The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

Writing quotes

I love reading quotes about writing! They make me realize that even the most famous, accomplished writers struggled at times, but that it was all worth while, and often that’s all I need to get me going. It would be nice if one of the types of notes that we can write would be dedicated to writing quotes. Maybe you could even feature a writing quote of the day. For instance, “The worst enemy of creativity is self-doubt.” -Sylvia Plath or
“The role of the writer is not to say what we all can say, but what we are unable to say.” -Anais Nin

What a gift! A month to sort out my thoughts every single morning. I have learned that doing something 3 or 4 days a week means that it gets put off and undone. Doing it every day is a gift and the challenge works for me!! THANK YOU, Buster. I love this and am so grateful to you for setting it up so beautifully.

I’m not only voting for an app for this site, but for www.healthmonth.com as well. It would be cool to be able to tally our efforts on our devices as well. Thanks Buster!

It’s all about simplicity here. You and the blank page. There is something about a blank screen that compels us to fill it. Buster has this down pat in a simple, easy to use format which inspires us to type our deepest thoughts. I would have never found this site had I not participated in www.healthmonth.com. Kudos to you Buster. As the owner of one of the most successful web design firms in Atlanta, I’ll be taking note of how the simple elegance of this site inspires us to actually use it. There’s a lesson for us web designers here. Write on!

Writing each day at 750 words is like visiting with a good friend! I can bounce ideas around, play with words and descriptions, and generally refresh my thoughts. I always feel a little lighter after I write, am always amused by the way my writing is ‘analyzed’, and am always ready to come back another day! Kudos to all those folk who have written for 100 + days – I hope to join your ranks some day!

I’m starting the year by writing my 750 words, and by promising myself that I will write every single day of the year. I’m now at a 14-day streak, after having successfully finished the November challenge but faltered during December. I am now switching from using my 750 words towards my book to using them for a personal diary, and I can feel already that I’m falling into a rhythm of writing that I quite like. Thanks Buster for the site, for such a beautifully designed and well executed tool.

Happy New Year to everyone!

Well I did it. I joined 750 words after reading the Lifehacker article on the first day of March. The response from the article was so great that I had to wait four days to get my invite. I wrote in MacJournal those first couple of days. Week long streaks were not uncommon for me. I’d put together a couple of single month streaks. And once I even managed to write for almost three straight months. But that was over five year ago.
Since joining the site I have written every single day for ten months now. I did lapse twice and only write 500 words in the end of October but I wrote. Sometime next week I’ll earn my 250,000 word badge. When I joined the site I thought that it was a gimmick that I didn’t really need. I had more than enough journalling software and books to write in. But you can’t argue with the results.
Thanks Buster and here’s to a perfect 2011.

This site is an amazing bit of work. I won NaNoWriMo this year with your help. The One Month Challenge keeps me crawling to the keyboard and digging down deep to find those 750 words each and every day.

Thanks for all you do! (hoists her cup, drinks deep)

Ability to adjust the daily deadline

People have different schedules, maybe work at night, etc. and sometimes it would be better to have the deadline for the day to be sometime in the wee hours or in the afternoon, not at midnight. It would be nice to be able to adjust it.

Android App

I really need that app, because the page doesn’t work with my mobile phone (I can watch it, but not write).
I’m using trains and busses to get to work and back home, so I’ve got a lot of time to write then. Would be great if I could do my 750 duty with my phone ^^

ps: If you know an android browser which makes it possible to write without an app, please let me know.

This site is fantastic. I’ve taught Julia Cameron’s “The Artist’s Way”, and have seen the power of Morning Pages work to transform a group of people from uncertain and self-doubting to powerfully creative.

Even further, I’ve committed to reducing the amount of paper I use, and as an artist and writer this can sometimes feel like severing a limb. 750words.com makes my morning journaling not only green, but a fun adventure shared with other creative souls.

Thank you, Buster, for creating a wonderful space.

I feel very fortunate to have come across 750 Words. I love the simplicity of the idea and of the interface. I’ve always bought lovely journals, and have at times filled them to the brim. I’m happy to have those in a box in my basement, but frankly, I can type faster than I can write so I would often neglect my handwritten journals for the computer anyway. I love sitting down at my laptop and letting go of whatever’s in my head. It takes about 10 minutes and I feel refreshed afterward, like my brain has taken a shower. Sometimes I even understand something better than I did before. Thanks, Buster, for such a great idea and lovely execution.
