The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our son Niko, and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

750Words.com is a verified depression killer. Once you clear your mind and practice some typing meditation, your whole world brightens.

Speaking of books, I really like The Organized Mind by Daniel Levitin. 750 words has helped me organize my naturally-very-messy mind for more than 3 years now. I value the way 750 words helps me to clear my mind of “things to remember” (because writing them down here means I can access them later.) It also provides a low-risk space for writing quick drafts of plans, emails, even the occasional poem or essay. Not being distracted by formatting choices makes the transition from thought to writing much quicker, at least for me. I am proud to be a patron and encourage others to sign up if you haven’t already to support this good website. Thanks so much for 750 words!

every year for the last fifteen years i have had a hard time staying centered and positive from September through the holidays. fifteen years ago i lost my teen aged daughter, whose birthday is in September. that would start it, then the family-oriented holidays would come and i’d be in the therapist’s office trying to find my center. this year has been different. i have written morning pages 170 days as of today and this year i am not a basket case during this challenging time of year. and i even lost my (really my daughter’s) 18-year old cat in the middle of a major move — last month. my point is, i think morning pages is having a profound impact on my life — on my outlook — and i am so grateful. next up? getting back to my novel writing. morning pages… i’m asking a lot of you!!! so grateful for this site that makes it easy and fun to do this work. thank you!!!

After doggedly pursuing an uninterrupted year long string of days on 750words.com, I was led to participate in the NaNoWriMo challenge. I thought it was an unrealistic goal at first, but the disciplines I developed on this site led me to believe it was possible. I achieved the requisite minimum of 50,000 words on Day 23, and I pushed on to accumulate over 66,000 words by Day 30.

So pleased am I with the result that I may avail myself of further opportunities in January and February to revise and edit the product. It turns out that even though I brought my offering to a clumsy and awkward conclusion, I really regard it as only half complete. Call it Part 1. So, thank you to Kellianne and Buster and others who have worked to construct and maintain this site. I look forward to lots more words.

Writing on 750 Words has definitely aided in my spiritual growth! It is nice to look back at my progress. I’m also becoming a better writer and I am considering using the material I’ve written to help write my memoirs. This site is wonderful. Thank you!

It would be cool to get a badge for length of patronage. Maybe give them out per year.

It would be kind of cool if we could choose entries to share via social media or hyperlink. Maybe after an entry has been on the site for 6 months or a year, the share option would become available.

I have always loved creative writing, but I am a scientist which is a very different type of writing. I signed up for 750words to force myself to free-write daily and could not be happier with my decision. Although I wasn’t ready to prepare a full novel in November for NaNoWriMo, 750words gave me the courage to start a novel which I am working on now. I am so excited to finally be doing something that was just a dream 7 years ago!

Thank you so much for creating this site. I used to write almost religiously every day, but since I graduated college and started working full time it’s become a challenge for me to set that time aside. 750 Words has given me the motivation and encouragement I needed to start this habit again, and I’m so grateful for it. Thank you!

Improve the patronage features

I would love an easier way to share my writing with others. Ideally, it would be fun to create communities within the community, so that I could have a group of people who could view my content and I could view theirs etc… Love the site, thank you for your work.

Hello! I wrote my 50,000 words in November for NaNoWriMo this year but didn’t see my limited edition badge. Wondering if there is one for 2016? I did break my streak during the month so maybe missing a day was the problem? Would love to know.

More badges for everybody!

Dear Buster and Kellianne, your current badges are so inspiring. Surely even more badges would be even more inspiring? I just recently got a Space Squirrel badge. Is there nothing left for me to hope for? Maybe a Bullwinkly badge for 2000 days in a row? Thanks for the inspiration you already gave me. xxxx Betsy

I would love something like this! It would be cool to be able to continue some of the badges like the Turquoise Horse that are a little more challenging to get in the first place. I hope they do a NaNo 2016 also for this year.

It’s a daily challenge to be here and write. I never know what to say. And I always fill it up. the funnest part is looking at the metadata. As I type, I really don’t think about my thinking. The summary is awesome. My favorite part for sure.

I’ve been doing morning pages since the 80’s and it’s always off and on. I’m so grateful to my mother for getting me to take typing lessons in Junior High so when I started writing three pages with a keyboard it didn’t detract from my process. This site was a treat to discover and in the early days, glitches would sometimes cause problems, but when I wrote longhand sometimes I’d lose an entire book and that would really throw me off. I worked on a movie with Mark Harmon and he gave all the crew backpacks which was great, except the top was a loose fitting strap down affair and my notebook flew out while I was running for the bus once. I believe it rained for days afterwards and retracing my steps did not turn up the record of all my ideas, doodles…etc. Hey, there’s an idea. A function to allow doodling on the page along with the writing. Then it would be much like the long hand process. I love all the restrictions on this site. I also love the freedom and the information it provides. My father recently died and looking at my stats not surprisingly my outlook has been negative and I have been thinking about death. Knowing that is useful when I shift from doing my purge of words to dealing with others. Thank you 750 words. When I started, paying for anything was difficult. I had been gifted old computers from friends who had money, and my access to the internet was something I could barely cover. So, today, here’s to you and more to come.

These days it’s a bit hard to keep my head above the water. Starting a new business is never easy. My morning writing habit is an anchor in my life for more than 400 days now. When I try to imagine my life without writing every day, I get scared, and block this notion completely.

New Streak Badge

We get a badge for completing one monthly challenge. How about a badge for completing a streak of 10 monthly challenges in a row? It’s a badge that’s as achievable as the Pegasus (10 months < 365 days) and encourages those working to earn the Turquoise Horse to continue entering the monthly challenges.

I’d be willing to pay a few more bucks a month for a secure server, plus any other security features that seem reasonable, apart from a password. I’d really like to continue using this site as a place where I don’t have to self-censor on the off chance of its being hacked. Thanks!

A rose of a different hue. . .

The daily rose for completing the writing on time. . .any chance it can switch colors depending on how often you write, time of month, season, etc? Love the pic, would just love to see variety or strive to achieve a ‘silver rose’ or a golden one at the end of every month.

Regardless, awesome site, fantastic creators, and a much needed outlet for my creative spark. I am grateful!

Amazingly, I’ve just finished writing on my 1400th day on 750 Words. Today the word count was 2220. I cannot express how much of a treasured activity the reporting out at the end of my day has become. I am eternally grateful to Buster and Kellianne for this site—and to all of you anonymous souls who write along side me here. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Peace and blessings.
