The Friends & Members of 750 Words
750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.
On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.
We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!
Who runs this site? Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time. Sign up or log in to buy Cups of Patronage |

I have spent the last two months trying to write every day so that I could indulge in the post-Challenge reward of mocking my friend, Zhan, who introduced me to 750 words. For two months now, though, I’ve been foiled – as if life is conspiring to mock me instead! But oh well, all’s good – I’m still happy to be a patron instead, and try again next month… (mock mock mock)

Today, I’m sitting on a 50 day streak. This site has literally changed my life, and I think I’m so addicted to it I can’t help myself but write everyday. Thank you Buster Benson for your dedication and this Aus-some site. The five friends I roped in to sign up to for the May Challenge have all dropped out by now, but I can’t wait to finally complete my first One Month Challenge!

Dear fellow 750 Worders, I’d like to write a short note, as a way of making myself accountable to you all. Half-way through the monthly challenge (of May) I moved from my student house, to my postgrad friend’s flat on the other side of town. She had left for the fortnight, and welcomed me to flat-sit whilst I revised in peace and quiet for my Finals. Alas, I completely forgot that she had no internet, and none of the surrounding cafes had wifi. So, with that, my second monthly challenge went flying down the drain (a slightly boozy, hazy day lost me my first month). I was, in honesty, gutted. I put it down to not getting enough badges as a child, but to miss out on the Horse of Awesomeness for ANOTHER month was… well. Disappointing. In retrospect, this project has helped my align myself in some way. From my pondering, I have concluded that, for me, it’s 20 minutes where everything has a single focus. I find ‘relaxing’ an awkward word, and I’m even worse at embracing it, so perhaps it’s the sense of achievement that comes from writing everything in my head (when we spend so much of our time not voicing our thoughts and ideas) with 750 Words, and receiving private recognition. I decided that I would continue writing. This time, accountable to myself alone, I would write offline in a little writing package. Nearly a fortnight later, and I have written something (if not the full 750 words) every day. I would like to encourage you all that, if for whatever reason you cannot access the internet, to still write your words and release your thoughts. The 50 days or so that Iâve been writing with 750 Words, and this offline period, has led me to realise Iâd like to begin to explore my imagination and, eventually, write a fiction novella. I have no characters, no scenario, but I have 750 Words; a free space to create and discard them and throw ideas around on the screen. The best of luck to you all and, wherever you are, enjoy the art of writing,

Badge Viewer
Maybe you have this hidden away somewhere that I haven’t found, but I would love to see a list of all the possible badges and what you need to do to get them. Personally, it’s easier for me to be motivated if I’m working towards something. And I love collecting those badges! :)

Vacation?
I’m not sure, but sometimes you need a vacation! I know—we’re all supposed to be connected 24/7 these days, but in fact, not everyone is. And truly, a few days or even a week offline can be good for the soul. Could one set his/her account to “on vacation” & not damage the stats?

You know, I started using this site as a bit of an experiment – to see if I could actually stick to writing every day – and it really has turned into one of the highlights of my day. Thanks, Buster, for creating this site – and congratulations on your new addition!

I have written every day for a while now and it feels good even though, oddly enough, the streak has coincided with a particularly dry period in my writing life. I just read another note by someone whose streak fell apart and I do wonder what it will be like for me when I fall off the wagon too. I hope that I can get back into it immediately and find the words I need. Maybe we should each have sponsors, AA style. Thank you, Buster for the site.

While this may sound negative in the outset understand that it’s meant to inspire, if not a little out of fear. I mean, I did py 4 bucks to write it to you so I can’t be that upset over the process :) So here it is, fair warning kind writers, missing a day is a punch in the gut. I started mid month and have been chugging along, wracking up points and feeling really good about the process. Yesterday I failed, yesterday I only wrote 250 words… my percentage went from 100% of the days I started I finished to 89% of the days I started I finished. It will never be 100% this month (God, I hope that % restarts in June as I believe it does). Theres no little dot beside the day in the THIS MONTH page. I’m pulling in points for a spare instead of a strike. If this were my one month challenge my name would be on the wall of shame. I would bet the number of people that start the One Month Challenge that miss a day probably stop all together – Buster would know better than I. While we can’t let such setbacks get to us and just keep on writing I will send forth this word of warning – beware! Missing a day can really take the wind out of your sails. It becomes a thorn in your side, a niggling reminder of a day you didn’t keep up you end of the bargain to yourself. So now I have to get back into the road to recovery, limp along trying to ignore the gaping wound I’ve created and hope I keep going on my journey without faltering long enough that the wound heals and I go back to my steady run. Good luck!

I’ve been using the site for over two months now, and I find it is a very helpful habit. It helps me to clear my head, to get down ideas that spring into my mind, to think about various things in my life, and it keeps me in the habit of writing, which makes it easier for me to write. I find I am also typing a bit faster, too. :-) I recommend this site to anyone, because I really believe there is absolutely no one who would not benefit greatly from coming here every day and pouring their thoughts out through the keyboard. Thanks for making it available.

I wanted to agree that I thought the word cloud should remove pronouns. Especially on introspective I would find it far more useful to see substantive words instead of I, me and my.
