A bit about us

750 Words is a little website that was built in 2009 to encourage a daily private journaling practice inspired by morning pages from The Artist's Way. It's somehow survived and grown through the years, and is now entering an exciting new chapter. Some things won't be changing, though, and one of those is a tendency to avoid slick marketing in favor of spilling a lot of words onto a page. It got us this far, right?

750 Words is a tiny 2-person company.

This site only exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site and the people who use it (you). Unlike lots of products and services out there, we've never raised money or hired a ton of people to build and maintain things. It's just 2 people. And sometimes this means things break and take a while to get fixed, or it takes a little longer to get a response. We rely on the kindness, generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved, and do our best to extend the same to all of you as well. People being nice on the internet? Unheard of! And yet... that's been the case here for the last 10+ years and we hope it can stay that way!

Some company history.

• For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew it became harder to support all the traffic, and the need for customer support also grew.
• On June 12th 2013, after much discussion, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts. New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 were now given a 30 day free trial, after which they were required to pay $5/month in order to keep writing. Regardless of membership, we promised that everyone would always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, for all time.
• Not much development happened between 2015 and 2020 because Kellianne and Buster had a kid, and it became that meant Buster had to get a job that paid more and had health insurance. Kellianne handled all the customer support stuff, but only urgent bugs and scaling issues could be addressed.
• Between 2021 and 2022, over 10 years after the launch of the site, Buster began working on 750 Words again. A lot had changed in the world of building websites. They decided to build an updated version of 750 Words that kept the simplicity but used more modern technologies that would allow it to keep chugging along for another 10+ years (and to allow more languages and a mobile app).
• This website is that new updated version. Over time, the older site will be replaced by this one, but there will be no hurry. Transitions are hard, and shouldn't be rushed.

We're excited for this new chapter. As always, we'll be listening to your feedback and questions and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to write their private thoughts.
