisingly not winded when it’s atop this hill , and other days, every inch of the push is my own private hell. And, that’s the beauty of this site, isn’t it? To know that it’s here, to know that it’s waiting for me to deal with the flow and the blocks, the creative and the mundane, It’s a barrier and it’s a door and for that I’m grateful and happy.

Indexing and tagging

It would be helpful if it were possible to add titles and tags after editing for the day has been closed. Being able to search and browse through previous entries would make it easier to use 750words as a reservoir and archive and not just a “word dump”. It would come closer to how I use my pen&paper writing journals. Thanks for considering and keep up the great work! (PS: Also, an anroid app would be neat)

A snafu with Paypal late last night resulted in my not being able to log in to write at all. Kellianne quickly remedied the situation today, and I was very pleasantly surprised this evening, after a really tough workday, to find that I was back up and able to type away at my nightly post.

I knew I loved 750 Words… I was still surprised at how lost I’d felt when I couldn’t submit my post for the night and would loose my streak!
I’m a happy camper now, thank you!!!

750 words is worth a thousand pictures.

I am a writer. I too would like to post a picture now and again, but that is not why i am here. i am a writer. I write. And I thank B & K for setting this up and encouraging myself and others to do so. Happy, sad, melancholy, joyous, grieving, celebrating, thrilled, bored, it all gets recorded and for that, I am grateful.

Thank you as well to all of you around the world who sit down beside me each day and write your story. Bless us all on our journeys.

Annual Memberships

I’d really prefer to pay for my membership annually. Optimally, that would come with a minor discount (say $55 for one year). It’s easier for me to track that than monthly.

I think that the monthly option should remain, for those people who cannot afford to do a full year membership or just want to try it out.
