The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

Greetings the great team behind the site!

I would like to spread a little idea I read and agree upon from another member

I think making it possible to highlight, italicize, and add notes (like as a form of reflecting when reading an old page)..

This site has gotten me through some dark times. Times when my mind and emotions were a maelstrom. It helped me unpack these overwhelming thoughts and feelings and read my progress towards peace. It is a way for me to communicate to myself when I think that no one else is willing to listen.

I love this site, and even though it makes me sad when I miss a day or just miss getting enough words down to complete the monthly challenges (which happened yesterday — argh), I couldn’t be more grateful for having such an effective mechanism to get my thoughts out of my head and get my ducks in a row for the day’s tasks. And needless to say, in giving me daily writing practice, it helps me keep my prose style in good working condition. Thank you Buster and Kellianne!

It would be nice to have the ability to italicize, underline, and bold things. Even just using keyboard shortcuts would be nice.

I’ve been a member since 2012 and I cannot remember how I found this site, but it’s been such a joy. Now, I haven’t used it consistently that whole time, but rediscovering it recently, I’m just so glad it’s still here and still reliable. It’s helped me commit to living a more aware life and committing to a little creativity each day! I hope everyone has a chance to use 750words!

Thanks to the steady maintenance of this site over many years, I have been able to write, stop writing, and return to writing as needed. And this year for the first time, I am inspired to join NaNoWriMo. Thanks, 750words! You’ve been a faithful partner and friend, and I look forward to many more hours together.

I’ve only finished my 7-day streak ever today, but I want to say that I’m very happy that I signed up for 750 words. It was difficult getting to this point, but there’s really no bad or ideal time to start such a useful habit as journaling. Ever since I made it a daily habit of getting all my thoughts and feelings of the moment down onto something external, I’ve been feeling a lot lighter and more focused in how I spend my day and time. Some advice on the approach I’ve taken so far that was really successful for me: use this time also to construct what your perfect day would be and, more occasionally, check in with what your goals for the week, month, and life are (what is your best self like? how do you want to show up for others? what do you want in your life now vs. a day, week, month, year, or decade later?). this keeps the conversation with yourself productive and focused, while leaving some time to be silly or vent whatever it is that you’re feeling or going through. initially, i really struggled with using 750 words because it seemed like such an overwhelming amount to write in a fairly short period of time, but as soon as i redirected my energies outward, towards conceptualizing how i wanted to be as a person, for my relationships, and in my goals, i found myself easily meeting or overachieving this quota. for more tips/inspiration on what to ask yourself each morning via 750words, i recommend checking out brendon burchard on youtube! thank you, 750 words, for existing for people like me who is more comfortable typing than writing in a daily journal. :-)

Woo-hoo! A new morning pages milestone: today I got my million words badge! Since starting here in 2010, this site has become a huge part of my practice as a writer & lecturer. I’m often extolling the virtues of 750words.com and morning pages online, on Twitter & to my students – but thought it was high time I raised a few cups here. Thanks for providing a safe space for our feelings & ideas. Keep writing, everybody!

I continue to amaze myself as I “better my best” with my writing. 750 Words keeps me focused and on track. I was the person who always wanted to write but talked about it more than doing it. Now I write every day, throughout the day and it has grown my business along with my confidence and self esteem. For whatever ails you and all that inspires you, keep writing!

I’ve written here in spurts. I’ll write every day for a couple of months, and then abandon it for three. But I keep coming back. I’m currently at the end of a job, with nothing planned going forward. Coming here every day, writing down what is rattling around in my head, is helping me to find a path forward. Here, I can start to map out my next adventure, write down my dreams, and imagine the possibilities. This has become my sounding board, my safe place to vent, and the repository of my dreams. I would be lost without it.

I haven’t been very good at sticking with things in my life. I’ve hit 109 days in a row and aside from waking up, I don’t think I’ve done anything that many days in a row. It’s nice. The content isn’t always enthralling (it may just be “So Sleepy.” repeated 375 times) but it is consistent. I appreciate the place to come to be accountable. And I look forward to hundreds more in a row.

