The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

10 cups for 1000 days! Woohoo! It was amazing to see that number in my streak stats. I appreciate so much having this private venue to empty my over-thinking mind. Thank you Buster & Kellianne

More badges for accomplishments

Seeing progress towards a badge is huge motivation. My favorite games to play have dozens of badges/achievements that I can show off to friends, or that add to a gamerscore on a social network, etc. The badges here are great but sparse. Adding more, and maybe some secret ones!, would make it even more motivating to log in and keep writing.

The badges really give me a goal to work towards, and it provides a great motivation. But the more I get, the fewer I have left to provide that motivation, so I’d love to see more.

I had started the 3 pages exercise once in the past and again during a creative writing course with Melanie Biehle (Inward Facing Girl blog). I eventually fell off the boat, wagon…. whatever you want to call it… in both cases. Wishing to start fresh and once again looking up how many words 3 pages is (I’m a stickler for details), I found 750words.com. At first uncertain about committing personal thought to a site somewhere “out there” I quickly decided “what the heck”. I have LOVED it. The reminder e-mails are critical. The gamifying aspect with badges has also had a positive effect on my commitment. Who knew? In any event, I have managed to uncover my “spark”, my reason for living. I’ve learned what wasn’t driving me too. Things I had considered important were simply simply “effects” or “Symptoms”. Clearing my mind by writing about items I was thinking about has allowed me so much clarity. I have let side projects drop after realizing why I was dragging my feet with them (they weren’t critical to ME). I’m getting more done now, because I’m doing less. I know. The sentence doesn’t make sense unless you’ve experienced it. I throw items on the page and keep typing. I don’t stop. I don’t critique… okay, I do go back and fix spelling errors and typos. It won’t cure everything and my nit-pickiness is here to stay. I’m alright with that, it has been a rather faithful companion. In any event, 750words is FANTASTIC. Love it.

You can make it. That’s all that matters. Write the words, no matter how hard it might feel because it does really get easier.

Today is my 750th day on 750.com I had no idea how helpful it could be to write without agenda. Even a journal has an implied purpose. I’m amazed at the creativity writing without agenda yields.

Have really enjoyed this site. Use it in the morning to help me get my thoughts in the right direction. I get to finish out thoughts in my head that otherwise would remain fragments that just fly by.

I love 750words. It’s unobtrusive and yet encouraging enought to help me write every day, and writing every day turned to be an awesome thing. I use it as a therapy tool and as a writing-for-fun challenge and as a sure road around any obstacles. Just a fact of sitting down every day and concentrating on my words, these fifteen minutes that’re for me and me alone, done wonders for my overall well-being.
Long live 750words!

750words is awesome, even after a break of 6 months. That beeing said, I’d love to see that 750words is evolving rather than feeling like riding in that sweet, sweet oldtimer which has to be constantly fixed to hinder it from breaking apart. Don’t know if you have the ressources, but some fresh in here would be terrific.

I think there should be a badge for 500,000 and 1 million words. Nowhere near those goals, but it would be nice to have them.

I used to write my Morning Pages by hand. Now that I’m doing it online, I’m finding I do it faster, and I feel like I’m more motivated to do them – it’s more convenient for sure. One month in, and I’m feeling inspiration growing and clarity returning.

I have been able to write several novels and short stories because I have started them with a clear mind. I have taken the detritus of my day and spewed it over characters and turned them into interesting people that I can finally relate to. it’s been exciting and healing to come here and reduce the attic stuffing. thanks.

I have always had a huge problem with discipline, enthusiasm, and motivation, but 750words is slowly helping me with it. Sure, it’s taken since April to get me to an 80+ day streak, but I’m amazed that it’s happening at all. This website has been a godsend. It’s proven to be the perfect format for dumping all my thoughts, personal or creative, and keeping them perfectly private.

I love 750Words!

I’m thrilled to get my NaNo today. I didn’t sign up for the NaNoWriMo because I write nonfiction. But I did it here—over 52,000 words in one month. I had no clue that I could do that when I started on this site some 317 days ago. Getting into the flow of daily writing works wonders. Thanks again and again Buster and Kellianne.

I find the badges super encouraging and motivating. It’d be nice if there was more for the days in the row in between the 30, 100, 200, 365, 500 day ones.

Yesterday I got my Pegasus badge. I’ve been on a streak for 365 days. I started last year on this day with the plan to see if I could write for a month. December ended and I met my goal. I asked myself, why stop? So I didn’t. I just kept writing, always aiming for completing another month. Soon I realized I didn’t ever have to stop. Here’s to hoping I’ll be here to post about getting that Space Bird.

It is true to say that this site has changed my life. There are things I can do now that I would not have considered possible two years ago when I started. For instance, I now write every morning and regularly write a thousand words each time. I have just completed the NaNoWriMo challenge for November through writing on the site. I am also less than a calender month away from hitting a five hundred day sequence that will give me the Space Bird badge. The crazy thing is that it really matters! Finally, in ten weeks time if I continue writing every day at the current level, I shall hit a million words written since I joined this page. So a lot has happened that I could not have foreseen when i started back in 2011 and I can now realistically consider the possibility of making my living from my writing. Thank you Buster and Kellianne for this amazing service.

Wonderful site. After getting 100,000 words for NaNoWriMo, I came here November 30th, and already it has impacted me so much that I signed up for the December challenge, have wrote over 5,000 words today, and become a patron. I am recommending this site to all my NaNo writing buddies!

A great place that I use to write essays, express my inner thoughts, and occasionally fiction. It is great to see the sorts of themes/subject that run within each of these categories once the writing is done for the day.
