The Friends & Patrons of 750 Words
750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to Apr 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.
On May 1st, all existing users of the site will be given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after May 1st, 2013 will be required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.
We're both very much interested in keeping the spirit of this site intact. We are open to giving away a certain number of free accounts away every month... especially if you're willing to tell us a bit about yourself and your story. If you can't afford to pay $5/month for whatever reason, please feel free to make your case to Kellianne.
We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

1 cupintuitive stats
Either change the red/green coloring on the stats page to align with what people expect (green is good, red is bad) or pick two different colors so that the ‘more than’ and ‘less than’ meaning of the colors is easier to understand.

750 Words has given me the motivation I needed to get back to work on my novel, and has helped me clear my mind and gather my thoughts on a daily basis. It offered me much more than just a place to dump confessions, rants, or scribbled tidbits on scenes and worlds: it totally changed my daily routine, and now I start off each day writing. It helps me focus my ideas and thoughts and is a great chance for me to figure things out, just by talking—well, typing—it over with myself, and it’s really pushed me into taking action and laying out the goals I need to accomplish. I’m a much more productive person because of 750words, so here we are: a toast to the best writing site I know of.

I really didn’t think I’d enjoy this site as much as I do – I do it first thing in the morning, and find it calms me, motivates me, and really starts me off on a great note. Thank you for creating it!
Testimonial Note from Joseph Raby on Mon, Jun 13
At first I worried that signing up for this was just going to add more pressure to my already full life, but instead it’s been a wonderful way to empty my mind and discover some truths. I LOVE the daily nudges! Thanks Buster!

I just made it to a 30 day streak, 50,000 words and 63 days total. Thank you Buster for putting this out there. Consistency is not one of my strong points so this exercise in discipline has revealed some surprising things to me. Sometimes the things that I write feel creative and inspired. Other times it feels like a total struggle just to do it at all and the things I write are just a lot of the random meaningless snowflakes from the blizzard of thoughts whirling around in my head. The thing that I always get from writing every single time is that it makes a little bit of space for new inspirations, ideas and creativity to come into being and that is what I love about it the most. Again, thanks Buster. I love this thing you made.

Daily writing has helped me tap into my creative side. I have so many wonderful ideas to offer the world. I recently started writing a book, and I must say thank you to 750 words for helping me realize this unknown talent. Thank you for allowing me to share my gifts with others, and doing my part to make a difference in my community. Writing has been a key factor in getting me to “do something!”

I have a tradition now: A morning iced coffee in my pajamas and 20 minutes of writing. Right now I am deciding whether to take a new job with a 100% raise but a lot of life transition, or stay in my stable job and focus on non-work arenas. Big decision, lots of words every day as I seek my truth for the next decade. This process is invaluable.

This site has helped discipline my writing. Though I often don’t get to it until late in the afternoon, I always have something rattling around in my brain that I want to put into words. By the time I get to sitting in front of the keyboard, I’m ready and raring to go. I’m using the site to further a story idea set at the turn of the century. 1900. During the day I do some research so that by the time I’m ready to write, I have a focus. Works for me!

I raise my cup to this site. I have found that I can write nonsense, sadness, joy, and humor all in one day if the feeling strikes me. It helps me think, and I can start or end my days with a clear head. Thank You!!

The daily ritual of emptying my thoughts into my keyboard has been soothing my brain for a month now. I have never considered myself much of a writer, but having a white screen as my audience really takes the pressure off. Thanks so much for this amazing site!

5 cups250words.com for kids?
Summer is here and I thought a version of this site would be a great thing for my kids who like writing, are learning how to type, and enjoy earning badges.
Have you considered a site with smaller word targets, or even letting people choose their word target when they sign up, and/or adjust them under their settings?
Thanks for such a great site!

5 cupsAutomatic Exporting of Entries
It’d be great if Buster told some robot to automatically email me an export of my entries every few days or every week as a backup. I love that I can export easily and do my own backups; it’d be even better if this process was automated.
Thanks for all the work Buster!

I’ve been enjoying this site for going on 48 days; it does indeed get the cobwebs out, make it easier to focus on the day’s issues and problems and get me thinking more logically. I almost blew my streak yesterday just because it got too close to midnight, and that make me feel more anxious than I’ve felt in a while! So thanks, 750words, for not only giving me a place to empty out my brain, but also for hooking me to an obviously dangerously addictive daily habit. You’re awesome. ^^
Testimonial Note from Gwenllian Lynne on Wed, Jun 08
Getting back into writing my morning pages has been immensely satisfying. Just doing the work is reward enough, but I love, love, LOVE 750 Words! It’s an incredibly easy and convenient way to write, and the incentives make it fun to keep those streaks going. 750 Words is well worth a few bucks a month of patronage. If you’re using it, please support it!

1 cupAssurance that Buster doesn't read these things
All I want is an item in the FAQ or somewhere, where Buster promises he won’t look at any of entries, or that our entries are encrypted or something. I think this won’t be possible because then he can’t debug things that go wrong on entries, but I really can’t shake the feeling that maybe he looks at our entries sometimes (just innocently, in the course of maintaining the database or something). Please, Buster, I want some peace of mind.

3 cupsCups of Amnesty
For each of the “bigger” levels you attain – like, say albatross and up – you earn a cup of amnesty with each level gain. Or you could exchange three months of wall of awesome status for a cup of amnesty, as well (or more, or less; fiddle with the ratio if you need to), which would give people even further incentive to do the one-month challenges. And each cup of amnesty will allow you to “buy forgiveness” for a missed day. They should be very rare so you don’t make it too easy to miss and just get forgiveness, but I think it would be a really good idea so that someone who has 200+ days streak doesn’t have to start over completely from zero for missing a single day.

This site and the encouragement of the badges has really helped to inspire me to write. I sit at work in the mornings, type my words, and feel more clear headed about the day. I have been wanting to make this a habit for a long time now, but there is something about the possibility of the reward of an abstract, cyberspace animal badge that keeps me going.
Testimonial Note from Lynn Forster on Tue, Jun 07
I love this site, and want to make sure it keeps going. It helps me to not only clear my brain, but to find insights that otherwise get lost in the business of life.
