The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

Today is my one year anniversary of writing here. I don’t know how many total days I’ve missed in the past year, but it has not been many. The more important perspective is that I’ve written at least 750 words almost every day for a WHOLE YEAR! Best habit I’ve ever developed. Thank you, Buster.

I have always wanted to have a good writing practice, but until I found 750words.com I never seemed to have the discipline to be consistent. The straightforward layout makes it easy for me to get in and write, and the badges inspire me to keep going. Thanks so much to Buster for creating this site!

I wish good luck to the competitors that will complete the one month challenge and i salute the individuals who have completed monthly challenges in succession.

When I write, my head is cleared. I get it out and down and it does take a while… in my experience, about 3 weeks of rambling like a fool. Then… magic. The stories begin to flow, they come out and they are off the cuff and the potential energy of them explodes onto the page. I don’t know what they will say, but they are always profound.

Always.

It’s a light that keeps shining, and I’ve been blinded. Thanks, 750words.com.

Today is the 800th day of my present streak. I’m still sitting with this thought, savouring it as I drink it in. I’m pleased with myself for having created a daily writing practise that I’ve remained committed to for such a long time. This is many thanks to Buster and the 750 Words site. Thank you for the nudges, the badges and the continued inspiration and dedication to help us all keep going!

I have done NaNoWrmo since 2006, and am doing it this year again. Because of that, I did not sign up for the monthly challenge, but I am still posting daily-via my writing for NaNo. But the most extraordinary thing is that I am not only able to keep up easily this year with NaNo, I am able to exceed my daily needed writing, and I am doing it in a wonderful frame of mind, and first thing in the morning. And am fully enjoying doing NaNo. I have found a piece of myself in all this. Maybe there is a writer in me after all is said and done. Thank you for this wonderful site, as this is the one big difference in what I am doing this year over years past.

The most crucial aspect of growing as a writer lies in getting words out of your brain and onto paper. Frustratingly enough, the most difficult aspect of growing as a writer also lies in getting words out of your brain and onto paper—finding a rhythm and the will to begin can be an excruciating task, but begin we must. We’re writers. We live to share the landscapes of our imaginations. Beginning is the key to sharing our internal machinations with the world.

This website doesn’t ask for much. 750 words a day isn’t a dissertation. If there’s any place for a writer to pen their first beginnings, this is the place to do it. Motivation is built into this website’s coding. With any luck that motivation might find its home in you. I know it’s managed to coax quite a few beginnings (and middles and ends) out of me.

Conceptually exciting and probably going to be effective. I shall share my intentions with the neighborhood cats as they come to my deck to find the morning sun, and get their opinions and hopefully, good wishes. Nice! Namaste all.

I love this site and would like to follow people but I don’t know anyone, so if you would like a follower, follow me! It will help keep me motivated . Thanks!

Improve the daily reminder email

I loved the excerpts from patron testimonial notes that used to be at the end of the daily reminder email. Gone for the last week, they are sorely missed. I always hoped to see one of mine there, just as I always hoped to see my name on the list of the writers of the day, but never got either wish to come true. But still would like to see what others are saying; writing is a lonely business.

This site has been wonderful for getting me to write regularly. At first it was difficult, but the second time I tried the monthly challenge I succeeded and now I hope I will keep going! The writing keeps me sane, helps me reflect on my day, and I also use it sometimes to get away from other distractions and write my assignments for school. Thanks Buster!

Reminder

There should be a writing-reminder via email.
I wrote over 1800 words yesterday, but forgot to copy and paste them here. Now the system says I’ve lost the challenge although I didn’t :-(
So, at the end of the month (if I won’t fail for real) I WILL treat myself with the winning bonus, no matter what 750words says. But it’s still sad that I will end on the wall of shame :-(

I was that kid in high-school that got by. I regret not learning the English language as best as I could. I’ve gone through High School, graduated, and started my own company. I love this website and I love what this charity is doing. Rock on.

Wow. Since being directed to this site by a blog post three days ago I’ve been a religious user. As I’m trudging through writing a screenplay this has been an excellent resource to help me clear my head and get in the mode to write. Thank you for a wonderful site!

Casting my vote to further improve the site by adding the ability to italicize, underline, and/or make bold-face fonts. Could we also, perhaps, add a title bar? Thanks!

I always feel better after I’ve vented a bit here at 750words. I find this to be a wonderful site for sorting my mind and helping keep my thoughts straight. LOVE the new weather feature too.

25 days until 365—one whole year. And determined to get NaNoWriMo badge! This writing alcove has been the best writing coach ever and the achievement part helps me weather the hives over the the clunky parts of the site. So glad 750words is popular—means it will keep being there for me—for all of us!

I’m using this site for my NaNoWriMo novel, and it really helps clearing your mind and finding flaws and mistakes and things that simply don’t work. It has become my writing diary.
