The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

Over the past 8 or 9 years, I’ve become passionate about NaNoWriMo for the writing discipline it gives me during November. But I also ran out of steam in December…
Last year, I was introduced to 750words.com, and although I didn’t manage to write every day in December and January, I’m so far acing February’s challenge and I’m loving the discipline that writing my 750 words brings to my paid writing work as well as my personal writing.
So I wrote a brief love note to / review of 750words.com yesterday (Valentine’s Day): http://sharp-words.co.uk/personal/2011/02/750-words-to-get-me-going/

I really enjoy 750 words! It clears my mind, let’s me express myself and ramble. I am so glad I found this site. :0

Today's writers - nearest first

It would be great if we could apply a geolocation filter to show today’s writers in order of physical distance – this could encourage new real world friendships, collaboration, even boost the sales at our local coffee shops!

Secure server for writing

After reading about a customer who lost his Flickr content, and having an experience myself this month losing my work on Popplet.com, I’m desiring some redundancies with 750words to back up my work and make me sleep easier. What about automated secure email backups? The content could be zipped and password protected. Or sync with Google Docs?

I have grown to depend on 750words.com. It’s part of the routine, even when the routine sometimes means writing with an hour left in the day, or within an hour of waking. I have killed time waiting for meetings by dumping my thoughts into 750words. I have learned to go here when my brain hurts. I feel like I can write with abandon here, and it’s impacting my writing elsewhere. FLOW HAPPENS and that’s what Julia Cameron intended and Buster made accessible. Thanks to both of you, but, really, thanks to you Buster (Julia doesn’t respond to my emails).

I used to journal in my moleskine, but somedays I’d forget it at home or not have enough time to scribble something down , but with this site it’s so easy to just jump on while I’m doing something else and finish my post for the day.

By writing here, its helped me to figure out some things on my own without having to talk to someone else about it which is great when it deals with personal issues.

I’ve told everyone I know about this site, since I believe its such an awesome tool to help yourself with.

Was waiting to earn my first badge to become a patron, but heck, three smackers is cheap for such a wonderful site and experience. Thanks, Buster! Also, just visited the 826 Seattle site, great stuff. I attended an 826 Chicago event a couple years ago, this whole endeavor is so worthwhile and rewarding for all involved. Gotta double down, every little bit helps.

Preplanned writing holiday

I would like the facility to take a holiday from 750words.com without spoiling my streak.

Obviously this would have to be “booked” several days in advance to prevent people just hitting the holiday button when they forget or run out of time to write daily, but it would be useful when travelling, especially to destinations where internet access might not be as available or reliable as it is at home.

Keep up the good work!

cheers
Chris

While it may seem slightly silly, earning badges really helps my motivation. I’m already planning how I will get my writing done on a two week road trip around the country this summer! I don’t want to break my streak!

Thanks so much for this site. Since October of last year, when I first joined the site, this is the longest stretch I have gone in staying in the monthly challenge (7 days!). I vent all my worries and cares for the days, or from the day before, and it clears my mind to have a great rest of the day.

I had thought I was finished as a writer. Had completed a few NaNos, but not since 2008. Now I’m feeling the fire again, and I have Buster to thank for that. I hope this site is here for a very long, long time.

Faster servers!

The lag when trying to load the “This Month” page is just crazy. Many times it doesn’t even load. The most important page is the writing page and that rarely has any lag, which is awesome, but it would also be great if the other pages were a little snappier, too. Thanks for a great site and tool!

I’d like you to know that 750words.com has changed my life. I live with ADD and, as such, my head is normally a constant jumble of competing thoughts. Writing 750 words every day has helped me to sort out the signal from the noise and has lead me down a whole new path for my life. I am sure that as I follow my new journey my daily pages (they are seldom in the morning) will continue to help me to make improved judgements so everything will just keep on getting better. Thank you so much.

Time-zone based points table

I get really down seeing there are people all the way across the world who have not only finished today’s entry for points but also tomorrow’s! It’d be great if my daily nudge email only listed the points of people within my own time zone. I’ve heard it said that competition only motivates people if they feel they have a decent chance… maybe it’s true?

Past Entries

Perhaps this is available, but I would like to go back and see/read all my past entries. From what I can tell you can only see entries from the current month.

Thanks
