The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

It’s a daily challenge to be here and write. I never know what to say. And I always fill it up. the funnest part is looking at the metadata. As I type, I really don’t think about my thinking. The summary is awesome. My favorite part for sure.

I’ve been doing morning pages since the 80’s and it’s always off and on. I’m so grateful to my mother for getting me to take typing lessons in Junior High so when I started writing three pages with a keyboard it didn’t detract from my process. This site was a treat to discover and in the early days, glitches would sometimes cause problems, but when I wrote longhand sometimes I’d lose an entire book and that would really throw me off. I worked on a movie with Mark Harmon and he gave all the crew backpacks which was great, except the top was a loose fitting strap down affair and my notebook flew out while I was running for the bus once. I believe it rained for days afterwards and retracing my steps did not turn up the record of all my ideas, doodles…etc. Hey, there’s an idea. A function to allow doodling on the page along with the writing. Then it would be much like the long hand process. I love all the restrictions on this site. I also love the freedom and the information it provides. My father recently died and looking at my stats not surprisingly my outlook has been negative and I have been thinking about death. Knowing that is useful when I shift from doing my purge of words to dealing with others. Thank you 750 words. When I started, paying for anything was difficult. I had been gifted old computers from friends who had money, and my access to the internet was something I could barely cover. So, today, here’s to you and more to come.

These days it’s a bit hard to keep my head above the water. Starting a new business is never easy. My morning writing habit is an anchor in my life for more than 400 days now. When I try to imagine my life without writing every day, I get scared, and block this notion completely.

New Streak Badge

We get a badge for completing one monthly challenge. How about a badge for completing a streak of 10 monthly challenges in a row? It’s a badge that’s as achievable as the Pegasus (10 months < 365 days) and encourages those working to earn the Turquoise Horse to continue entering the monthly challenges.

Secure server, please

I’d be willing to pay a few more bucks a month for a secure server, plus any other security features that seem reasonable, apart from a password. I’d really like to continue using this site as a place where I don’t have to self-censor on the off chance of its being hacked. Thanks!

I am almost to 1000 days and I have been working towards this for so long and will feel so sad when I have no more badges to work towards. :( :( :(

A rose of a different hue. . .

The daily rose for completing the writing on time. . .any chance it can switch colors depending on how often you write, time of month, season, etc? Love the pic, would just love to see variety or strive to achieve a ‘silver rose’ or a golden one at the end of every month.

Regardless, awesome site, fantastic creators, and a much needed outlet for my creative spark. I am grateful!

Amazingly, I’ve just finished writing on my 1400th day on 750 Words. Today the word count was 2220. I cannot express how much of a treasured activity the reporting out at the end of my day has become. I am eternally grateful to Buster and Kellianne for this site—and to all of you anonymous souls who write along side me here. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Peace and blessings.

Double Spacing

Being able to double space entires would encourage me to rewrite or add to my writing as the day goes on.

Improve the writing page

I would love to have my entries double spaced. Or at least have the choice to double space it. Double spacing would encourage me to rewrite my entries. Now I just write and run and assume that if what i wrote was important i would remember it. Double spacing makes it easier to rewrite or simply add things as the day goes on.

750 words is a great place for me to journal, brainstorm, and bring clarity to thoughts and ideas. I am so thankful I found this site! Without 750 words I would not be writing nearly as consistently as I am today. Definitely worth $5 a month!

Hiatus / Time Off

Allow users to schedule time off while retaining their streak – no days would be added to the streak but no days would be missed either. Especially good for people who travel, medical/family emergencies, mental health, etc.

am not sure about how to schedule time off? am so near five hundred days would hate to have to go back to zero if I miss a day, I may not be able to get logged in the 22nd of November but will be back on the 23rd so wondering if it would be okay if I missed a day but still got the run of days, maybe I shouldn’t worry about it! but it would have been nice to get to five hundred! thanks folks :)

Improve the homepage

The GUI is very basic on this website. It would be nice if it looked better, brighter and was easier to navigate. I don’t like having to input HTML to change the color of my journal pages. It’s truly not easy to figure out this website.

My book of poems, PINK MATTRESS, is for sale on Amazon. It was published by New York Quarterly press.
I am damn proud of it. I hope at least a few of the writers on 750 Words, would buy a copy. Without 750 Words I would not have had the free-space to explore my mind and find my poems. Thank You Buster and Kellianne.
