The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our son Niko, and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

A list of subjects to write about

When you do not know what to write about and you did nothing worth being remembered on that day, you can pick up a question in a list such as this one : http://www.marcandangel.com/2011/03/14/365-thought-provoking-questions-to-ask-yourself-this-year/

More badges for accomplishments

Inspiration and joy out of this process always motivate for something even more. And I can say that badges is one of the greatest motivational tools. Especially that are well deserved. Yes! More badges for accomplishments, even more difficult to earn and delightful to receive.

Keep doing what you do really believe in. Even despite the fact that others will let you down and even you will doubt, that’s OK. Just wanted to say, never give up! And this site helped me to stay inspired. And the fact that one can get bonuses and different kinds of badges, along with Cups of Patronage makes it all even more valuable and pleasant to follow.

Thanks so much for 750 words, Buster. Ever since I discovered this site, a little over a month and a half ago thanks to WORLD magazine, my writing habits have improved immensely. The badges make great motivators, but the true joy comes from knowing that I’m finally writing consistently instead of procrastinating. It has helped me to clear my mind when frustrated, to pour out my ideas when I’m feeling creative, to focus the thoughts for my latest research paper.

Thank you. :)

Having a specific badge as a goal is very motivating for me. Would like to see some badges between the Albatross and the Phoenix, or even more details on the behavior badges like how many days and from what times of day it takes to get the Bat or Rooster. Thank you!

I stopped regularly a year ago, and the ideas in my head just kept building up. No longer can I now make excuses to put off getting these ideas down in words. I’ve tried writing in various places before – as notes on Facebook, as blog posts, as scribbles on sheets of lined paper tucked in long-forgotten places in my house – but there was barely a nag of motivation to drive my writing, and I had months-long lulls of no output. Here, I can force myself to write, no matter what the subject may be, and it seems to be helping me get over grumpy morning moods.

Granted, 750 words are a lot, and I had always feared that hitting the threshold for the day was going to be impossible. But sometimes, when you hit a barrier, and you just push a little bit past it, the road rolls smoothly…

I hold a cup up to you, 750words.com, and give a toast for your help. And there will be more cups to come. Cheers!

It’s funny; my girlfriend started writing here way before i did, and I did join, wrote for a couple of days and then stopped for quite some time. I am now doing this on a daily basis, and while at first it was kind of sloppy, now it is getting better

Badges are fabulous motivation, and it’s funny what they can do for you to keep on going when sometimes you don’t want to. It has also helped me to fix some problems with myself or sometimes others, and definitely making me feel better. So I really appreciate what you have done, Buster, like many have said before. Simple things can do big wonders for most of us.

An iPhone/iPad app

I liked the idea of the person that said it would be great to get an SMS message if you’re about to miss a day of writing. Except, if this was an app, it would need to be for Android too! Not just iPhone!

SMS Alerts for when you are about to miss a day

I’ve missed a day here and there because the morning reminder email was too far removed and I’d forgotten by evening. If the site texted me at a settable time (say 10PM or something) if I have not written so I cannot forget, that would be incredibly useful.

Not sure about an iPhone app as it’s a pretty poor writing environment (unless you pair a bluetooth keyboard) but an iPad environment would be excellent.

I recently gave up Facebook and put 750words in its place. I honestly believe I’m a happier person now, and that writing every day is making me a better person.

I’m definitely an externally motivated person and I’d love to see the badges continue to amass (to continue to give me something to strive for.)

I’m a struggling college student (in more ways than one) and writing nightly has helped me deal with the struggles I’m facing in my daily life. (I used to have a therapist I saw weekly. Now I kvetch in my words and work through my problems visually, which works amazingly well for me.)

Of course, the badges help make the practice extra fun. (I’m challenging myself to write more than 750 words a day so I can get to my flock badge faster. :) )

Thanks, Buster!

After 160 days straight, I had to miss a day due to a power cut, meaning I plummeted back down to 0 – but Buster soon fixed that for me, and here I am back a the top. Thank you so much for that, and for the site as a whole, Buster!

These past couple of months, I have been going through my first truly heart-wrenching breakup. 750 words has been my diary and trust-worthy companion throughout. 750 words every day for the past two months is easy as pie. You can do it!!
