The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

Something akin to iaWriter (simple text editor with basic navigation and a customized keyboard) would be fabulous.

A better mobile site

I refer back to previous days’ writings when I work on my desktop. On mobile, I loose time trying to find where to even find the links just about every time (still haven’t found it).

One of my New Year’s resolutions for 2014 was to write daily. I’m happy to report that I only missed a total of three days in 2014. I’m currently on a 250-day writing streak, and it’s become kind of addictive.

I use my daily writing as a way to think out loud, troubleshooting problems, thoughts, and anxieties I have. It gives me something to look forward to in the morning and actually puts me in a really good mood.

I no longer own a laptop or desktop and do all my 750words writing on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 with a Bluetooth keyboard. It would be nice to have an easier to use and easier to navigate mobile site or Android app.

I considered stopping for awhile since I have been writing more or less daily for 3 1/2 years on this site and was feeling a tad stale. I took two months off and since I have been back, I feel newly inspired to a) keep journaling and 2) use this as a spring board for more serious play. Thanks for continuing to exist lo these many years.

I started using this wonderful site for over 3 years ago on and off but I made a commitment exactly one year ago to go on an uninterrupted streak of 365 days! I made it!! Little did I know how this would affect my life since this became a “have to” ritual of inspiration every morning no matter what. Coming from being free spirited and undisciplined, I feel (thanks to 750 words) more grounded and ready to challenge my free spirit to conquer other good habits to become a better version of myself. I am recommending this site to everyone I belief would benefit from this awesome habit! Thanks for this site and keep up the good job!!

For me, writing every day with 750words is all about focus. I want to write, but when I sit down to write, procrastination creeps in. That is when I can use the timer part of 750words to keep myself on track. After a bit of effort, the words start flowing. I feel a sense of accomplishment and that inspires more writing. 750words is like a coach and a muse. Thank you!

Member since 2011, but only recently have begun to string x’s together into long rows. Writing every day instead of every now and then is making me feel more sane and able every day. Not that I’m insane, I just love to write. This site really helps me stick with it.

Custom word goals.

When I started to make a habit of writing everyday through this site, I find that I usually stop when the notification that I’ve achieved the 750 word goal. Before 750words, I used another writing app for my journal/free writing but I couldn’t stick to a routine. However, I was able to challenge myself then to write up to 1000-3000 words and sometimes even more. It would be awesome I think, to have this feature.

Custom additional word goals per day.

I’ve found that after being on the site for over two years, I’ve conditioned myself to ONLY write about 750 words at a stretch. I’d like to be able to ratchet up the word count for a personal goal, over and above the “standard” goal.

30 days ago I proposed a goal for myself: to write every day for 66 days (according to new research, the amount of repeated activity to form a habit). Reading a blog post on Medium, I learned about 750 Words. This site has been instrumental to my goal’s success thus far. 36 or 27,000 words to go—and then, of course, beyond. Thanks Buster and Kellianne for creating and maintaining 750 Words.

I found 750 words after blowing my New Years Resolution to write every day. On the 18th of January I had made it 6 times, blown it 12. Since that day, i’ve written 22 days straight. A total game changer. Not sure why this has changed my level of discipline, but it has. Maybe I’ll get that book written after all!

When I first found this site, I really didn’t know what I was going to use it for. I liked the idea, but just couldn’t figure out where to fit it into my daily writing. Since starting here those (getting close to!) 700 days or so ago, it’s been a great braindump and personal therapy session on the daily. It fulfills a sort of diary space that other things technically could have, but in practice didn’t. So hooray for that.

I just finished my 100th entry on 750 words and I couldn’t be happier about it! I’ve been writing on this site for about four years now. Before october of last year, it was very on and off. I could go months without writing a word, though every time I started up again I would always think that that was it, I was going to make it a month. That was my goal, a month, but I just finished 100 days! The secret is habit of course. If you can do this for about a month and a half, every day, it will never be hard for you again. It just becomes this automatic part of your day, just like brushing your teeth (but 100x better).

It’s helped me blast through some tough times and it’s made the good times even better. This habit has made me more self-aware, organized and confident with my writing. But most of all it’s just a part of my day that I really look forward to, it’s relaxing and fun.

Thank you 750 Words!

Today I’m celebrating a 750 day streak. Writing here is the only practice I’ve been able to sustain for such a long period of time and I love it. I’m grateful to Buster and Kellianne for facilitating this wonderful community of writers. And I’m really looking forward to my flying squirrel soon!

Improve the daily reminder email

The daily reminder email is so boring. No offense to them, but I really don’t care to see the list of people in the running for the monthly challenge or other people who wrote for the day. At least, not in my daily reminder email. Just make it an impactful and creative email informing us, “Hey, go write!” Not a lot of text, not a lot of informational stuff… just the basics, just what we need to see.

750words is a place for us to share our innermost thoughts privately and confidentially. Having a secure server would increase the amount of trust we’d have that this information would be kept safe for us. I hope this gets implemented at some point!

I always thought I would get some writing done some day, but of course never did anything about it. I love the discipline that the streak instills, and the email ensures I don’t forget even though I have work and a young family. 60,000 words so far and plenty to come. Thanks heaps

Please add even more fonts!

I’m a visual person and I love switching my writing up with different typefaces, depending on my mood. I usually get tired of the font I’m using after a month or so and change it. I’m almost on a 500 day streak, and it would be fun to see my writing in even more styles.
