The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our son Niko, and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

750 words helps me get all the dark and twisty out of my head, leaving me with sugar and spice and all things nice! Thank-you!

I’ve improved my writing so much just by writing daily that I want to encourage others to do this too!

I really kind of LOVE the graphics on this site, so your graphic design team gets a huge HUG from me, although they will have to share this cup of coffee.

Thank you very much for your site.
I’ve been writing straight for a month and I already see the benefits when I write stories. I’ve got a greater flow and my subconscious mind isn’t blocked as easily.
Furthermore I feel how my willpower has increased a great deal thanks to creating this new habit.

As a Middle School English Teacher, I’ve tried a number of ways to stay in touch with my own writing while nurturing my students as writers. Signing up with 750 words enabled me to stay on top of my own writing goals and I can definitely say by forcing myself to be more creative, I pass that along to students. We’re so immersed in a test taking world that this project is enabling me to be more patient and understanding with my student writers. Thanks so much!

Edit Past Entries

I love the site, and have had a lot of fun writing. It would be nice to go back and edit past entries, I still keep my Penzu account active because I like the ability to edit old posts there.

Notebook

It would be a blank page that would always be editable, regardless of time. It would be a place to put on going projects, plots, story ideas, etc. I use the daily work space for my brain dump and Meta Data for any random plot points, but it would be great to have a separate notebook for projects I can work on later. :)

Cheaper than therapy, and more effective, too. My daily trip to my subconscious is helping me so much. I’m calmer, more at peace with myself. I could probably get the same effect from a blog or journal or paper diary, but the badges, streaks, and feeling of community make me come back here consistently, which matters so much. I love this site. Thank you!!

Change to the saving process

The warning that we get if it’s saving fewer words than the last save — perhaps it could be changed so it only warns if it’s more than 25 words? It is highly disruptive to the writing process when it makes me stop and confirm I want to save over a 1-word discrepancy that’s part of the normal delete-and-use-a-better-word process for some writers.

750 Words has done wonders for my writing. I’m getting fluent and expressive: not bad for a scientist type! The really funny thing is, I don’t aim for fluency and expressiveness when I write my 750 words: I merely write words as fast as I can, and concentrate on accurately touch-typing. The results are mostly gibberish, but for the rest of the day I write willingly, easily and well.

It’s hard to believe how effective this site is at keeping me writing. I’m not one to pick up a habit and run with it. For some reason, that silly streak thing is enough incentive. Thanks so much for the inspiration.

One Month Challege completed! It was my new year’s resolution to write every day, and 750words.com has been a huge help in accomplishing that. I can honestly say I don’t think I would have made it this far without the site. Having that blue horse on my profile is more motivating than I thought it would be. Here’s to eleven months more!

I’ve just embarked on February’s Quest for the Blue Horse. This will be a challenging month for me but I want to continue writing 750 words a day, and with all of you to inspire me and the help of this wonderful site, I know I can do it!

Writing Prompts

Some days I just cannot figure out what to write about — the well seems like it has run completely dry. Wouldn’t it be great if patrons could contribute to a Writing Prompts page where anyone could turn when they lose inspiration — a list of ideas of things that one could write about, a little something to prime the pump?

Buster, thank you! I am using 750 Words to organize my thoughts, goals, dreams, perceptions of the past, work life, spiritual life, personal life… I lapsed on the challenge this month as my life became chaotic, but I realize that the act of writing here helps me control that chaos.

Here’s to sticking with it all February, through thick or thin!

This site has helped me regain the discipline I’ve been lacking as a writer. Writing 750 Words every day has helped me find focus, and I now feel like I can go on to finish the second draft of my novel.
