The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

I’m new to 750 Words but so far it’s been great to journal and lay out my ideas for the day. I need to rebuild a writing practice and this has been a great way to start.

Typing sounds

As you press each key, 750 words plays a typing sound. This is essentially audio feedback that provides a sense of progression as you write.

I basically got this idea from OmmWriter which is I think an amazing program to help writers focus on content production.

I have been an on again off again “closet” writer for many years. You know the one with lots of ideas but little in the way of consistent execution. I had made a solid commitment to build my daily writing muscles this year and complete my first novel. With the help of 750 words I know I will accomplish what I set out to do in 2019. Flame on!

750 words has changed my life. The daily nudges, the challenges, the word tracking, the badges, all of it. It is because of 750 words that I can finally say I have written over 150,000 words towards my goal of one day being published. Thank you guys, from the bottom of my heart. I’ve been a member of this amazing site since August of 2015, and while I’ve ghosted more than a few months at a time, I truly feel like 2019 is going to be the year I make this dream a reality, a feat I’d never be able to accomplish without what you guys have done for the writing community. Thank you. Merci. Gracias.
-Signed, a struggling writer who finally found her path.

Being new to 750 words is an awesome experience and one I recommend to anyone who is searching for a platform to free write. So easy to use but is fun too..so much better than any other of the more complex writing sites. Thanks to Masterclass for pointing me to 750 words..

on mobile, after i write enough to fill the screen every time i finish a line it sends me back to the top of my entry, and then i have to scroll back down to see what i’m currently typing. if only this feature was fixed, i would be so happy!

I use 750Words.com to declutter my brain to get a clearer mind before my day start. I use it to reflect and be thankful about my day before I end my day. I tend to sleep better. I write to brainstorm my thoughts and ideas then set goals afterward. Lastly, I use to share all my expressions and feelings here and not to share to a person so I tend to talk less with others since I used this website even to my love one or to my best friends. I tend to listen more to them talking than to talk like I used to which is great because i get to learn more about them. Writing is therapeutic for me especially writing freely and not worry that people will read your writing later. Therefore, my heart and mind are more open to write because of this I have explore a lot of great ideas or many amazing ideas and thoughts have revealed to me. Loving it. Will continue to write and write…. thanks to 750Words.com.

Note of thanks to 750 words for the “schedule time off” feature and for knowing stuff happens beyond our control. My internet was recently down for several days but I was able to use this feature to save my streak and my badges. I couldn’t get online but wrote my pages anyway. This site is awesome. Thank you!

750 Words is an essential part of my day that helps me to get everything else done. I use it as self therapy, to write about things that are bothering me or otherwise weighing on my mind; I use it to remind myself I need to straighten up my home, pay bills, get work done, and even have some fun time; and I use it to warm up my writing muscles, since I am a professional writer. I recommend others use it in similar ways, because it can really turn our life from scattered to focused.

Thank you so much to Kellianne who restored my streak after a time difference glitch wiped it out. And thanks too to Buster, and for this site that keeps me writing.

Hidden Count

I would love it if I had the option to keep my word count hidden until I reach my 750 word goal. Then just maybe a note at the bottom saying “goal achieved” so I know I have reached it. This would allow me to focus on my writing more than just my word count.

i’m very new to this site — well, not new, but a few months in. i’ve not been able to write consecutively for longer than five or six days — because of work and trips and the like — but every day i do, i’m glad i did.

i wake up with a lot of anxieties and thoughts colored by my depression. this site hasn’t cured anything – but it’s helped me start my mornings by putting all my feelings and thoughts on paper (screen) and seeing them. it keeps them from floating around in my head – and prevents them from gaining the strength they gather if they are allowed to reside solely in my head as i navigate my day to day life.

it’s almost as if 750 is a vault where i do my best to lock up bad thoughts. the ones that are harmful to me and my reality. they jump off the screen and some still stick to me, but more than ever, some are okay with staying contained.
sometimes those harmful, nasty little thoughts just like to be seen. and acknowledged. and they are on 750. and i think that makes those creepy crawly no good ideas of myself and the world happy.
they want attention like anything else, and i can do that here in a safe way.

so, it’s good.

