The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our son Niko, and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

Thank you 750 Words for being my daily (nightly) brain dump, to do list, and mental health saver. I’m on my longest streak, of 245 days, and it feels grand. I’d given up daily writing for a long time, and I’m so glad that I’ve found my way back. I don’t know if I would be doing it if it wasn’t for this site!

I enjoy writing when I force myself to do it day after day and it is something I look forward to. It kind of clears my brain to work on another story of to edit one all ready written.
My writers group I belong to have noticed a difference in my writing. I have only been doing this for a little over a year. I am looking forward to bigger and better challenges.

today is my hundredth day writing in a row, which means that I will get my phoenix badge!! It is a fitting emblem considering that I was so close four years ago, and after breaking that streak and spending so many years having trouble replicating it, I am finally able to “rise from the ashes” of my missed day and emerge as a beautiful, fiery phoenix!

750 words is extremely therapeutic. Not only do I seem to write better, but I also find my thoughts are a bit more organized. I’m so thankful for a website like this that gives people a place to assess their writing in a fun and easy way.

I have been a member of this site for quite a long time, but have never been especially consistent in my writing here, I am , however, always appreciative that the site is here when I come a-lookin’ for it! I’m on a small streak at the moment—thanks for being here so that I can make it a bigger one :)

Looking back I first started using this site in 2012! So long ago, but I had done morning pages in the past and wanted something so I could easily type my morning pages since I thought it would be faster than handwriting them. It is and I still think I get the same impact, even though the artist’s way cautions against not hand writing them. I find that more I try the easier it gets to maintain a streak.

Thank you for spurring me to write all these days. These particular cups of patronage? Two more months of not making it through the monthly challenge. Ironically, I forgot a day after signing up on October 1… D’oh!
But 750 words forgives me and is there for me even when I have a fixed place on the Wall of Shame. :) Over the years, I have written over 300,000 words with this site, even if a lot of it is not on contiguous days. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

As though I have some trouble writing several days in a row, I am much more regular with my writing work than I used to be. It clears off my mind and it gives me the feeling to achieve something. I love the idea of writing a tiny bit everyday and watching the pages piling up little by little. For once, I manage to write a story!

Over the month and a half that I have been more conscientious about 750 words, my typing has gotten faster and more accurate. Yay! My next objective is to not have self-importance be the biggest wedge on the stats.

I write each day with 750 words or more. It helps with clearing my mind before I work on any stories I have already started or even thinking of something that might inspire up ahead of the road.

I have been using 750words off and on for about two and a half years. I find that my day always goes better when I take the time to do this first thing in the morning, as soon as I sit down and before I do anything else. And I often have a good idea while I’m writing. Thank you, 750words!

How has 750 Words affected me? My heart is a little broken on this 2nd day of October that my day was so busy yesterday (from 5 am till 11 pm) that I never did sit down to write, after signing up for the monthly challenge with high hopes. I wrote 2 other blog posts and numerous emails, so I have no doubt I wrote 750 words, but not here. It has come to matter to me that I take this time for myself, and I am sad when I fail in my habit. So, thank you for creating a space that has created in me a desire to do, and to do well, this daily exercise.

There is no way I would be hitting my daily word count if it was not for this site. I struggled for months to set aside writing time to work on my novel. With the help of this site and all of the cool stats and badges I am happy to report that my daily word count is a breeze. Not only do I meet it, I exceed it. I have also been able to complete all of my planning for my book by using this site. Thank you 750 words, you are my hero!!!

This would make my life so much easier! I would be able to keep it up even on the days where I am half adult, half taxi driver for my kids. Working in small chunks on my phone or my iPad would save me time at home giving me more time to play with kids or even my spouse! ;)

I started way back in 2010 and I then I barely used it. Recently I’ve come back to writing and came back on the website to realize that this place is absolutely integral to me succeeding in writing. Keeping up a streak is killer motivation, 750 words doesn’t seem to feel as insurmountable after 58 days and I’m feeling great. I beat September (Mani/Pedi here I come!) and I’m going to beat October, just in time for Nanowrimo. Watch me go!

I have been on and off writing my “mourning” pages here on 750words. I’m now on a 39 day streak thanks to signing up for the September challenge. I am very proud of my success and can’t recommend 750words.com highly enough to anyone who is trying to get into the habit of writing .
One month of continuous writing was long enough to get me going. As of today I switched to longhand writing which I find even more rewarding and which is a direct result of writing every day.
Thanks Buster and Kelianne for this awesome site!

I would really appreciate if there was an app for this amazing website! I would be able to spend much more time writing and I would be able to type it in the app as soon as it popped into my head, instead of waiting until I have computer access.

750words has been my constant during four very topsy-turvy years. It has served as respite and beacon, and I am immensely grateful to have found it. Thank you, Buster and Kellianne.

In a very busy life this site is a great way to be able to get my thoughts down in a forum that only I can see and have some reference to go back and look at things later. I had no idea this site existed until I started on it in July and have been writing every day since. Thanks Buster and Kellianne for starting this site.

I would also like a better mobile site – wouldn’t use it for primary writing but occasionally could come in handy

The badges are addictive … and once you’re several months in and have surpassed 100,000 words there just aren’t that many!

Really can’t recommend this site and practice highly enough. I think the discipline of sitting down for 20 minutes every morning is a good grounding for the day, and I know I feel the psychological benefits. It’s also a help in remembering dreams which I would otherwise never record. Thank you 750 words!

A "You did it" mail!

Hi. I’ve just done september month’s challenge and written every day for a whole month. I expected to wake up to a “You did it” mail in my inbox. It would have been nice… :( Maybe an idea to make such a mail…? Alice. Ps. Got such a mail later this day! Sorry!
