The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

The best I’ve accomplished in uninterrupted sequence is Albatross. I had the slip because of silly circumstances and quit. For long.
But now I’m back. And I want to really achieve the next badge. The Pterodactyl.
Also, I’ve been meaning to donate something to this site that helped many and have been postponing it for long. Today, I’ve corrected that.
I would like to thank the creators of this site for the inspiration they provide to those who strive to write on the constant basis.
750words.com is the best mind cleanser that I’ve ever used.
Can’t thank enough.

I just want to say that I love this site. It’s one of my favorite sites on the internet. I’ve been coming back to it over the last four years. I really appreciate the design, the fact that it exists, and that you two keep it up and running. Thank you very very very much!

I’m at a point where daily writings are just so routine, like brushing my teeth. It’s a habit that I’ve incorporated into my life. I’m happier for it.

After several months of trying, I finally managed to complete the monthly challenge in September. Oh, the sweet victory of seeing that turquoise horse.

The act of writing every day gives me clarity, even when it’s difficult. I find that I use it to complain about the things that are bothering me or to plan my day but no matter what I use the words for, when I see the green happy message that I made it another day and look at the row of X’s, I feel happier and more at peace than I did before.

Thank you so much for this site.

Inspirational notes are helpful, but it would be great to see the list of the threads and take part in discussions.

(I am in my first month of writing 750, but love this site)

It has only been a little more than a week, but I love this site. It is so simple to use and motivates me everyday. I immediately signed up for the month’s challenge. I broke my streak four days in, but I won’t let that discourage me! I figured by this coming up month I will have enough dedication and discipline to complete it.

I was traveling for the past 2 weeks and out of internet range. I am a dedicated 750 word writer so kept up with longhand writing the old fashioned way. I LOVE 750words.com even more after 2 weeks of pen and paper. Thanks for making 750 words available, easy, resourceful and so much less messy!

I started writing 750 words almost two years ago during my first semester of graduate school. Since then, I’ve written stories, poems, papers, and a 100-page thesis! I’ve also written through heartbreak and life’s struggles. Writing daily has helped me in every area of my life. Thank you, 750.

I really don’t know where to start saying thank you to Buster & Kelliann. I have found that it helps me become more disciplined. I am motivated to make sure I come in and do my 750 words when I’m in participating in the challenge. And even when I’m not, I find being able to come here and write my words without judgment, and in privacy anytime I need to be invaluable. I think I’ve become a better person for having this resource that Buster and Kellianne provide us. So plainly and sincerely, Thank you.

A Million Word + A Thouand Day Streak Badge

I’d like to see a Million Word Badge. I know there is one for 500,000 and it isn’t listed under badges, so perhaps there already is one and I just don’t know about it… I’d also like to see a thousand day streak badge. It’d be nice to have another badge to earn. :) Though seeing the thousand day streak on this site when I eventually reach it, if ever, would be incredible nonetheless. Thanks for all you do!

Ability to re-earn badges

I’ve taken an embarrassingly long time off of writing and I’m finding it hard to get back in the swing of things. So if I could re-earn x-in-a-row badges I feel like it would help motivate me to continue writing more. Every time I’ve tried to come back to writing I stop after a few days. Having the little badge pop up every time I hit the milestones again would really help me stick with it.

This has accompanied my morning cup o’ coffee and routine for a month now and I absolutely love it. I had previously had a practice of writing my morning pages for many months running and it was good. The differences here on 750 Words are very beneficial. Particularly the fact that I can type about three times as fast as I can write by hand. This site is wonderful and I am grateful to have been turned on to it!

I write, seeking silence, seeking to go past the small mind and come to the space where I can hear the whispers of the big mind, feel the peace and joy. I write to get to the point where inspiration comes, not worry. I write to move forward and up. I write to be clean. To leave behind the worry and the sorrow.

I write because it is my goal and it is measured and there is some discipline and structure to using 750 words.

German language

I am using 750 words since four years now. Not every day, but I am getting closer to it. It helps me a lot building a solid writing routine, as this is what I want to do as long as possible in my life. Maybe it would be a good idea to roll out the site in an additional language? In Germany we have many potential writers, whom this site could help starting to write more frequently. Think about it! :-)

I’d just love to collect lots of pretty badges! Would also be good for marking various milestones along the way to keep up the encouragement to write.

p.s. I love this site!

I am so accustomed to writing every day that I don’t know what I would do without the exercise! I have a two year writing streak and I intend to continue until I’m no longer able. Thanks for this site. It’s the best!

I just bought 6 cups for $18 – twice. Once for a time where I missed the One Month Challenge but never got around to paying the amount promised. The second just a donation because I met the challenge for September. Wanted to donate anyway because this site has been so helpful.

To have a place where I can dump about all the stuff that is going on with me these days. Also to have a place where I can do no pressure brainstorming for writing projects is so helpful. I plan to do NaNoWriMo this year and I’ve been using 750 Words to work through some ideas. Thanks!!!

Less Comments About Badges

People would just accept that there are only a certain amount of badges and then they would move on to the writing projects they know they “should” be working on.

More badges for accomplishments

Hi! I’d love to see more badges – like more badges for the increments between 30 days and 100 days. Like maybe one for 60 days. And then badges between 100 and 200; and between 200 and 365; and 365 and 500. Maybe badges for 150 days, 275 days, and 425. And maybe even some in between. It really helps to have those little milestones to shoot for. Thanks for your consideration!

So, I have now earned every badge that is offered. I hear that there is one more “hidden” badge and I’m not sure about what it is or what it could be since I’ve seen many hit 1 million words, 1,000 days and still they have not gotten a badge, and those are big accomplishments.

With this being a pay for site, I can’t see many wanting to continue to pay as much if one of the biggest features, badges, is gone pretty much after a year and a half. Badges keep this from being any other writing site (like Penzu) and makes it fun, challenging and encouraging. I say that Buster keeps them coming…even 2 extra’s put out during the year would help if they were challenging.

I love this stuff. While I was learning more about programming, I took inspiration from your use of the RID, and wrote a php script to implement it. Just a nice touch that appealed to me, of course I want more. :)

Pretty Colored Highlighting

This isn’t a brand-spanking new original idea, it’s just one of my favorite features in other writing programs — highlighting. I like to highlight creative inspirations and to-dos that cross my mind while writing so I can find them later and follow-up.

I lost the challenge this month and I said I would donate 5 bucks. I am more than happy to as I was lucky enough to become a member before the membership fee. Thank you for providing such a wonderful place for me to release everything in my head. It also allows me to get things written up for my blog.