The way you do one thing is the way you do anything – I believe this adage in looking at my use of this website and reflecting on the patterns in my life I wish to change. I believed at first simply writing for 30 days in a row would be easy, but I have failed the challenge 3 times now. It’s helping me to see how my brain is wired and overcome those deeply trenched self-defeating habits that keep me from reaching major life goals. Thank you so much for this beautiful tool for self awareness.

I’m in Port au Prince Haiti and there was no WiFi all week. I’ve been doing the words on the phone via a data plan and a Bluetooth keyboard. I worked for an hour to get a signal and finally got the page to load and typed so fast…. I looked and saw it was 11:59 and i got to 759 words and tried to save them but the signal was slow and the last time it saved it was only 729 it got half way through saving when the new day began… with only hours away from getting the 100 day badge.

Well today is day one and we’ll get there again.

Stats for more than just a single day

I LOVE looking at the info about my post – mood, common words, all the graphs and charts are fantastic. I really wish there was a way to view these over a longer amount of time. View by the week, month, or year. I think it would be very helpful to see trends over time. Please please please!

Variable 24 hour segment

I love the idea of 750 words and have made it a part of my New Year’s Resolution, and generally it’s pretty awesome. However, I’m a night owl, and often would like to continue writing until 2 am or later. I’d love to start my 750words day at, say, 5am, allowing me to write late. Right now I just have my timezone set a few hours behind where I am.

This year I used 750 Words to help me both complete nanowrimo (after having had to take a year off last year) and then to actually complete the novel. I was able to finish my novel because I didn’t want to break my streak. Thank you, 750 words.

Bug issue

Happy new year! I am on iOS and accessing via Safari. When I am typing, the screen will jump back up to the top randomly. I can keep typing, but I can’t see what I’m doing. I will scroll back down to the bottom, and after a few moments, it will pop back to the top again. It doesn’t seem to be connected to the auto save feature… I also can’t see my cursor at all, which makes editing difficult. Thank you so much for all of your work and dedication!

challenge completion reward

Hi all,
Is it me, or is it true that when you complete your month’s challenge… nothing happens?
The first time around you get the challenge badge. But other than that, there isn’t any message confirming you made it, a reminder of the reward you promised yourself if you should succeed… you can see your name on the wall of awesome, I guess, but only if you actually go and search for it. And again, after the first successful challenge – your name was already there.

I guess what I’m trying to say is – show me I made it and you’re proud of me! :)

What a turbulent year. Rich in the richest ways, and some deep backslides health wise which challenged my very core. And throughout my health crisis, I wrote through all the pain. 750 Words was a safe space. I sought solace here. Deeply moving experience of writing no matter what was going on. A steadying force for me. With deepest gratitude to the creators of this site, and to everyone who writes here. 2019, bring it. I’m ready. I’m fortified. I’ve got 750 Words.

I did it! 365 days of writing!!! Crossed the finish line while I was making my NYE resolutions for 2019 – and realized this means I actually kept one of my NYE resolutions for 2018 – to write on 750 Words every day for a whole year! It clears my mind, it’s my friend to natter to over coffee in the morning, my confidante on the days everything goes pear shaped, someone to rejoice with on the days everything unfolds the way it was meant to. So that means – resolutions can be kept – oh and I have made some great ones for 2019! This is going to be an amazing year!!!

Annoying Bug

When I hit more than 2k words, my editor started to jump up, just like with ipad/mobile version. I used a computer. The bug itself: you write, it jumps to showing you only last line and nothing before it. Regardless of how many times you adjust it to show more space, it goes back to seeing only last line.

It’s annoying because I cannot see what I wrote just a sentence before. And it’s scary, because there’s no other way to do 750words that would not be that buggy. I thought this bug belongs only to mobile, but apparently, it’s now on computer too.

Browser – google chrome.

PS It’s a recent bug – today is the first day when I experienced it.

Upon finding this site I thought that writing each day was a great idea, but I would adapt it for my own purposes… meaning that I would write about 4 days per week on days when I have fewer demands for my time. This lasted for one week only. Now I’ve found that since I’ve also begun reading for at least 30 minutes each day and meditate each morning that my thoughts are more available at the front of my mind and I am actually inspired to write everyday. Now, 2.5 weeks after encountering this site I’m happy to count myself among those who are writing each day! It is a very valuable habit and experience. 750 Words is now a pinned tab on my browser (1 of 5), so I’m committed to joining some of those with very long streaks one day!
