The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

I missed a day last month and I am so proud of myself! I broke my shoulder too early in the morning/late at night to write 750 words that day – I was in hospital – but on every other day -I made it! It I am so thrilled that through all the pain and calamity, this was the one thing I hung on to and managed to do through hell and high water -Looking at that losers list gives me a sense of pride – only one day!! It makes me feel I can do anything – thanks to 750 words!

Monthly Statistics

Being able to track the statistics that are already shown for each day so I could track mood, frequent topics or frequently-used words would be amazing!

A 48-hour blackout has cut my first streak off. How disappointed I was when I realised I wasn’t going to get power back in time to put out some words. But at the same time, it drove a fire under me to start again once I got my power back on and it made me realise that the act of sitting down and writing not only helps me dump whatever I am feeling, and sometimes discover the true cause of a reaction or emotion, but also just helps to create that one predictable element in my day that helps to cement me in days where sometimes anything goes. Can I write words any time anywhere with a pen and paper, yes. Do I find this site, with its cute badges, auto word counter and little checkboxes more motivating? Yes.

750 words have helped me write my second book. 750 words are so doable that I found myself writing every day and not being all stressed out about it. I am pretty sure that I will finish my first draft soon and I can assure you that I will be doing it 750 words at a time. For a writer, writing every day is key, with 750 words, it’s easy.

I tried to go without 750words but nothing beats doing my brain dump here. Keep it up!

PT-BR support for Analysis chart

I think it would be interesting for me if 750words could understand portuguese to update that graphic data chart. Thanks for the great work!

Improve the writing page

I saw that someone recommended different word count goals and that’s an amazing idea because I’ve often thought the same thing while I’m writing. If I’m not done, I don’t just stop at 750, but sometimes spill over into 800 or even 1000. WIth that said, it’d be nice to set different goals higher than 750 (not lower, of course), perhaps in increments of 200 or 250 words. Thanks again for this site!

I’ve been a member of 750 Words for a few years now after learning about the benefits of writing stream of consciousness Morning Pages via Julia Cameron’s book The Artist’s Way. Having a tool that enables me to do this exercise digitally has been a game changer. I’ve been recovering from surgery for the past month and this has been an incredible routine to uphold. It has honestly made me a happier, more optimistic person and it has started a positive ripple effect of establishing other healthy habits, including meditation, exercise, learning a new language, and even the small and simple act of making my bed every morning! Thank you 750 Words!

Make the cutoff later than midnight

Would be great if I can write past midnight and still have it count for the same day. As someone who usually writes here at the end of the day, I lost my streak because I wrote an entry at like 12:05. Would be great if you can extend it until like 2 or 3 am before the date switches over.

Different word count goals

I think that it would be nice if you could choose your word count goal, instead of having a fixed number of 750 words. This would be useful for when you would like to write more than just 750 words and would help people feel greater satisfaction in doing so. I think that this could easily become a good addition to the 750 words site and hope that it is someday incorporated into this website.

Forgiveness Cup

In exchange for a cup of patronage, one day of missed writing can be erased from the record and the writing streak maintained. The option is only available one time a month, used in case of unexpected events or emergencies that disable people from being able to write even if they want to.

I just hit 250,000 words here at 750Words.com. Over the past 10 months, I’ve regularly had the opportunity (ha ha) to come to terms with the quantity and quality (or lack thereof) of the actual content I currently have within my head and soul. That’s part of the process for me, so I go with it.

I’ve created some amazing things in my life through this discipline and commitment and whatever it leads me to find out about me. Good, bad, indifferent.

As a result, I’ve developed different ways to use this writing time and space. One method is to work with and journal on affirmations. On days I do that, the after-writing analysis deems my writing to be “Self-Important.” (Really, my work with affirmations has been to battle feelings of being less worthy than others.)

Anyone else here work with affirmations and find that designation curious? Why is there not, say, a “self-flagellating” designation? I’d love to hear what others think and if anyone else works with affirmations. Cheers and Happy Writing!

I have to say that 750 Words has taken a girl who writes and turned her into a writer, by making me committed to coming in here every day and working on things that I’m writing. I haven’t been perfect, but I find that the monthly challenges have driven me that much more to work hard and keep going. I’m so grateful!
