The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

I just completed 50,000 words for August and got my NaNo badge for my effort. I can’t begin to tell you all how exciting this is for me. I had previously attempted NaNoWriMo for several November’s and never reached the goal. This site gave me the space to take on the challenge and it was just awesome. No matter what your writing goals, this is definitely the site to write on. I love it and I have grown so much as a writer this past year. I am 24 days away from the Pegasus Badge and I am over the top excited about that as well. It has helped with the procrastination and the blank page. I admit some of my content at times were wayward words but my fingers were still dancing on the keyboard forming the habit that a real writer needs to possess. A writer writes and daily writing here is the best thing ever. Go for it and stick with it. For any aspiring writer it is so well worth it.

I started 750words on a whim during the last week of Camp NaNoWriMo and it got me from severely under my goal to actually reaching it. The next month, I threw caution to the wind and tried writing the grand 50k in one month. While I didn’t reach it, I did get really close, which is something I’ve never done before! 750words has given me tangible goals and rewards to reach for, as well as the permission to write bad, as long as I’m still writing. I haven’t missed a single day since I signed up, and I don’t plan on it any time soon! This website really has changed my life. I used to be a ‘writer’, and now I’ve written more since I signed up than I have in years. There’s not enough ways to say thank you for this website!

750 Words has shown me that daily spontaneous writing takes only 10 or 15 minutes. It doesn’t have to be a Big Thing that eats up my other writing time. And nearly every day, it clarifies my thoughts or priorities, or sparks a new idea or two. Completely worthwhile.

I also love that my writing disappears when I’m done. I know it’s archived and I can get it back, but I feel free to write honestly or exaggerate or complain, and those pages won’t be hanging around visible next time I visit the website. Much better than having to open a document and scroll down and then store it somewhere myself.

Thanks for this elegant tool; I’m 60 days in and loving it.

I’m feeling so pleased with myself because I went away for a week and my rattly old laptop doesn’t travel well. So I left it behind and still managed to keep up my streak!

Sometimes it was my friend’s laptop, which doesn’t even run the same OS as mine. Sometimes I even wrote on my phone in bed because the kids were running riot in the living room. One night I even wrote on my phone in a station waiting room after my train was cancelled. It wasn’t easy, but I stuck at it. Just goes to show what the lure of the badges can do for productivity.

I think the badge for 750 days would be very appropriate.
It would coincide with the naming of this resource and be a good milestone for those who wander in the badgeless desert between 500 and 1000 days… ))

I found this site through the Freelance Writing site.

750Words is exactly the place I needed to shake off the regimen of writing for money, to re-establish writing every day. I used Morning Pages off and on for many years, but this site is the best place for me. In fact, coming here is the first thing I do every morning, and my days are better for it.

This is a uncomplicated place to write and then receive feedback about that writing. I just quit a gamified habit building site because it is very complicated, requires a lot time to maintain, and just was not engaging.

I am approaching a full year of writing every day; I look forward to writing every day for a long, long, time.

Thank you, Buster and Kelliiane, your work has enriched my life.

I’d love to see some extensions of existing badges: more badges for consecutive entries under 20 minutes, for writing at morning/night, etc. I’m (kind of sadly) motivated by that kind of thing and it would provide a little extra oomph during the long droughts between 30 and 100 entries, etc.

Out of the blue, I receive the notification that I got the badge for 250,000 words – Wow, I never thought I had written so much! I’m really happy and plan to keep on writing as long as I can.

I don’t know about the rest of you but I really love the badges. I didn’t get many gold stars in school so this is like a do over for me. I am shooting for the Nano badge this month with only 7 more days to reach 50,000. I am going to get there. It is so therapeutic for me to get all my stuff out and know that it is safe and I can return to it whenever I need to. This site is the best thing that has happened to me in a while. It sure beats going to see a shrink. LOL Hope all of you writers find the joy that I have. Really, really love the badges. Happy writing everyone.

My best friend had a bit of an emotional crisis this week, so decency compelled me to give up my 22 day streak and call her. Back to the egg I go, and the Albatross was within my grasp…heavy sigh. Who knows if I will ever nab that squirrel?

I am unspeakably grateful for 750Words, though. Since graduating with my undergrad degree in Creative Writing, I have struggled and struggled to build and maintain a daily writing habit with minimal success. I am just one of those people who needs a shove every day, or a million other little things will find their way between me and my words. This site has been that shove for me for almost two years now – in a gentle, encouraging way.

With the help of 750Words, I’m setting a goal to have the rough draft of my current fiction project done by the end of May next year – and also to bag the Phoenix by that time! Thank you. Thank you so much. I would be so lost without this little sanctuary… and would probably still be struggling to even start a novel, let alone write through to the end.

I first discovered the morning pages when I picked up a copy of The Artist’s Way almost twenty years ago. That book had a profound effect on me, and i adopted the practice of the morning pages for secret years. But like so many other things, it faded from my life over time as responsibilities and other details came and went. I was therefore very pleased to discover this website a month ago, as recommended by a friend The last 30 days have been only a pure delight to begin my day with some writing, and a part of me feels very blessed and thankful that I have returned to the morning pages. Thank you to Buster and Kellianne for creating and maintaining this wonderful gift of a website.

I would love to know what my longest streak is. I was somewhere in the 130’s and realized that I missed a day this week and now am not sure just how long my streak was before I broke it. I know I could count the days, but that would be tedious…

750 Words is the first time in my life I’ve been able to consistently journal on a daily basis. It now feels as necessary and helpful as exercising and eating vegetables. Something about 750 Words just works in a way that my 20 years of previous attempts haven’t.
