The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

It’s been almost 11 years since I’ve first discovered this place. Thanks for helping me keep tracking of my writing. Even when I’ve failed my writing goals, it’s good to know this place is always here.

An iPhone/iPad app

I am putting all my available cups for an iphone app. I hope it comes out soon for the ease of journaling – a safe place to jot down thoughts and memories. I wish it happens in the coming year. fingers crossed

Having a mobile app for this site will make it easier for me to write for the day when I don’t have access to my laptop, specifically when traveling and I can’t bring my laptop along.

Today marks the completion of 1000 consecutive days of writing. I am grateful for the daily habit that 750words has given me to be able to BRAIN DUMP whatever is on my mind and get my thoughts and plans of action down for me to get organised. The daily habit has transformed my life in so many ways – work, home, exercise, eating – all of which benefit from this daily habit – Thank You So Much

More badges for accomplishments

Earn badges AGAIN.

With the ups and downs of life, it’s easy to fall off the horse. WAY off the horse. And for getting back to 10 days in a row perhaps a year after doing it the first time, it’d be nice to get to earn those badges again instead of them being a one-time-only deal. Or if you drop off after a 30 day streak, it should feel just as good to get back to that level again down the road.

Alternatively, if duplicates of the same badge is harder for some reason, perhaps just random new badges could help:
– Hot Start: hit the 1st ten days of the month
– Final Stretch: Finish the last (5/10/whatever) days of the month
– Doble Whopper: A week of 1,500 words/day

Clean Up Metadata Tags

When figuring out how to use the metadata tags I created a few I no longer use. I really only use one consistently (LOCATION) and would love to add one more as a topic tag and remove the ones I no longer use. Just to make it easier to go back to old notes.

Search Feature

I’d love a search feature or some way to more easily return to older posts. I often write down ideas and would love to be able to search for a specific idea I’ve written about. (Overall love the simplicity and relative old schoolness of the website.)

I love 750 Words! The streak concept and badges keep me coming back and hitting my goals day after day. It’s helped me develop a more regular writing / journaling habit that I’ve wanted to develop for years, but failed to do until 750 words.

I just bought a cup of patronage so I could make this note: I am feeling very sad and quite foolish because I thought I had got my 750 words in before midnight, and I had not, it was evidently after midnight, and I am hoping very much that my currently-unbroken streak of over 500 days can be rescued.

Thank you so much Kellianne and Buster!! I hit 365 days today and I love this site so much. It’s kind of funny, but it boosts my self esteem to know that there is ONE THING that I do EVERY SINGLE DAY. My head is more clear, my professional writing is more on point, and overall I’m just super grateful for this site.

Percentages of Affect

Please add data labels to the pie charts to show exact percentages. I am experimenting with tracking anxiety levels in my writing and would prefer not to have to print out the stats and use a protractor to reconstitute numbers.

Improve the writing page

I would like to specifically request that the files you download are able to be downloaded as separate entries for each day, instead of the whole month. I like that I can see the whole month, but having the option to make them day by day can be beneficial

Entries Years Ago

I’d love it if we could see what we wrote a year ago. Like there’s a tab that will let us see what we wrote year(s) ago. It’s a great way to see where we’ve come from and how much we’ve changed, the lessons we learned, the things we said, etc.

I wanted to write and say THANK YOU for encouraging me to write EVERY DAY for 9+ years! I have decided that I will donate $5 every year for each year that I have been writing, and this is the first. I was grandfathered in and have donated before, but wanted to make this commitment.

There is nothing else in my life that I do faithfully every single day! And it is my way of connecting with Jesus and reflecting on my day. It has also helped me to work through some traumas and celebrate some joys.

I am also grateful for all the times you have rescued my streak!! I had a 445 streak that got broken when I first started because of some computer problems and it took me a year to back on track again! Since Aug 23, 2012 I have written every day. So I really freak if something happens to mess up this streak LOL! and therefore I am VERY GRATEFUL for your willingness to correct the things that happen.

I discovered 750words on May 29, 2010 and I have published 5 children’s books since then, and written more, and it would not have happened without 750words.com.

So THANK YOU Buster and Kellianne! You are a valued part of my life :)

Peace & Love,
Holly M. <><

An iPhone/iPad app

I am incredibly thankful for this site. The stream of conscious style of writing I have developed here has been a type of therapy for me, allowing me to examine my thoughts and interactions, process emotions, and gain a richer perspective and appreciation for life. I am often using the site on my phone as I write a lot on the move when I don’t have access to a laptop or desktop. The mobile version of the site can be challenging to navigate. I get the “something has gone wrong, please copy your entry before exiting to ensure your work is not lost” error message frequently and end up transferring writing back and forth between the site and my notes app. An app, especially one with the ability to save writing in it’s internal memory without internet connection to be uploaded to the site later when connection is detected, would be so cool!!

Is it possible to have all those beautiful graphs with emotions, focus on the person, etc. in other languages? I don’t write in english so I get the word cloud but none of the analysis.

Thank you so much to 750 words. I tried journalling using a note pad all of October and I really struggled. I love the badges! I am quite competitive so in the 11 days that I have doing this, I have tried to get the hamster one, the rooster one and the jaguar one. I am going for the bat one next. I took 20 mins on day 2 so I’ve not got the jaguar one yet but I will get it tomorrow. It is so easy for me to jump on every day and empty my brain out into a safe enviroment. Thank you!

t has finally arrived, my 500th day of writing and my Space Bird. I cannot describe how I feel. Pleased, proud, excited. When I found this site at the end of May 2020 we were in lockdown and I had all the time in the world to write. I thought that this might be something I would do just until life returned to ‘normal’. How wrong I was. My words have taken me through fear, anger, frustration and I’ve finally come out on the other side; I am much happier and more content than I was before I began. I shall continue writing, perhaps in a more structured form. A book? I simply wanted to save most of my cups of coffee to say thank you Buster, Kellianne and 750 Words.

Especially if I can use my Apple Pencil to handwrite — this would allow me to get my words in even on the two days a week I’m traveling/on my feet all day and not near a computer (as it is, I just accept the fact that I’ll never truly be a daily user).

300Words

I recognize that everyone uses 750Words differently. As both a creative writer and academic, I tend to feel guilty if I use up my words on random lists or journaling. Also, somedays I’ll be working on editing, grading, or sending my writing to publishers—it should be less about quantity than quality. At the same time, I want to maintain a daily practice, and 750Words is a great platform and concept. My idea is a version for fewer words, maybe a minimum of 300 for slower writers who may otherwise become overwhelmed and drop the habit entirely.
