The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

As someone with BPD, OCD and a bunch of other rubbish things, this site really helps me get focused. Sometimes I write blog posts here, other times it’s just a blurb of nonsense or venting. Either way, I enjoy it!

On the occasional day when I can’t write my 750 words until later in the evening, I have a worse day than when I can get up and write before doing anything else. Thanks for improving my days.

Custom "time zones"

I’m a night person and I’ve accidentally lost my streak several times after forgetting to get my words down before midnight. I prefer to write around 4AM – but still consider those words tied to the previous date for the sake of data tracking. It would be awesome to be able to create custom “time zones” to accommodate night owl writers.

A better mobile site sot of newbie on the site. I do wish there was an app,but I like the workaround I have figured out.

I bought a Jelly COmb Bluetooth keyboard and just log into the site through my phone’s web browser, unfold the wireless keyboard, and type away on y phone. It is kind like being on the computer but instead on my phone or kindle fire. I don’t need an app When I have the.
However, I wish there was an offline feature. A friend has a farm and I cannot go out there and keep up my streak because there is no internet. If the website had an app that would upload later but know when it was typed, that would help me to keep more consistent I think.

Mobile App for 750 Words

Hello,

We are all in a world of smartphones and an app for writing our daily 750 words would make our lives so much easier. I am spending all my Cups of Patronage for this feature request. I know there are enough people out there who like me would love to have an mobile app for 750words.com.

Thanks,
Siri

A friend in a Fb writing group posted a link to this website, and I signed up for the April Challenge. Sadly I did not complete the challenge, missing day 24 and a couple more after I failed. But I was so encouraged by lasting as long as I did that I signed up for the May challenge! And this is my cup of penance that I promised if I failed the April one. But it’s really a ginormous cup of gratitude!

This site has helped me so much in my recovery from a stroke that left me with a diminished ability to type and to concentrate. I have seen my typing speed increase a little over the past two months I have been writing, and I am now thinking more critically about paragraph structure, developing better narratives, and even writing for fun, rather than just for occupational therapy. The stats help me stay motivated, and the badges are fun to earn. One thing that the world often forgets is that small things can be hard after a disability, and having attainable rewards really helps. 750 words is great!

In almost eight years, I have written over 2 million words on 750 Words. I’ve been off again, on again, far too often, but now I have another streak of over a year going, and I feel sometimes like 750 is the best part of my day. I write at night, so these are not my “morning pages,” and along with brainstorming for stories and poems I also chronicle my day or bitch about my life. 750 is the catch-all for my thoughts, and sometimes the real reason I keep up on my other writing. It’s great to have the goal of keeping my streak to push me up from my comfortable seat in front of the TV and move to the (less comfortable—I need a new chair) seat in front of my computer. But 750 usually starts my writing time, and is the best warmup I’ve ever found.

It helps me motivate myself to write each and everyday whenever possible. It is the best thing for me. I write a short story or sometimes I continue to write a larger story with over 5,000 words. It’s all about fun.

This sanctuary. This Safe House of Writing. It keeps expanding. It’s a vast space of quietude & freedom. When I write here, I am free here. I let go. I rest easy. No judgment. I enter this space & leave my own judgments behind. And then when I step out, I am lighter, fresher, happy. Unburdened. Writing here every day has helped me connect to myself. I am stronger! I am learning about my spirit, my courage. I have it in me. Thank you, 750 Words Team, for holding this space for us all. What a gift.

I am most grateful for 750words.com as a place to give myself mental peace and clarity. I pair it with a daily meditation and creative practice. The process of writing every day has taught me how well I manage (or mismanage) my time each day, how well that mismanaged time is aligned with my values, and how I can find just about any excuse to not write (usually: too tired) the later in the day it gets. I feel far more at ease once I’ve unloaded at least 750 words here. It feels great to be a part of a community of writers, regardless of what brings us to the page.

