The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our son Niko, and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

After a 172 day streak, I only missed one day before coming back. Well, that’s mainly because of Camp Nanowrimo and I’ve been writing 2000 words a day anyway, and where else would I write it but on 750 words? But now i’ve got a 5 day tail and I’m happy. Only 167 more to go!

With a predominantly poetry background, I was a little worried about my ability to generate words when I decided to begin writing fiction. Now I can’t shut up! Thanks to 750 words for giving me the means to practice and experiment.

I know its difficult to keep up with writing during the exciting summer months when there’s so much to do and so many vacations to take, but the simple act of starting my day with a cup of coffee, a little music, and a clearing of my mind here, has really helped me to be stronger and to take on the day with more clarity. I’ve found that I achieve more, I stay on goal, not only in my writing but in most other things in my life. I just want to thank SevenFifty again. This has been the best find of my life! What a sigh of relief I feel every day when I’ve written it all out!

I’d love to see more badges! Some between 30 and 100 days would be nice. Also, how about a badge for accomplishing more than one monthly challenge?

750 has improved my fiction writing, no doubt. The surprising bonus has been the improvement to my problem solving skills. I wake up every morning and start writing. Usually I find myself writing frantically about a meeting or issue at work that I’m feeling anxious over. Getting the facts down on “paper” helps me view the situation more objectively, and doing so in a no pressure vacuum ebbs away the anxiety. Thank you 750 words!

It’s been stated by others, but I must reiterate….this site is a comfort. It reminds me that I do, in fact, have something to say, even when it doesn’t seem like it.

I know I get into the habit of just writing everyday. It sometimes seems like I’m just barfing my thoughts out, but through all of these thoughts I pour out, out come some worthy nuggets.

I am so grateful for this site….. I tithe 10% where i feel spiritually fed of all money that comes my way. This is not a forced act and is done very consciously. I ask myself whenever I receive money, “show me where I have been spiritually fed?” And this site is where I feel spiritually fed a lot of the time right now. I have used these pages for 2 months now and I have had some great self learning and healing. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Improve detection of "breaks" vs. saving errors

This is the second time that your server has run into a problem saving my work, and by the time it had worked the problem out I was credited for a break.

It seems that an easy way to solve the problem would be to have the system detect for “0 words.” If there had previously been a positive number of words, and then the word count drops to zero, the default should be to assume a failure to save rather than a break.

I’ve been in a funk with my writing for a while. I didn’t really know where to start to be honest. Now that I’ve joined 750words I find that I’m not just writing out the 750 words a day, but I find myself thinking something and wanting to write it down again, instead of just letting it flit out of my head.
Thanks for the inspiration!

750 Word has helped me to get out of slumps, to break mind binds, to plan my next steps and to figure out what was wrong with situations. And to find solutions.
And along the way it helped me become a faster, more natural writer and bust writing block.
So: Best self-help tool ever!

There’s a badge for the morning and there’s a badge for night, but what about those who write on here during lunch? Why not have a badge that’s like the Noontime Cat or a Bologna Sandwich for writing between 11am and 3pm ten days in a row?

On most days, I try to write my 750 words as quickly as I can. There are those days, however, when I spend my time on 750words thinking through my fingers, solving a problem. Yes, I do mean solving. Thanks 750words.com for giving me the space to work things out no matter how long it takes. Peace friends.

I feel like 750 Words has really helped me to learn who I am over the past year. I’m forcing myself to be brutally honest, at least to me, and that means that I can face my own issues. It’s incredibly freeing and I’m so grateful that this place exists for me to feel happy with myself.

Y’all have your morning pages but I have my night pages. I find that I can process the day, have closure on it and sleep better. Waking up and trying to clear the fog from my brain hasn’t been as effective. I’ve done them in the morning but the night pages have been more beneficial to me. Just Sayin’.

Thank you, 750 Words, for making me a better writer! After over 200 days of daily writing, I just can’t imagine my days without this wonderful morning addiction. I really came to enjoy these 15 minutes or so I take every day to reflect on my day, just rant a little or set free thoughts I didn’t even know I had. Thank you so much for this website, such a simple, yet wonderful idea!

I dont always have an internet connection which means that although i write my 750 words i often cant do it on the site. It would awesome to have an app that allows me to write my words and then upload them when im online and have them applied to the corresponding days so that i dont break my ‘streak’

I use 750 Words to reflect on the day to come and to reflect on what I did last day. I feel like being my own coach and counsellor. I ask myself questions and answer them. Now I have more than 100.000 words and used it also to write for my PhD. It helps me to love writing.

After finishing the monthly challenge last month, I lost this month’s challenge yesterday when I forgot to write because I was getting ready for an interview. So, I have ponied up on my part of the contract and become a patron. In doing so, I hope to be able to finally get past the Albatross, since I now have access to being able to skip days if necessary. Thanks 750 words….having a reason to write daily have helped me keep on track!
