The Good Patrons of 750 Words

A Note of Inspiration from Geof Ellingham

So, that’s how it happens. I left my 750 words half finished yesterday to go out Xmas shopping, and then there were mince pies, and then there was mulled wine, and then their was a movie, and then home for a little TV before bed….

And then, this morning, there was an dull, empty feeling inside as I realised that my streak of 85 days, my streak that was going to hit 100 days in the first week of the new year, was gone.

Back to 1, then. And I confess the temptation not to sit down and write today was pretty strong. It’s a truism, I guess, that for those of us for whom the streak is a powerful force for continuing the daily ritual, its loss seriously depletes the energy needed to start again.

But here I am. Again. One day today, then three, then ten… and eventually 85, and (this time… or, I guess, maybe another time) 100. And somewhere along the line, I’ll pass 100,000 words and another little badge will pop up to give my body another endorphin kick.

And, more importantly, I know that all the good things that have flowed from this daily task will continue just the same as they did when the streak was going strong.

Which is why I know I’ll be sitting here again tomorrow, and the day after that…
