The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

Wow! I never thought I would finish my last novel but I did AND I have started another one plus the second half of my Auto Biography. Plus I have now written 25 Articles on Wizzley. And to think, when I started 750 I was suffering from Writers’ Block! Thank you Buster and 750 Words.

More badges for accomplishments

For whatever reason, the badges motivate me….to write more words, to avoid distractions, to write quickly, etc. However, even though I’m trying to maintain my no distraction streak and my under 20 minute streak, I noticed that once I got my badges for those, I don’t get any more. I’d love to see badges that encourage those streaks—like starting off with a 10 day badge for no distractions, next badge at 30, next one at 90, etc. I like the challenge it gives me and would love to have that little bit of extra motivation for each of the different challenges. Regardless, though, it’s still an amazing and helpful site. Thanks, Buster!

Never feel that what you’re doing isn’t worthwhile or of value. It is, always.

There’s always something going through your mind that needs to get out. You never have nothing on your mind. There’s always something going on around you that you can type about. Whatever is going on in your life can be processed here. Whatever your day was like, you can lay it out here. Don’t be creative. Whatever you think you’re not good with will be honed and shaped and will come out naturally. Just focus on getting your thoughts out. Nobody will see them anyway. Don’t try to impress yourself with creativity yet. Just crank out 750 words first then worry about the rest later.

I just finished my September challenge with flying colours! Granted there were some times where I was forcing myself to type at the last second and wanted to throw my computer out the window… but mainly I just feel proud of myself! I’ve been able to do something regularly, every day for two months now. It might not seem like much to others, but for someone like me who is better at forming bad habits then good, being able to say I’ve done something every day is a real achievement. I feel accomplished, I feel productive and most of all, I feel proud of myself. I hope that everyone using 750 Words can share in those feelings.

I’m back. After slacking off for the past few months. Ready to embark on another Monthly Challenge. One way of making a promise to myself, one way to make it just a bit harder to avoid doing what I say I want, which is to be a writer.

Just finished the September Challenge! I can’t remember the last time I did something productive and creative for 30 days in a row. This has been a huge boost to my confidence. Thank you, a million times over, Buster, for creating this site.

Thank you so much for building this site. Sometimes I prefer the hand-cramping slowness of pen and paper (it’s a different challenge to have my hand keep up with my mind, instead of vice versa), but 750words increases my chances of doing morning pages exponentially. It’s an honor to buy you a cup of coffee.

I owe Mario three cups for every time he bailed me out. I write my pages long-hand, but like the accountability of 750words.com. My internet went out twice and once I forgot to upload my ‘words’ (“morning pages” copied 750 times!) even though I’d written them that day. Mario was so helpful. Thank you Mario! In October – no bail outs. If I forget, I forget. Love writing everyday. Thank you!

750 words has broadened my mind. Thank you so much, Buster. I’m on an 80 day streak at the moment and I just finished the September 1 month Challenge. I am so proud of myself and I couldn’t have done it without you. Without being modest, I see myself as one of the maturer 16 year old girls, and I believe 750 has helped me grow and become the girl I am today. Thank you.

750 words has helped me focus, hunker down and get centered. Something about writing everyday and earning those badges just compels me to write. I love this site. As another patron wrote with 750 words who needs therapy.

I have been writing since March 1st on a streak, & Feel so blessed.
211 day streak, even myself can not believe it.
My English has improved and now when I have not written on any morning for any cause my fingers really need it, and I start feeling I need to do it. It is such a nice feeling to need the practice and usually it only takes me 15 or 18 minutes of my Lunch time at the office. Thanks Buster

This is a great place to purge. I’ve been here for 148 days and I’m still loving it. I’ve written unsent letters, ideas for novels, confessions and all sorts of things. Who needs a therapist?

I didn’t know that cups went also to charity, and letting us to increase the percentage that goes there is just another prove about how awesome this site is in all aspects I can think about.

I know when I haven’t been on 750 Words in awhile. Aside from the daily reminder emails, I feel congested. I feel all this “stuff” built up, questions and thoughts and unresolved ruminations, swirling in my mind. Then I return to 750 Words and let it all out. Things you can’t say to someone, things you wish you could say to someone, things you need to say to yourself. It all comes out and you feel cleansed, rejuvenated and able to make sense of it all. Thank you, 750 Words, for always being there.

This site was suggested to me by a good writer friend of mine. Using Livejournal or social networks never quite worked for some of the writing I wanted to do. Always verbose, I always have something to say, and now I can feed my ego and psychoanalyze myself by writing whatever craziness comes out of my noodle. The word counter, always pushing to make it green, always striving for higher WPMs and seeing yet another entry without a distraction, or even trying to write in under ten minutes…it helps. When I have a thought stuck in my head and it won’t come out; I come here, and it’s like magic. I focus less on whatever is on my mind and more about just getting words out and achieving a goal (I’m a determined, goal-oriented person), and I get both done. Over the summer I was incredibly busy and went an entire month or more without writing, but now I shall be striving for more streak badges. The turquoise horse is a nice pet, but I’d like to add to the menagerie. Thanks, Buster! This site has truly changed a lot for me. If I can write 750 words every day for a month; imagine what else I can do?!

My book is coming along already! This site provides the structure and balance I needed to help me stay interested in writing every day and let’s me know when I’m focusing too much on the visual and not enough touch in my descriptions. Thanks Buster!!

This week my words were categorized as self-expressive for the first time. This was a big turning point for me – I had spent time staring at this part of the pie wondering how I could increase the percentage! I’m also almost always in the thinking zone and I want so badly to be in the feeling zone more often.

I’m much calmer after finishing my first 30 day challenge. The way I feel about myself has gotten much healthier and I think that I see some of my self-limiting thoughts more clearly now.

Thanks to you Buster, for coming up with such a heart-felt and simple to use application!
