The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our son Niko, and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

750 words had helped me make some headway on a major writing project—I have around 44,000 words after two months of using this site (including completing the June Challenge), but now I need to take a break from generating and start revising. I have found it helpful to produce the writing in a neutral space before dumping it into another document, where it then can be revised and reorganized. I also really love the stats, because it often helps me figure out whether I am on the right track in terms of tone and other concerns.

750 words is harder to do every day than going to the gym. Just like the gym you always feel so much better after you go. 750words has helped me organize my thoughts on my business and my relationship and I think it is an extremely valuable exercise / service.

HUZZAH! After almost exactly 5 years of attempting the 750 words challenge (on and off), I have completed it in June 2016!

I’d like to thank Buster for making this site and Habitica for providing the proper motivation to actually getting it done…. next step, Phoenix Badge!

I love 750 words even though I have yet to make it through a complete month’s challenge. So today I start again. This time maybe I’ll make it. It all depends on how well I can weather the internal storms of family crisis and fears. Anyway, I love the badges I’ve gotten and hope to continue these Morning Pages day after day and year after year.

I think an app would help me remember whenever I sign up for a monthly challenge. Also it might be a bit more user friendly then trying to navigate the mobile website

Dear 750words,
How can I thank you for being here when I need you the most to journal the events of my life that I am currently going through? When pen and paper just seemed like something that is too hard I thank you for being available.
Helping aging parents to deal with mental health issues and dementia is not for the faint of heart. When my days seemed overwhelming and all just too much for me to handle, I found respite in my keyboard and a place to share my soul.
Thank you again for being something easy for me to hold on to.

Dear 750words,
It was such a refreshing joy to find a place to simply write as well as challenge myself. Though lately I haven’t been able to login as much as I’d have liked, I always enjoyed being a quiet part of this amazing community. My departure, hopefully, will be temporary as I focus on some personal projects. It’s great knowing this site, and all the encouragement I’ve recieved, will still be waiting when I return. Thank you so much for making such a comfortable space to share my thoughts with the world of me; a place to push myself. It has been my steady reminder that a little everyday can keep that writing spark fresh and alive, and within reach.
Sincere and Somber,
Ken

Remember When

Basically in 750words we write stuff and sometimes we don’t get to reread them. This feature “Remember When” acts as a flashback. Each day it shows you one random post you wrote and so you get to probably get a good laugh out of it or maybe it was a sad story but you’re not sad anymore and you realize how much stronger it has made you and how awesome you really are.

i’m not sure about cause and effect here, but i’ve written every day for the past seven days and right there in the middle of those days, i stood up to TWO abusive friends and my EX. and i mean in big ways, too. i just let them have it when they ran their crap on me. i feel strangely calm and centered. taking care of myself. it feels like there is a connection between writing down what is rattling around in my brain every day and taking affirmative action for myself. i feel, like, clearer. i need to read posts to see if others experience this. yay. i like feeling this way. i have huge decisions to make. want to make them in a clear-headed way.

Today I will have five hundred days in a row of writing, and I couldn’t be more excited. It shows that I have made a commitment and lived up to it, even if only to be sure and schedule a day off here and there. And this daily writing has been so helpful as I struggle with my anxiety, depression, and other issues. It is a safe place, an outlet, and usually fun. Even nights when I am sure I have nothing to say, I manage to write at least seven hundred and fifty words. And I am so grateful to have this, every single day!

Back in October 2015, I started writing on 750Words.com. For two weeks, I kept pushing myself, setting goals, planning for the future…

By mid-October, through this site, I had completely overcome depression. In fact, at the time, I considered the present moment to be among the Top 3 Moments of My Life. I call this period the ‘Golden October Days’. Though I eventually stumbled (through no fault of the site), I hope to reclaim these days and try again.

750 Words has changed me for the good. I now can process issues in my life easier, but just writing aimlessly. I thought it was stupid at first, but the badges enticed me to continue. Now I have a long streak going towards 100. I have found that I am more relaxed in general, the things that were bothering me are released just from writing about them. I am actually enjoying life more from this. I never would have believed it if someone told me that when I started. Keep doing it, because it is a good habit to get into. Thank you for having this site!

If I start typing at 11: 45pm and write beyond 12:00am, why am I not given credit for writing the previous day? Shit….fuck!

Using 750 Words has helped me make writing a habit, which has in turn made me feel more grounded. I’ve never been consistent with my journal writing, and this is the first time I’ve ever kept a journal regularly. I’ve been looking for quite some time for a website or app that would help me track my mood, themes, frequently used words, and other metadata. Really, this website has been a huge boon in my life.

I’ve reached the Space Bird badge last week.
It’s been a long 500-day journey and I’m very thankful to creators of this site for letting me have this thrilling experience.
Once I was on the verge of failing. I was on the business trip and my notebook didn’t want to get online so to keep the streak I typed the daily word quota through my mobile only to find out the next morning that it didn’t count…
To say that I was disappointed is to say nothing.
I kept on writing turning into an egg.
And in the meantme I’ve humbly asked for a pardon from the tech support. And before I turned into a penguin I’ve received the kind note from Kellianne that notified me that I’ve been reinstituted as a Pegasus and that it’s quite an often complaint about attempts to do it through mobile phones… It was such a relief. And I can’t feel more thankful than I was – because it’d be very hard somehow to start all over again… I know I’d do that anyways but it’d be such a drawback…

Right now – i’m in the new trip to get that new badge of Flying Squirrel. And it’s going to be a tough journey – but I’m prepared. The habit of daily writing is so strongly ingrained in my brain – that I don’t worry at all that I won’t reach that ultimate target.

In the process of journey – I find a lot of positive changes in me. I am less worried about things – once they’ve written out you start seeing them from a different angle and you find that most of the worries are silly. I feel that I have a better control of my thoughts – I haven’t reached the state of enlightenment yet – but I feel that the firm grisp of incessant thinking has somewhat relaxed and mostly because of the meditation I practice while typing 750 words daily.

I also praise myself on facebook – doing screenshots and bragging about the new badge – but it has some side effect. People say that they get inspired by my example and they want to write more as well. So, it’s a ripple effect that has its positivity.

Once again – thanks to Buster and Kellianne for this wonderful space. I’m pretty sure that without this great resource my life would be much more boring…

More text analysis

It’d be great if you could introduce some text analysis in other languages as well.
I type in Russian from time to time – and it leaves me with a blank stat page.
Adding Russian – for example – will also win the hearts of new audience – if growth is something you aim for with this great site.
But frankly – i’m happy with how things are here.
Please keep the great job you’re doing.
You’re an inspiration!
