The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

My first idiom is Spanish. I challenged myself to write blog posts in English so that my thoughts can reach more people.

750 words help me exercising my writting skills. Taking the one month challenge help me getting into the mood and getting confidence to write in a whole diferente language.

Now, I am writting posts in English and planning to participate again in the monthly challenge, soon.

Thanks for this awesome site, Buster!

Total Time Spent Writing (Month/Year)

Under [this month]‘s Statistics, add another bullet that’s a running tally of all of the time spent writing for the month. Annual statistics should also use a similar tally so that writers can see how much (or little) of their time is actually spent writing in the grand scheme of things (example: 1,000 hours per year). Perhaps those writers who write 100 hours in one month or 1,000 hours in one year will get a special badge.

I just reached 365 days and earned my Pegasus badge! I’m so excited to have reached this milestone and can’t believe it’s really been a year that I’ve kept up with writing every day. It’s shown me that I am capable of forming and keeping good habits and working toward a long term goal. I’m looking forward to becoming a Space Bird, and I’d like something to reach for after 500 days. A 750 badge would be perfect!

Was zipping along on a streak of over 200 days and on Friday just missed a day. The routine changed and I missed it and didn’t realize it until today.
That is a good thing. It makes me think about how important this process has been and how grateful I am that Buster and Kellianne have created and nurtured this wonderful space that feels like it was made just for me.

Writing the daily words unclutters my mind.

After more than 5 months of daily writing my life and mind feels more stable. These days I look more into the now and near future than into the past. Things seem much more clear.

What a great habit! The site does it’s job, being simple and stable enough – but there are some things I’d love to see improved to keep me paying the monthly fee…there’s not so much extra features compared to the old pen and paper approach, especially if you’re writing in a language other than English.

Thanks!

Also surprise badges that are not listed. I’d love to see an unexpected badge appear after some more or less obvious milestone.

I just came back after over a year of not writing, and three days in I’m certain it was a good idea.

I’m glad this exists.

I just completed 200 consecutive days of inspired writing! I’m so excited. I love and appreciate 750words so much. Writing here on a daily basis has helped me to sort out my thoughts and to heal old wounds. Thank you and bless your hearts!💖💖💖💖

Improve the monthly stats page

I’m interested in seeing if the bar graphs for emotions and concerns could be changed into a cool pie chart like you have for the today stats! I really like the pie charts and I feel like I get a better at-a-glance view of my emotions and concerns with them. The bar graphs are somehow less informative to me.

I discovered during National Novel Writing month that if I wrote my words for the day and then used my 750 words to brainstorm, I never had dry spells where I couldn’t think of anything to write. I’ve used 750 ever since to brainstorm for my writing (as well as to complain about my day and generally rant). I don’t do “morning pages,” more like “winding down the day” pages.

I’d also like to thank Kellianne for fixing my streak when I was so busy finishing a story (yes, I was writing) that I forgot to log into 750 until after my deadline. I kept going—after all, why stop doing something that has been so very useful to me?—but was sad to have lost a 400+ day streak. Thanks, Buster and Kellianne, for making this available to us all.

After 186 days (where I could just taste moving to the next level), my brain decided to let me miss a day. Sometimes I think I share my head with another person. Sometimes that person is benevolent, other times they seem either neutral or malevolent. So I spent some time evaluating my whole reason for doing the daily writings. I raged against that blank spot on my calendar, that blemish that will never go away, my relationship with perfection. It’s not easy to admit that there is truth outside of myself, that I don’t have everything all together, that I’m not always in control of things. Life smacked me again. I could quit or move on. I decided to move on, put that little bit of reality into my back of tricks and realize I still have a lot to learn about myself. Some of it won’t be pretty, but it’s still me. And I think I’m okay with that.

More Fonts

I would like to change my font based on the type of mood that I’m in. Bradly Hand when I’m feeling normal, Joker when I’m a little edgy, and French Script when I’m feeling fancy. Stuff like that. It would require you to have a font pull-down menu on each day page. I don’t know how that could be managed.

More text analysis

I sometimes write in Afrikaans, and then the text analysis means nothing. I wonder if one could push it through Google translate and get some text analysis from that?

I have written a lot of words here. I don’t think it means much, those words, in their content, but it has made me a better typist, and I write much easier. Emails has become a breeze.

But the other day, while I was writing my words, a vision statement I have been thinking about for my new business, just popped you. Like newborn baby it’s not cute or accomplished, but it’s now in the world.

I am a space bird. :) Today I finished my 502 day in a row and even though I hit that mark two days ago I still couldn’t break the habit. I’m heading off to bed now that I’m done.

An iPhone/iPad app

I’d love an app for 750 Words, but an android version as well as iPhone. There are a lot of times when I’m out and about and thoughts come to me and it’s difficult to see the website on my phone. I’m addicted to 750 Words and I want to have it on me at all times! :)

I have used today’s 750 words to draft this testimonial. A career assessment just called me a rabbit, as I am extremely cautious and can be afraid to start new things. The blank page can be a fearsome foe to the overly cautious. Indeed, it was only shockingly recently that I realized that I could write words I was not sure about on paper! This “thinking through writing” people talk about happens when words are used for reflection and exploration—and sometimes the truth of ideas is revealed by saying the wrong thing first. (Imagine that!) So, 750 Words is an amazing tool: it helps me get started writing something—anything—without going back to erase what I just wrote (because I need to rack up more words!). I write out everything that comes to mind, regardless of relevance or truth; if I’m doing this as part of a writing project, I then save everything in another file and take the axe to it there. This site is the haven that welcomes any words that come to mind—be they monstrous, preposterous, or nonsense—because they all help get to 750. Thank you, Buster and Kellianne, for making this site available!

A quick note, to say – thank you SO much, Buster and Kellianne! Especially for being so very generous as to give us older users a lifetime free account. I’m very glad this is available to me – i’ve come back to writing my daily 750 after several months’ gap. And in just a week’s time (of daily writing), i can see that my writing habit has already become stronger. It’s no longer a chore :-) I look forward to more benefits from writing regularly, as i try to achieve a longer streak..

I’ve been using this site for emotional purging. So I feel like this site gives me a chance to divulge all the negative toxic emotions that I hold inside!! I am so thankful for the opportunity to just be liberated and honest with myself. So it’s very personal for me.