I signed up for 750 words a long time ago already. I never had the phase when I used it extensively. However it has always helped me extremely to get troubling and positive thoughts of my mind and get creative whenever I did use it.

Now that I am about to have a proper job and finished studying, I am back at it again. Let’s see how long I stick to it (hopefully for a loooong time).

I have really enjoyed this site. At first I was trying to use it to get some novel work completed. But I have found the free writing to keep me on task with my goals and to work out some challenges that I face with my new position at work. Thank you for creating this site!

I have just completed 365 days of writing out of the total 512 days that I have been on 750 words. It feels like an important milestone! The site has helped me keep a track of when I write best, how I write best, where I write better …at what time do the words flow best and when I prefer to keep a low key, not coming in – not because I’m not writing (but because i enjoy writing longhand better than writing on screen). I have completed monthly challenges, reached my longest 127 day writing streak, or sometimes I wrote in here only once or twice a month. During all of this – the excitement of getting the badges, the anticipation of simply dumping ideas, the maneuvering of time to fit words in a busy day, even the documenting of how things were super busy – I have felt part of a community of people who do this – writing everyday – with no other express purpose than airing their brains out – and that has really made a difference to how easily I now approach the writing habit. Thank you for making such a space available!

Thank you 750words for being here.

I have been here on and off since 2016. At first it was really hard just to say what was on my mind. Everything I wrote was still filtered and I couldn’t say everything I had to say. I was too afraid. But the more I wrote the more confident I felt about letting out that jumbled mess of thoughts and emotions I kept tightly held inside. They were things that still choke me up which I can’t tell anyone else about.

Just having them out there, out of my head has helped me to calm down and start living instead of reacting. I always come back when I have to work out something in life. Maybe this time around I’ll beat my 44 day streak.

It’s comfortable, inviting and fun to use this site to write. I started so many years ago, and I just now, probably ten years later, finished writing for more than thirty days, I think I’ve been writing straight now for 41 days.

I can feel, in my writing, and in my levels of focus, what this has done for me. I am writing the first draft of another novel right now, but this daily check in, this place for me to vent or plan or think in writing has helped so much. I don’t write my novel on here, but I do unload thoughts, I write quickly, and I sort out emotions on 750words.

This is one of the most positive and helpful sites on the Internet and it’s perfect for me. Thank you.

xxSerena A.

750 words help me to know myself better and clear my thoughts. It is actually better than meditation. It helps me to identify my negative thoughts, those are not identifiable in general thus help me to neutralize those thoughts and help me to stay positive. I am really grateful that I tried 750 words and i believe i will keep writing here. The best thing is whatever u write is private, password protected and can access anywhere which cannot be done when you write on your personal computer. I am thankful to 750 words innventors for giving me the platform to help myself.

A better mobile site

Sometimes writing on my phone is my best option during the day. The only way to do it even kind of well is to use voice-to-text, because typing keeps making it pop up to the top of the page, where I can’t see what I’m doing. I’d love the basic functionality of being able to track the text I’m on. Thanks!

I’ve been a member of this site for a very long time and I’m so grateful for it. While I don’t write every day, the times that I’ve come here are often about working through something that simply needs to be spelled out clearly on the page. At 750words.com I’ve worked through internal struggles, relationship issues, a job loss, and a number of other difficulties. It’s become a sacred space where I not only seek to resolve struggles, but also to explore, to create, and to develop ideas for that book I may write one day or that project that I keep thinking about. Thank you Kellianne and Buster for keeping the doors open here! It’s been a special place for me.

Title your days words

Have the option to add a title for the day’s words. So when viewing the notes archive some or all of your days will have labels. Useful if you write a block of inspired words you think you’ll revisit later.

I have had a 750 words account since 2012. In these preceding 7 years, every time i have felt the need to really think something through, or try to cement new habits, I have turned to 750words to write it down and make a written commitment to myself. I have never found so effective tool for helping sort out my scattered thoughts as 750words – so thank you for creating such an amazing tool!
