The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

I’m so glad I found this website! I’m in a transition right now—just graduated from college and am getting married soon—so it’s been great to journal during this time and reflect on these life changes. Most days I just type about what I did during the day; sometimes I work through more complex topics on my mind. Either way it’s a good daily exercise and I love feeling like I’m accomplishing this goal to write everyday! I’ve written over 60 days straight now and I’m pushing towards that phoenix badge!

More badges for accomplishments

I am totally motivated by the badges—even though I know they are silly. In particular, I’d love to get a badge every time I complete a one-month challenge, even if it’s the same badge. Milestone badges would be great too—am just about to reach the 200 days in a row, and am wondering what happens after you get to 500? Badges are easy goals and really do work to motivate, so more of them would be cool. Thanks, love the site!

There are mornings when the last thing I want to do is write my words, and usually those are the mornings that I most need to. I can start off with a big whiny rant about anything and everything, and within a few hundred words I will already be feeling more even keel and ready to face the day. This has been a great tool for me. Thanks!

Could we have a counter on the turquoise horse for evey time we successfully complete the monthly challenge?

To have a counter on or next to the Horse Badge and it would go up every time the writer completes the challenge. If they sign up but do not complete the month – long streak, they ‘only’ have their name on the wall of shame. The number on the badge either stays the same or goes up. No losses possible, but forward movement requires commitment :)

How could I NOT donate to 826 Seattle? Their website sports a clean interface and hip graphic design that has probably already won some award in Communicate Arts. THIS is the website I want to get reincarnated as.

More badges for accomplishments

I’m for more badges in-between the long stretches. Yes, there’s merit in having the high-value badges, but when the only reward for awhile is an increasing number (which is still lovely), the desire to continue dwindles.

Multilanguage interface for 750words.com

The interface of 750Words is now available only in English, which reduces the number of potential writers. Speakers of other languages could well create volunteer translation groups and discuss possible translations so as to provide funny and friendly interface for other writers from their countries! Personnally, I’m ready to take up the Russian translation group if there are other volunteers ready to join me. What do you think?

Tab Key

I’m sure there’s a technical reason why there’s no TAB key, but I’m not sure that’s good enough. It would be super nice to seperate my paragraphs with a breakline and a tab, rather than having to use two breaklines all the time….

Amazingly, I’ve written on this site off and on for over two years, amassed more than 300,000 words and seen my self grow as a writer. Here’s to taking up the gauntlet again.

Thank you so, so much Buster, for still being here.

I love the badge and point system on 750words. It’s the reason I joined up to motivate my writing routine. I’d love to see more and more badges. Ones for mood, profanity counts (as well as counts for other subjects/words), and badges that you can gain from a new objective/goal system. The monthly challenge is great, but I joined up on the 2nd of the month so I can’t participate until September. I’d love it if the site had other goals that you could choose to attempt and achieve. You’d receive a special badge, be able to try and achieve one objective at a time, and if you failed you’d have to wait a week or something until you can try again.
Here’s to you everyone on 750words!

In September 2010 I moved to Canada and an important relationship was on the outs. Writing out all the monkey chatter in my brain every morning at 750words.com kept me sane during that rough period, and is still invaluable today!

When I’m away, this would be particularly useful in keeping my streak going. Yes, I know I can take a vacation, but it’s the getting it done that is the important thing.

Today makes 500 days of consecutive writing, wow! I am incredibly grateful for all of what this site has allowed me to do… from almost completing my first book to self-help with journaling about my mothers death. This site is incredibly powerful. Anything, yes anything, is possible. So heres to Buster and 750words.com; lets toast to 18 delicious cups of coffee!

Last month, I resorted to so much “time travel” to keep up my streak for the monthly challenge that I feel kind of guilty about it, so I’m throwing back most of my cups from past challenges back into the pool while I sit out for a few months to break this bad habit. Good luck to everyone! Don’t wait until 5 AM the next day to paste your words in from offline writing projects like I do!

Twice Daily Writings

I’d like to get into the habit of writing pages once in the morning and once in the evening. It’d be great if I could split these into two different sets (especially for purposes of tracking/stats/etc.) rather than have it be one large piece of writing separated by a many hour gap. Perhaps it would be set up as an option in user settings, or even just a bit of metadata one could put in their writing to mark that separation.
