The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

A Search Bar

Some people, especially people new to 750 words, have trouble finding things around the site. A search bar at the top could allow them to search for things like “badges” or “monthly challenge”. This would help some people find the page they want without scrolling through every menu bar. Please consider this, mostly as a convenience to our new 750 worders!

An iPhone/iPad app

As the world of Apple grows and iPhones, iPads, and iTouches grow in popularity, an app for 750words would bring in so many more people that simply don’t have access to a computer everyday (for example, travelers). I strongly encourage this feature!

So so glad I found this site … and to think I cannot even remember how … thank you, Buster! You’ve no idea how many warm thoughts I send your way — every day.
Between this site and Keith’s “My Life,” I really might get somewhere this time around …

Offline Writing

I would like to request a feature that would allow for offline writing that would then sync up with the server when I am able to connect again. This would allow an unbroken streak, even when out of touch with the modern world.

It has helped a lot, I had a night a few nights back where I had so much on my mind and I needed to sleep so I could get up for work. I just could not get the relaxation to kick in and slow the thought process. I got up and signed on and just let everything that was going on in my mind out on to 750words, and it quieted allowing me to get some much needed rest. Thanks!

For someone who has struggled with the “black dog” as Churchill called it, this site helps me connect and always helps me prove to myself that I can do one meaningful thing every day. When I lose faith in myself, I write 750 words, and my motivation to do something else in my life grows. Thanks a million for this soul-saver…

Best thing to happen to my writing ever. My dissertation will actually get finished!

Don’t change anything! I love the simplicity of the site.

I only joined this community a few days ago, and I cant believe what a wonderful gem this is. It has taken my journaling experience to a whole new level. I love the whole concept! I feel as if this is one of the Internets best kept “secrets” – my opinion anyway! It is really refreshing to find such an unassuming, yet rich and rewarding site. Well done! Absolutely love it, has set me free in more ways than one.

I am amazed how much the site keeps helping me grow. I used to struggle a lot to write my words. There were a lot of days when line after line was just inner dialog about how difficult it was to think of anything to say. I still have those days but most days, I actually write about other things now and it is almost like a therapy session with myself. Just a word of encouragement to my compatriots here. It keeps changing and getting better, in my experience anyway. Thanks Buster.

I’d actually do a subscription payment for HTTPS. I know it costs money for this, and it might be more overhead than you can handle.

I’m at 127 days of writing, and the daily practice has helped me dig into some truths and get some insights. Some days, I write just so I don’t break my streak and I’ve come to realize it’s the daily “showing up” that makes the breakthroughs come. It is in consistency that my brain starts to relax and know it will get some time to let stuff out. Thanks one more time for a beautiful site that brings such happiness to the world!

It’s a long stretch between 100 days and 200 days, like trekking across the Gobi desert. A 150 badge or a “faithful slogger” badge would be so nice :-)

Buster, I still cannot thank you enough times. If I ever see you again, I’m giving you TWO hugs! Writing daily has brought me so much joy through one of the most painful and difficult periods of my life. You have smashed my writer’s block to pieces, restored my faith in myself and my abilities, and given me the precious gift of hope. This is a beautiful thing that you made and shared, and I appreciate it greatly. Keep making things that change the world. Make it a brighter place for the rest of us. The joy will keep growing, and who knows where it will end up? Thank you, thank you, thank you. My journey is only just beginning. Next, I will write a book or two. Let’s see how long I can keep that streak going! Gratefully, Jackie

Actually, I’m interested in helping out with the site. I have some CSS3, HTML5, PHP and Wordpress skills. And of course, from way back when, Lotus Domino. Ha ha ha, I don’t think you’ll be using that. Great work, btw.

I just started today and am amazed at how fast I wrote and with so little breaks. Although I didn’t read exactly what a cup of patronage gets me I like the idea that i’m buying someone a cup of coffee. I’ll just roll with that for now. Thanks

Improve the daily reminder email

Someone suggested that we have the option of a text being sent an hour or two before the day ends, just as a reminder if we haven’t written as yet. As someone who has a pretty crappy memory due to no fault of my own, I would adore such a feature!

German language would be a nice addition to the text analysis. English is not my native language, and a language selection would help me feel more at home here at 740words.com.

Writing skills will become more and more important as we move through this century. I don’t want to see it become a lost art. The ability to communicate is vital. The ability to communicate well is a blessing to both parties: the one sending out or providing information and the recipient. Skills are needed to boost confidence. Confidence is essential in developing perseverance. Perseverance demands respect. I challenge each of us to promote writing skills to the youth in our areas and to continue writing ourselves.

I love badges. Have I said how much I love badges? I do believe I have. Well. I would like badges for consecutive monthly challenge wins (different colored horses with numbers?) and for consecutive NaNoWriMo wins (matchy matchy with the Official Winner’s Badges from the OLL?) and higher than the pterodactyl badge for consecutive days written (no ideas this time, sorry). I love badges!
