The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

My husband found you and absolutely loves writing on your site :) He is consistent, and probably has a super hero badge due to him soon that you may not have even invented yet ;) As for me.. I think you may need to invent a new badge :)" the twinkle in the chicken’s eye "eg. BEFORE the egg badge.. hee hee .. oh dear ….
Maybe this is more of a suggestion then a note of inspiration ..
But seriously ….love the atmosphere you create and thank you for this wonderful portal of self examination, therapy, creativity and more :)
Live long and conquer the blank page dear fellow scribes..Thank you lovely creators and founders ..E xx

i found out about 750words about 5 months ago, and started using it that same day. I skipped one day after about 10, lost my streak, and since then haven’t missed. before my 30 free days were up i knew i would make the investment in myself to continue as a member. it’s been nothing less than life-changing. for most of my writing life, my experience has/had been that i could only write if i had something that needed saying, and then it would pour out of me, nearly complete. but there were droughts between, times when i couldn’t say a thing.

at some point in the first month, i hit the pit of despair – had convinced myself that not only was i not a writer, but also that counter to my previous belief about myself, i had nothing at all of value to say. i poured that failure-flavored venom out onto my pages that morning and fully expected never to come back. the very next day, i received inspiration for a project that fulfills something given to me to do 20 years ago, a task i had thought i was unworthy of undertaking, much less completing. It may end up being a lasting offering to my spiritual community.

750words has become an integral part of my life in such an amazing way. In this (sacred) space i feel content and confident to explore any idea that arises, capture whatever shows up, and rant away whatever is occupying my monkey mind so that i can get to the depths more easily. Of particular note for me is that during the same time period, i have also begun a deeply impactful shamanic practice, and spending the time journeying and writing as i go has made for some incredibly juicy experiences. using this site has brought me closer to fulfilling my purpose in the world, and i am so grateful for it.

I have learned that i can challenge myself to previously un-imagined feats – a 10,000 word day stands out as an instructive delirium of exploration – and that it’s worth sifting through some serious mud to find the gems that suddenly shine through. having this space has helped me become more experimental and tolerant with myself – taking chances and trying out the creation of form with words in ways that hadn’t occurred to me before. i haven’t delved into poetry, but there have been moments when i almost could. ha!

p.s. i love the badges — they kept me motivated through the early days of doubt and the doldrums of disbelief.

More badges for accomplishments

I almost didn’t sign up for the challenge this month but I’m so glad I did. Signing up for the challenge really keeps me motivated. I’m wondering if you could get a new badge for each monthly challenge you complete, or maybe “badge upgrades” for completing multiple monthly challenges. Like “3 month challenge completer,” “6 months completed,” or something like that. Thanks for listening!

I joined this site on May 21, 2013 and since then it has helped me to change my life almost entirely. At that time, I was an academic living a shadow career, as Julia Cameron would say, and since then I have thankfully — and due so much to THIS website — become a writer, comedian, and actor. I am creative BECAUSE my FIRST stop mentally and on the Internet everyday is to this amazing website which I recommend to anyone who expresses an interest in creating and really, living more meaningfully. Thank you, thank you, thank you for existing. Today is a day when there is more explicitly hope and promise in the world and thanks to this website I have had that sense even through the last administration. I appreciate you so, so much. You have changed my life. Love, Liz

Time settings.

I haven’t been able to find it yet. Maybe it already exists. I live in the Netherlands and this morning I had to wait till 9 am before I was able to write. It was nine hours earlier according to the website. So being able to have the correct time would be nice. :)

750 Words is one of the best things I’ve found for motivating me to write EVERY day. And since I’m doing NaNo this month, I’m writing my first 1670 words of the day here – I get to earn another badge!!

I’ve been writing on 750 words since I was 14. It’s amazing to be able to go back and reread that. It’s helped my self growth so much. I’ve been through a lot this past couple of years also, so to be able to go back and look at those notes has been invaluable. I hadn’t been able to become a patron until now, but I was always recommending this to people, and surprised when they said they’d never heard of the website before. Thank you for creating this place for all of us who have the privilege of using it.

I was slacking off on my words for a while, but I’m back for NaNoWriMo, because i love this as a tool for brain-dumping a very rough draft of a novel. I just wanted to say THANK YOU for the little notification that pops up when I’ve reached the suggested daily word count for NaNoWriMo! It was really fun to see this morning!

After one month of writing every day; I resolved a long-term conflict in a relationship, improved my relationship with my children, reached clarity in my next career move, and dramatically improved in writing copy for my business. After years of striving to journal every day, 750words has given me the outlet I needed to reach clarity every day, usually in about 15 minutes!

This is probably the third month in a row that I’ve failed the monthly challenge — this month on the very first day! Having my working conditions in my professorial job change to the tune of going from a 60-hour/week job to what is now 12-14 hours a day 7 days a week with zero letup (not even the occasional weekend morning or afternoon off!) has made keeping up with journaling a huge challenge. But in the midst of it all, this site remains an anchor for me, and even if I end up paying my fines every month for failing the challenge, I’ll keep doing the challenges because they’re part of what make this site so effective. Thank you 750 Words!!!

This past year plus has sucked. First I get divorced and all that goes with that (which is still mostly in the air), then the Coronavirus Pandemic hits. I am almost afraid to say that things are beginning to look up a little. I don’t want to jinx it in anyway. This is the first calendar year I have written something most months, yay 750 words for being there to let me vent, rant, rave, with no one the wiser most of the time. I am, as they say, cautiously optimistic as 2020 comes to a close. I have some plans, I have my ranting and some writing, things are looking up a bit. Cautiously Optimistic. Keep writing, y’all.

Edit old metadata

I know I’ve made spelling errors on some metadata marks in the past. It would be good to be able to go back on the metadata page and mark the incorrect ones by deleting old metadata from the page, or even better if I could move it to the correct metric. More flexibility on that page would be fun! Otherwise, this platform is so awesome and I love it. Thank you!