Sometimes this site annoys me. Not the site itself, but the thought that I still have to write. All 750 words or just 200 more, doesn’t matter, I just lose motivation. Although through this site I have learned that sometimes it is really easy to write 750 words. And that I can absolutly do it.
I prefer to write (fan-)fiction on here because writing a story makes me feel more accomplished. But at times I just switch into a diary mode. Often it’s because it fills the words faster to just write about my day. Other times I use it to process really important things that happened. And right now I’ve written almost 880 000 words and my streak is 600 days strong. I’ve started 1035 days and only once forgot to upload and write the last remaining words.
And although I tell myself that I want to write fiction on here and that that is better, today as I revisited some old entries I’m equally if not more grateful for the ‘diary’ entries I’ve written. Inbetween days my soul is laid bare here and integrated into the fiction parts. Being able to revisit the emotions and reactions I had is great and really helpful.
Apart from that, I love everything else too.
Before I started here, I wrote maybe 5 pages every six months. Maybe a bit more. Now I’m doing this every day, which would have been impossible to imagine just a few years ago.
My word record is not the highest, because I get distracted easily so short passages are just perfect for me and I realized that here.
Writing has become a habit. It is as simple as that. And as astounding.
But enough of my rambling, I just wanted to say how grateful I’m for this site.
I knew that, but today I really realized its importance so it was time to put it into words.

This has been probably one of the best things to ever happen to me. 750 Words has been a wonderful way to get me into the habit of writing daily. Even though sometimes the words are hard to come by, I never want to miss a day of writing now. It’s a wonderful way to meditate and get all the thoughts out of my head. Everyone should use this site!

Today I achieved my badge for writing 365 days in a row. I’m staggered and delighted in equal measure as when I started using 750words.com I found it hard to write so many words in one go. It has helped me build up my writing muscle and my flow and writing here helps to warm up each day by encouraging some mental acuity to get going for the day and to show up for writing each and every day. Onwards.

I would love to have more of a deeper analysis of what the text that we wrote that day and what it means? Also having more thorough instructions, maybe even some videos that describe the best way to complete our 750 words everyday.

A quarterly information dump

If the others are like me, they either export their daily words or print them off. I would suggest for our privacy, and to free up space, that every three months the site dumps content. You could send out an email a week before the scheduled dump so that all your members get one last chance to export or print before POOF! gone. Just a thought…

750words does for me what meditation did not. I can become one with myself, which is all my joy, rage, fear, sorrow and disgust without judging myself harshly. To be utterly myself without telling myself I should be better, wiser or more loving, is the epitome of freedom. I live by one simple rule: I know all that I feel and I do what is morally right. Or more simply: I act right and feel aII I feel.

Badge of Mine

In this particular page https://750words.com/badges, we can see all kinds of badges available, alongside with the number of people who has been honored with each badge.

I think it would be more motivating for us to write if we can know which badges that has been acquired, and which ones still more to go.

This one is easier for people: “I don’t have this NaNoWriMo badge yet, I will write this November to get this one!”

This one is more difficult to do: “I think I don’t have this Flying Squirrel badge yet, or have I? Let’s open my badges list, and see if this badge is there or not.”

I am a current paying member but can't access my page -- PLEASE HELP! I don't want my writing streak to be ruined!! :-(

Hello! I am a long-time paying member, subscribing for my daily pages. I have 10 hours to complete my pages for today but I continue to get a message that I need to become a paying member, even though my payments are current and up-to-date. Please help! I hope the glitch in the website doesn’t ruin my writing streak… TIA!

UPDATE: Since my last subscription payment was made on Feb 28, I thought that perhaps since today is Mar 29, the system marked my account as lapsed, and that maybe if I cancelled my subscription and resubscribed, that would fix the problem. But it didn’t. I just made another membership payment and I still get the message that my free trial is over and I need to become a member — but I’ve been a paying member for OVER 3 YEARS!!!!! This is very frustrating.
