The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

I have been a 750words.com member since before 2013, and I find it to be one of the most helpful ways to organize my thoughts, keep on keeping on, and to have a place to experiment with writing haiku.

I am thrilled to see a streak building, to collect all sorts of animal badges, and I appreciate the ability to use and track metadata. I love the nonjudgmental approach, and the knowledge that there are so many writers, worldwide, who are also logging in and working out their thoughts by word and sentence.

Thank you, Kellianne and Buster, for making this safe space, and for all your work in maintaining it.

In this crazy 2020, 750 words is the ultimate socially distanced community. We wouldn’t recognize each other in person, but there is this “knowing” when I open today’s blank page to write that others are doing the same on computers all around the world. For all of you, I hope its working…the clearing out, healing, creativity bursts, discoveries, production of words – whatever that might be. I don’t know you but I know you. Thanks to our fearless leaders for this private but positive community. Amy

I love this idea for the times I’m not at my computer.

Can we make this one very visually appealing as well/simple to use?

Android App

We need an Android app! 750 Words is AWESOME and an app would greatly increase the visibility and usefulness.

Love the simplicity of 750 words! It’s definitely like a distraction-less journal. I theoretically liked journaling but find it so much easier to type than handwrite. 750 words totally solves this for me without the distraction of having to log in to something like gmail or word. love it!

More badges for accomplishments

I love the badges. It would be nice if we could see how many times we have earned the same badge. Maybe there could be secret badges that don’t tell you how to unlock them. For example, using the word “fantastic” could unlock one. Or using 5 seasonal words could unlock a festive badge.

I started using 750 Words a few months ago and I wish I had known about it sooner. I haven’t missed a day since I started (though one day I wrote less than 750 words and my streak reset… tragedy). Some days I write in Portuguese to practice it. Most days I just write about my day or my silly hobbies. It doesn’t matter that I write drivel, and that’s what I love about it. Though I have always been an off-and-on paper journaler and I love the romantic notion of it, I have ugly handwriting, it’s hard to search for specific past entries, and it takes me so long to write basic stuff by hand. Plus I’m left handed so the ink always smudges. 750 words eliminates all those problems and I never feel like it’s a chore. Thank you so much for letting me vent and carry on about my boring life.

I’ve gone from using this site as a scratch pad, to freewriting, to composing my papers, to a diary, and all four of those things at the same time. I love trying to break my own streaks!

This has been great! No need for any format, it’s hit the pavement (or paper in this situation) and just write. Write freely! I save notes from school assignments, random thoughts, days activities, to do lists, anything and everything. I love 750 words and am grateful that it gives me freedom yet measure to know the bulk of what I am saving or journaling, sort of speak. I have nothing but great things to say about 750 words!

Oh my, how I love this online hygge haven! It is like some kind of wonderful space where only your own imagination can hold you back— or send you forward. And only time tells what that really means.

I have been on this site off and on, throughout and beyond the death of the dear friend who referred me the week prior to her murder— and all the mayhem surrounding it.

This word space allowed me to work out the trauma over three years time. Sorry, Julia, but I cannot do that on the page with a pen. I tried. The tears made awkward work of the ink, and I eventually gave up.

I gave up here, too. Time and time again. Then I came back, and tried again. Not once or twice, but about a dozen times.

I still feel like the Prodigal Daughter, come home. True. But I feel forgiven 70×7, and I feel like $5 a month to have a home here is the smallest price for a space to vent, rage, grieve, and experience your own personal do over or create a new vision.

Yes, CREATE. Because after all the rage, and grief and ugly spew I had to vent out on “The Page” (here) like sicking something up, there was, is or can be something golden to be treasured under the dirt.

What you find here, if you really dig in, might be beautiful. It might even be the real you, which is beautiful indeed.

And it might be buried here, even if you’ve failed to find it elsewhere. It might be underground, buried in a depth of words you never knew you had in you until you started.

And It might be time for you to start digging …

I love the fact that I have 38 delicious Cups of Patronage and I hate it. That means I really need to write more inspired notes, vote for more features or suggest them. Too many cups! I just finished my third straight month of writing every day (plus a few days consecutive in August contiguous to September), which means I’m on day 95 today towards, I believe, my Phoenix badge.

750words keeps me on target even if I don’t feel like writing today because I’m tired, a frog just hopped into my writing nook, I’m scared of the dark, Zombies want my typewriter (not really, they want my Macbook Pro), and a million other reasons I could find not to write. I’m stuck on writing. I’ve written nearly a million words (30,000 more to go) since August 2018, and I took a lot of time off. I can never write a million words except that in about 30 days, possibly less if I hustle and have something engaging to write, I will have pass 1M words. Egads! I can ever write a million words!!

Thanks to the 750words.com team for just making an awesome platform on which I have penned three books and two partial books. I never thought it possible that I could write so much but then again I never thought I would find such a nice community in 750words.com Love this platform and thank all of you for helping me meet my goals.

Thanks so much for this site. I’ve been writing since June 2012, with 8 NaNoMo’s under my belt. This year I went through a lot old entries trying to sort out a long-standing story in my life. Whew. It was all there—so much to read and process. I don’t write consistently except in November, but your site has helped me have a safe place to vent and ponder. Thank you.
