The Good Patrons of 750 Words

A Note of Inspiration from Member Ren Bacquie

Over 365 consecutive days, I wrote half a million raw, truth-searing words. 750words.com was with me every step of the way.

What started as a journey to write my first work of fiction turned into a quest to write to heal. I used writing to explore my identity, question my internal programming, and recall all the things that are good about me.

It wasn’t easy. Every morning, even on the weekends, I’d wake at 4:30am, make some tea, then start writing before 5am. But as I got into the rhythm, and as I started collecting those cool badges, I found that my commitment to writing daily was becoming a can’t miss habit.

I’ve grown more bold in writing what is true for me and I’ve since published some of my words. Some have applauded my truth; others recoil. Doesn’t matter to me because I finally feel in control of my narrative and words.

There are 11 lessons I learned writing half a million words over 365 consecutive days:

Lesson #1: Mix spontaneity with the structure
Lesson #2: Honour the in-between stage
Lesson #3: Writing is a form of activism
Lesson #4: Remembrance is a sacred act
Lesson #5: Saying no is a spirit-rich experience
Lesson #6: Words can heal your lineage
Lesson #7: Rest is a revolutionary act
Lesson #8: Question your internal oppression
Lesson #9: There’s gold in the gloom
Lesson #10: Your eat pray love moment can happen in your own home
Lesson #11: Words are holy
