The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

I liked the idea of the person that said it would be great to get an SMS message if you’re about to miss a day of writing. Except, if this was an app, it would need to be for Android too! Not just iPhone!

Again, I can’t say enough about how thankful I am for this site! It has helped me be the writer I have always wanted to be—consistantly writing every day!

SMS Alerts for when you are about to miss a day

I’ve missed a day here and there because the morning reminder email was too far removed and I’d forgotten by evening. If the site texted me at a settable time (say 10PM or something) if I have not written so I cannot forget, that would be incredibly useful.

Not sure about an iPhone app as it’s a pretty poor writing environment (unless you pair a bluetooth keyboard) but an iPad environment would be excellent.

I recently gave up Facebook and put 750words in its place. I honestly believe I’m a happier person now, and that writing every day is making me a better person.

More badges for accomplishments

I’m definitely an externally motivated person and I’d love to see the badges continue to amass (to continue to give me something to strive for.)

I’m a struggling college student (in more ways than one) and writing nightly has helped me deal with the struggles I’m facing in my daily life. (I used to have a therapist I saw weekly. Now I kvetch in my words and work through my problems visually, which works amazingly well for me.)

Of course, the badges help make the practice extra fun. (I’m challenging myself to write more than 750 words a day so I can get to my flock badge faster. :) )

Thanks, Buster!

Writing every day for ONE Month now on March, has helped me to improve my writing, finding my style and my typing and it is like therapy, it also calms me down…. It is like listening to myself a lot better, by listening to my mind Thanks

After 160 days straight, I had to miss a day due to a power cut, meaning I plummeted back down to 0 – but Buster soon fixed that for me, and here I am back a the top. Thank you so much for that, and for the site as a whole, Buster!

These past couple of months, I have been going through my first truly heart-wrenching breakup. 750 words has been my diary and trust-worthy companion throughout. 750 words every day for the past two months is easy as pie. You can do it!!

I would suggest badges for 1/2 million (3X flock), 1 million (4x flock), and 5 million words (All the birds in the world)

I use 750 to help me work on my creative writing every night. The analysis is a fun, no-pressure feed back. It encourages me to write without making me feel like I’m having my writing examined before it’s ready. Great stuff!

Might be fun to have a badge for going above and beyond your 750 minimum a few days.

Did you know that since I started 750words.com, I have increased my writing output by a bajillion? It may seem like a gross exaggeration, but the truth is this: without this site, I probably wouldn’t have come up with ideas for the poems and stories that I write.
This site is amazing. I love how I don’t even need the badges to motivate me anymore (although they are nice!). What a great site. Thanks Buster!

I’m a procrastinating waster full of excuses and forever planning to do great things once I’ve got everything in place. That never happens, I beat myself up, vow to take action and then I just do the same thing all over again…… but, something weird has happened, I found this strange little website and somehow someway I’ve written 750 words every single day for over a month now. I always said that one day I would get in the habit of writing everyday and now it seems I have. Maybe, just maybe I’m not such a procrastinating waster after all. It’s April 1st but Busters no fool, he’s some kind of genius. Thank you.

I have just successfully finished my first One-Month-Challenge and I have a promise to keep that I made to myself. While I said I would treat myself to dinner at a french restaraunt I’ve been dying to try if I finished the challenge, I said if I didn’t I would donate five dollars to 750 words. Well, I’m donating eight, as a debt of gratitude. If it weren’t for the encouragement of this site, I would not have begun to write every day. I would still be writing whenever the mood hit me, or inspiration struck. That’s no way to practice. A good writer shouldn’t write sporadically. It took me six years to finish a first draft novel writing sporadically, and now I’m two thousand words into a new project. Why? Because it’s everyday! Every single day, I make sure that I’m at my computer writing even if it’s nothing more than rambling, which let’s face it sometimes is going to be. But every now and then, I’ll babble my way into a good piece, and then 750 words later I don’t want to stop. That’s what this site has done for me, and I couldn’t be more appreciative. I’ve never felt more like a writer than I do now, able to say I have written 750 words everyday this month. Thank you, buster. This site is the best!

Today, I reached two landmarks in my personal 750 Words history: I finished one year of writing on the site and I have written just over 300,000 words in that time. Yay for me! ;o) And when that critical little voice comes up and tells me what an undisciplined person I am, I can point to my landmarks and say “Na na na na na, that’s not true!” Thanks, Buster!

I have been writing these words for approximately eight months. At first I took the challenge and wrote every day, until I got all the bagdes I wanted. After that I loosened up and started writing when I needed it or felt like it. This means I’m mostly an egg nowadays, but that’s okay with me :-D

I enjoy the words, because they support both my creative processes and my preference to be in flow. Writing cleans my mind, brings my truth to the surface, allows me to work through problems, allows me to appreciate what I have and am.

This page has brought so much good to my life, a sustained kind of creativity and a sense of being creative in a community.

Yesterday I got my double flock badge, and this morning I am a pterodactyl! Tomorrow I will complete another month challenge! Who would have guessed virtual badges could be so motivating?
750words has turned me into a regular writer. I never think about whether to write or what I’ll write – I only think about when. Thanks Buster!

I could never get in the habit of writing every day until I found 750 words—and all because I get neat little badges and a check mark every day!
Thanks you!

I am so thankful to 750words. Over the past few days it has revolutionized not only my ability to clear my mind, or focus on a particular subject, but the phenomenal direction that it gives my days. Who would’ve known that by disciplining myself like this I would have more focused energy for wherever I was going to apply myself later.
I am now encouraging every slightly creative person, every writer, and every person I am close to to use 750words.
Thank you so much for this great gift!
