The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our son Niko, and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

This site is so good for inspiring you to write every day; I would never have written as much as I have without it.

Let’s go April challengers! You can do it! If this is your first time doing a challenge, I suggest doing your words FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. You’ll feel better without worrying when you’re going to find time for them over the course of the day.

I’ve found that making sure I have personal time to write daily simultaneously ensured I also had time to maintain sanity as well (as an insanely busy undergraduate commuter student).

I wish there was an easy way or listing to go through your previous days/months writings instead of having to click on each square to see. Also, I think the interface since it meant to look like you are in a closed empty room, needs to look nicer. I think it would ne nice to look at Ommwriter to see how they solve this problem so beautifully. A little bit of thoughtful design can go a long way in customer loyalty.

I’m deLIGHTed to know that by having completed the challenge, I’m contributing to literacy. That’s just an added bonus. The first bonus was the actual satisfaction. And I just realized that in order to have an added bonus, one has to have one before that.

Anyway. Thank you for this site.

An iPhone/iPad app

Though a mobile site of 750words.com works perfectly fine and optimized greatly for writing, there is something more you can do with an app, I suppose. As for me I frequently type my 750 words while in a metro, using an iPhone, or while flying. To be short, in places with no internet access. So afterwards, I simply paste the text and it spoils the statistics as I finish an entry in a sec or two. Offline typing in an app and sync with the site would be great.
Moreover, I want to have a chance to access my entries easily using my phone. Having access to all of your entries, using a mobile or tablet app would be more than awesome with an opportunity to download pdfs or txts to your devices directly (need to transfer using dropbox or email still).
Hope you will find it useful. It is just my own experience and some thoughts about useful features I would love to see in the future.
Thank’s Buster Benson. You are doing a really nice job.

I have been working on writing a story for 3.5 years. First I thought it would be one book, then two. Now I’m thinking only a trilogy will do. Thank you 750words, and the monthly challenge for providing that extra bit of need/urgency so I actually write EVERY DAY so that I don’t suddelnly look back and realize I wrote half of what I was capable of.
Thank you.

March Challenge Met! Wall of Awesomeness! This has been such fun; daily encouragement/ stats really help daily writing. Love reading my Word Cloud aloud every day. Writing habits I put in place have changed the essence of my entries (e.g., eliminating “not”). I am so happy my weather stats appear every day and I do like the MetaTags. I still dream of appearing in The List in the “People Writing This Month” sidebar of March’s Writers, but know it is never to be. That list = dark mystery. I also dream of seeing my badges lined up like everybody else’s, instead of having a huge white gap on the left of the 2nd line and the remaining badges appearing all alone underneath. Meanwhile, I put these small things on a high shelf and write the words that shape my day. Thank you Buster & Team!

I’ve never written this many words or this many words consecutively. Thank you 750 words and buster for helping me get back into morning pages! Thanks for making it easy to write a little each day. :)

I’ve not been to 750words.com in a little while, but all it took was one day to sit down at the site with its inviting blank screen and throw up all over the page. I instantly remembered how good this is for me. I’ve renewed my commitment by starting small. I’m writing at 750words.com at least three times a week.

My head is getting clearer already.

Writing every day for six months was amazing, and even though I’m now only writing most days, 750words is still a critical component of my creativity every time I write. Thank you Buster!

Integration with Evernote!

I’ve said it before, but this would be the most awesome thing – the two tools I use more than any others are Evernote and 750words. If they worked together it would complete my life!

750 Words is the sticker book of my adulthood. I’ve always had trouble sticking with the morning pages, even though I love the idea. My hand cramped from all the writing, it took too long, I regularly forgot about it. 750 Words and the badges that I earn for showing up regularly have been all the motivation that I need to stick with it. It has only been 9 days, but that is a streak that is 3x longer than any other time I’ve tried to write regularly! Thanks 750 words!

Improve the daily reminder email

Please, please, please can we have a reminder that can be sent to phones as a text at 11pm (whichever timezone we’re in) If by that time we havent written for the day. My second 100 day streak ruined by my forgetful/busy brain. Setting alarms to write at a particular time each day futile, having an alarm go off each day at 11pm – an annoyance if I’ve already written. I need a writing monitor. This is a feature I’d be willing to pay for.

i’d really like to be able to add to the previous days’ entry rather than have a blank page every day. that probably goes agaisnt the philosophy of the site.

I am still new to the site, having written only sporadically over the past 2 weeks. I am looking forward to becoming more regular about it, but I have a question – when is the best time to do this? As soon as I wake up and am still groggy, after I’ve had my breakfast? What if I don’t get to it in the morning at all – should I still do it in the afternoon?

I love this site. I never have to worry about someone reading anything that I am not ready to let them see; and whenever I am having a nasty day, it is the perfect place to vent. It is both my creative workshop and the friend that is kind enough to smile and knod when I need to get a good rant out of my system.

I do not write 750 words each day. In fact I do not hardly ever write 750 words here. I do not write here every day either. BUT… everyday I am reminded to write, and I start my blog here many times. I write a lot at other places, and value ‘750’ greatly, even if my word count here does not show it. Here’s my blog if anyone would like to view… http://tedstrutz.com/ … I would love the feedback. I’ve decided to go for the “50,000 words in one month” badge. Increasing the number of words I write each day, to meet that goal, caused something I could have predicted, but didn’t really think about before I started: the depth of the writing, rather than just scratching the surface with 750 words per day, has brought out issues and topics and insights I would not have otherwise examined. I find myself paying less attention to the word counter and more attention to getting my thoughts out onto the page.

Thank you, again, for a place to do this important work.
