The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

It would be great to get an email with links to past entries – what I wrote last week, last month, last year.

I had wanted to create a system of writing every day. This is the first solution that I can really keep up with in a truly daily approach. The gamification (badges) and motivation that goes with the easy interface make 750words a pleasure! Thank you for this great resource!

I love this site and trying to write it daily but it has not happening yet. Work in progress. Feel great after writing it. I love most is that I can write anything about my thoughts and feelings and not worry about upsetting anybody or miscommunication. Brain dump in writing daily helps clear up my mind and shut up that inner voice in my head too. Loving it and will keeping writing.

750 Words has been an amazing help for me. I am only on my 9th day, but having a daily reminder to put my thoughts in print has helped me as a grad student and as a thinker in general. I start the day with 750 Words and I find myself more centered throughout the day. THANK YOU!

Adding metadata/tags to previous pages

Would it be possible to add metadata fields after the day is over? Sometimes when I go back and read past entries, I’d like to be able to tag them (patterns become apparent in retrospect) but can’t edit them to add the tags.

Many, many thanks for this site. I would never have thought I was capable of taking on the Feb Challenge — you guys have made it possible!! Many thanks!

A better mobile site

Please make it adaptive to screen size so that it is easier to read the text and interact with menus. I don’t know how it works on other websites, but most wordpress themes have this feature and utilize it really well, so that’s how I have my own website set up.

I always struggled with writing everyday previously. This site has been crucial in the improvements I’ve been making everyday!

Thank you for providing this site. The daily practice of writing a set minimum before starting my day helps me turn off my inner editor, use creative language lovingly before I do anything else has inspired my writing and work throughout the day. Thank you :-)

Wind down pages

I can’t tell you how much I love your site — it has been a companion on and off for almost a decade and has been such a wonderful outlet. The design is so beautiful, the features so cheery and encouraging and the whole experience makes you come back for more.

I’m in a period right now where I find myself very connected to the site and to writing in general. The words have become part of my morning routine and so helpful in so many ways.

Here’s the thing — I crave more. I wish that there was a way to do a separate “winding down” page every night. I find myself journaling or making notes or writing in other apps — but what I really want more than anything is to do that here. And to be able to do it in a way that is separate from the work that I do in the morning and the completion of those 750 words.

I know this would add complexity and maybe it would undermine the wonderful ethos of your website. I don’t think this is a place for journaling — nor would I ever want it to be. I just want to be able to work through things in the same way before I go to bed the way I do in the morning. And I would love to do it here more than anywhere else in the world.

I’ve been steadily building a daily journaling/writing habit with the help of 750words. I love how lightweight and simple it is, and seeing my stats is icing on the cake. Streaks are also a really powerful way for me to build my motivation and intention over time. Thanks for building such a great tool!

I’ve been using 750 Words everyday for the entirety of my free trail. I never knew that something so simple could have such a profound effect on my attitude, outlook, and all round mental state. I do a lot of work with people, and as an introvert, this can be draining on my mental energies. 750 words has become the perfect way to decompress at the end of the day. Thank you, 750 Words.

I’m on a 44 day streak now – on track with my New Year’s resolution! When I have the energy to come up with something new, I write poetry or make progress on a short story, but some days I journal, and that helps me enormously too. Margaret Atwood said that sometimes writing is like a flashlight in a dark place and this is definitely true for me. For anyone reading this, use your flashlight for good and keep writing!

I love 750 Words. I’ve been using it for years now, off and on. Anytime I need boost in my writing motivation, this is where I come. Their monthly challenges are inspiring. Last month, I signed up for the January challenge. I didn’t make it, but I still wrote WAY more during the month than I would have if I didn’t have those little check boxes egging me on. Thanks, 750 Words! I’ll be back, again and again. :)

Three achievements in one day… and another pending!

Definitely a 10 cup note this – I have spent the month writing website content for my own business, and other useful words (in between the ramblings, journaling and nonsense that comes out the you’re tired but have a target to meet).

I decided I was going to go for the Double Flock and the Nano badges in January as they both needed 50K words to complete. So signing up for the month’s challenge made sense too. Just completed all three of these and feeling a warm sense of accomplishment.

Now I just need to get 750 words out every day for the next 7 days and I’ll get my Phoenix badge for a 100 day streak.

Thank you 750 Words – you’ve certainly made getting that many words out enjoyable! :-)

I have been here for almost a month now and am very pleased. I started writing depressed and I really hope that the regular spelling of 750 words will help me clear my mind and free myself from depression. Every time I start writing in a very sad state, but by the end I feel how I feel better. Thank you very much for this opportunity!

Although I cringe at the use of comic-sans typeface, the simplicity and elasticity of this service has made me a believer. I did look at a bunch of other options before landing here and some were very robust, 750 words grabbed me at go. Hmmm, maybe I’ll copy and paste this into my next entry? Thank you 750 Words
