The Good Patrons of 750 Words

A Note of Inspiration from Reidun Saxerud

I’ve been a member since 2010 (back when dinosaurs roamed…). I tended to go on and off from this site on the regular and sometimes went up to five or six months without writing. But for the past several months I have returned as a regular writer and decided to become a Patron. It’s the least I could do as I patiently received emails nudges every day without fail. This place gave me a great avenue to vent, process, and just pour out streams of consciousness and thoughts that made sense to no one but myself, with objective feedback on them too. It’s not nearly as satisfying to just dump them into a locked block or word processor. The format is so inviting. On and off I tried to work on Nanowrimo or personal writing projects here and it didn’t quite work, I was just too addicted to my 10-minute entries. Yet recently I did in fact start using this to break through some writers’ block for my novel. Lo and behold, I can write a full chapter in just a few days rather than weeks or months. I don’t know if it was just the adult maturity that comes with living Life on Life’s terms or the sense of duty and pride I feel in being a Patron, but after six years this is finally falling into place, and I’m well on my way to breaking my previous (small but still mighty) streak of 39 days. Wednesday will mark the first 30-day streak I’ve had since 2011! The streaks are not as important to me as the word count, but there is something satisfying about seeing your work and life come together in such a cool, interactive way that doesn’t offer too much or too little. Here’s to another six+ years!
