The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

I’ve had all sorts of grand aspirations for my new year’s resolutions in the past—lose the weight, love and learn, find inner peace, etc. This year, however, I decided I was going to write every day, and a friend turned me onto 750words.com. I’ve never had more fun—or had an easier time—of keeping a new year’s resolution. The nudge emails, badges and monthly challenges are incredibly motivating, and I’ve started to look forward to my writing time. I know now it’s possible for me to make room every day for a little creativity in my life. Hopefully in a few months I’ll be writing another note to thank 750words.com for helping me finish my novel. Thanks, Buster!

I loved doing the one month challenge! As something who has several writing projects going (and recently got diagnosed with ADD) the challenge was great in getting me focused in the morning, then ready to embrace what needed to get done writing wise for the day. Even if you end up on the wall of shame, there’s always redemption the next month. Hats off to the challenges!

I’ve done Morning Pages before but since I have a learning disability with my handwriting it was hard to read my handwriting afterwards. 750 words helps me make sense of what I say afterwards, plus it’s great to go back and make sense of a difficult situation and how to get out of it.

The idea behind 750words is simple genius. For years I’ve longed to sharpen my writing skills but always found my self too busy to make writing a part of my daily life. That changed when I tripped across the site. Now when I miss a day of writing, I miss a part of me. The habit of daily writing has opened a powerful path to self-discovery. This neat little package combines personal challenge and reward using a fun approach. My writing and my life are improving because of it.

New "Badges earned recently" section

I’m recently returned to 750words.com and I’ve already earnt many of the badges before, which demotivates me for about the first 50 days.

How about keeping all the badges I’ve earnt in a “lifetime badge” section, and have a new “badges earnt in the last three months” section, so causing my badges to “reset” and allow me to earn the small ones again as I return to the site?

I’m recently returned to 750words.com after a long absence. I’d love to have the motivation to have more badges of different types to earn!

Offline version of 750words.com

Would love to be able to come to 750words.com and write my journal entry without being online, then have it sync once I get back online. You should be able to accomplish this kind of functionality in HTML 5, I believe. For eg: http://gearsblog.blogspot.com/2011/03/stopping-gears.html

I don’t know if this is the right topic, but I have no way of signing in when I am not at home because I don’t remember my log on or password through google and this site, and I am afraid I could easily lose it all.

Having just hit the 500 day mark, I thought I should mark it by writing a note to say how much I enjoy using 750words.com. Thank You Buster for a fantastic resource and a very beautiful site, it has helped me keep track of my crazy life in a time of huge change. I would recommend it to everyone!
Cheers
Ken

I love that we get our points based on our 750, and after that it looks like we get credit for words but not discredited for breaks. This works for me since I love coming back to 750 any time I have an idea for an article or post or whatever. With 750 it’s all in one place instead of scattered in several programs across ’puter, iPad and iPhone :). Kudos, again, to 750.

I broke my streak on December since I was at a place with no internet, too bad.. and I know I can recuperate my streak now in January and Feb… it was a long 286 days since March 2011 until December 12th 2011…
I feel good about writing again now in January and start over… What I have kept is the total number of words since I started in Dec 2010,, and it is over 300,000 words,, and I still have many badges, which is good.. so I will just keep on going…

I’d like to see a new “streak” badge, or an updated date on the “streak” badges I already have. For example, if I have a 3-day streak badge for November, if I blew it and lost the streak, I’d like another one when my streak starts over. I hope that makes sense… I find the badges to be very encouraging and motivating!

750 Words has taught me to sit down and write, even if I don’t work on my story. The act of sitting and getting it done and forming the habit will carry on throughout the rest of the year and maybe even translate to other areas of my life.

I love this site and I’m so glad I found it!

I love the badges, too! :) I strive to be a Space Bird.

I’d like to pay tribute to the 750 Words “word cloud,” that alphabetized list that appears in our stats page. Today, mine read like pure poetry: “because bra can’t computer didn’t.” There was more, of course, but I’m saving that. There’s a story in there, somewhere, and that’s the real genius of this place.

This is the perfect way for establishing a habit. I write although I don’t want to, I write although I am too lazy, I write even if my mind seems empty at first.
The experience you will get is: once you engage in an activity which seems impossible at first, you will see things differently in the process.
I almost wish there were another applications like this for running, reading, studying etc. But the lessons you learn simply by continous writing are precious enough.
So, write and learn! And praise Buster. ;)

My friend keeps reminding me that I should be faithful to this idea – writing here every day. tonight I did 751 in 19 minutes….it was one of those days I guess. Saying all the things I wanted to into the ether was good for the soul. Thanks J. Good idea.

I used to work on short task descriptions – mostly lists, mind maps, tasks in TO-DO’s and similar. They were only empty bullet points, that made my head keeping all the associated emotions, feelings and pictures.
It was supposed to be effective… Was supposed to wake my mind up and inspire it for more achievement and focus. It gave me fuzzy mind, lots of unfinished ideas in my noisy mind and all distractions thinkable to man… I hate this faze of my life… I feel like I constrained myself for over 10 years of forced, emotionless planning.

It all changed when I heard Jim Rohn and his speech about a JOURNAL. I listened to it tens of times… Then it was business as usual – I bought a fancy journal, even fancier pen and… did nothing, because I was afraid to use it and was always busy, busy, busy…

I saw 750words for the first time in autumn and I instantly loved it. Pity I was waiting to join my first monthly challenge until January… I could’ve done so much more in the meantime… ;)

Good luck to all of you who rediscover thinking on journal-paper – even when it’s not the real one, but only bits of encrypted data… ;) Good luck my friends!

I’ve done the Artist’s Way series multiple times and once I got the hang of doing morning pages, this has been a great transition to keeping up that habit.
