The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our son Niko, and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

It would work like word or any other wordprocessor, or better yet, it could be invoked after writing by allowing the writer to clean up after braindumping, not while typing.

I’ve been using 750words.com to help me build the backstory of my next novel, to write scenes and to generally brainstorm what needs to happen next without worrying about making it all fit together. The more I can just braindump about the characters, the better the story fits together. This has worked better for me than any other method I have used, and the text files let me download and revise as necessary.

I love this site.

I’ve signed up for so many of these daily writing things (like NanoWrimo) but for some reason I’ve stuck with 750words! I love the fun of it all, and the utter privacy. I love you guys!

I had a 170-day streak, but then totally forgot to do my words on Dec. 18. I started again and now I’m back to five days in a row. The reason I forgot was because my mother, who has been ill for most of this year, is in the hospital again. I live two hours away from her and I decided to leave work to come home early for the holidays and talk to doctors, be able to visit her, etc. We just found out that she will have to spend Christmas in the hospital. My mother loves Christmas and she is very discouraged at this news. It’s a tough time for my family and, as always, I am glad I have this place, 750words, to visit at the end of each day. Wishing all who write here a happy holiday and a great new year.

WOW I just noticed that I got a 500,000 words badge. I did not even know there was such a badge, and I was not aware of how close I was to that milestone. I’ve been going through a hard time lately and getting that badge really brightened my spirits. 750 Words has really come to mean a lot to me!

I started using 750words this month to log goals and gratitude and get warmed up for my writing – and lately, some actual productive writing happens on here too. 750words, you’re helping me identify as a writer. Thank you!

Badge above Space Bird , 1000 days?

Ive noticed that there are quite a few space birds that have surpassed 1000 days of writing. Thats about 3 years of writing everyday. I really feel that people that have done this should be recognised with a different badge.

How about a three months in a row badge? a +1000 words for several days in a row badge?

After getting past that mental block of “that’s a lot of words”, I’ve managed to bang out 750 words two days in a row in roughly 15 minutes each. They were meaningful words nonetheless. Thank you. Stay on the boat people, 750words is beautiful

I know I’m not alone in this… 750words.com has changed my life. Thank you, Buster! I needed the discipline, motivation and frankly the privacy. My previous morning pages were violated twice, the first time leading promptly to my divorce. So, yeah, privacy is pretty huge to me. Wish I would have known about these earlier but that’s ok. Life is a journey. To my fellow writers, I salute you. Keep going, keep purging and be yourself at any cost. Namaste.

I love this site! This is so addictive. I tried to write on mircosoft word after my free trial expired, but that feels so lame and un-inspiring now. I am so excited to use this regularly. It helps me to organize my yoga teaching theme notes and to get out so much stuff in my head that I had no idea was even there. Thank you!

Thank you for creating this site and thank you to all the writers who keep it going by participating. I signed up last summer when I finished my degree, and then I wrote some, but got off track over the summer and then started working on a second degree, where I have been writing a lot. But this little idea, this 750 words is really cool. It reminds me of what Julia Cameron recommends for morning pages, in her book The Artist’s Way. So I just wanted to say kudos to everyone and I am sharing this site. It was also recommended recently by one of my professors in the English program. (I am typing on my iPad and it is giving me Trouble at the moment with its internal spell check, which keeps changing words, resulting in some rather humorous statements.)
