The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our son Niko, and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

Being an idiot, I missed the 2nd day of February even though I was signed up for the month’s challenge.
Being honest, I’ve donated the $20 I promised if I failed the month.
Being hopeful, I want 750 Words to be around for a long time, by whatever means necessary.

I have become aware of the 826 program recently, and think it’s a wonderful idea. I am very much in favour of donating to the group, and encouraging more young writers!

Hooray hooray, I wrote for a hundred days in a row! I usually forget now and then, so I am pleased. On to two hundred.

Pouring back in the pot! February is an easy time to break resolutions (and streaks), but the month is even shorter! Good luck everyone!

The monthly challenge has really been an inspiration for me. I am so proud of myself for completing my first monthly challenge and look forward to my second! Plus I wrote over 52K in January!!!! Woo hoo! Buster, this site rocks! I’m writing every day and I love it!

I am adding to one month challenge bounty because I do hope there is going to be one next month! But we don’t know, because on your tumbrl you didn’t post an update as you promised as to the future of this site. That’s why, please, let me and all the other users know if this site will continue to exist and on what conditions. I also want to thank you for this amazing site. I’ve reached 61-day streak with my first try here, and it’s a feat that I have never imagined I am capable of. Thanks again and I would appreciate info (and many of us would, I imagine!). Let’s sponsor good things, people! Buy your cup of coffee too :)

Metadata is a great feature of this site. I use COMPLAINING: to tag days I am negative. On the final day of the month I pull up my data, look at what I wrote and consider the changes I could make in my attitude. Thanks Buster; great idea.

750 Words has not only allowed me to build a solid daily writing habit, it has also proven to be a breeding ground for great story ideas, and a very affordable psychiatrist. I lurve you, 750 Words!

More badges for accomplishments

I agree with having badges specifically for returning writers; it’s a lot harder to get back to an old habit once it’s been broken than it is to get that habit started. Experienced writers need just as much inspiration as beginning ones.

750 words is a place that I look forward to visiting every morning. Buster’s love of statistics and data is something I find inspiring as well and I learn from what I write and what I found out about what I write. Love this site!

Letting my mind flow out on paper every morning has such a refreshing effect on my days! It seems the time I put into this brain-dump rewards me again and again as I get better at deciding what to write about.

Improve the homepage

Today, This Month, Eternity, etc. doesn’t really tell anything. The top layout could be improved.

I just got the NaNo badge, which I’m super happy about.

Writing just that little bit every day helps me feel like I’m achieving something, even when I’m in a bad mood.

So, I’ve just won my first monthly writers’ challenge and have therefor earned my first cup-o-joe. So, here you go, I’m giving it back (I did drink a cup of coffee to celebrate), and I’ll EARN it back from this month’s challenge. This is FUN! :D

Almost to 400 days in a row, and I am hoping there is a way to keep this site going because it’s meant so much to me. Thanks, Buster, for taking such good care of all your writers.

750 Words has been a wonderful way for me to write down my day. I have had diaries with pen and paper but it just doesn’t work for me. And I figured out why. It’s because when I would be writing my hand would start hurting and my handwriting would get sloppy but here when my hands start hurting it doesn’t matter cause I will still be able to read it. Also, I love typing and I think really fast and so my hands can keep up better with my thoughts as opposed to me writing it out I’d have to slow my brain down. lol

Anyways, this site has been awesome! January was the first month I completed a whole month. I’m super proud and hope to finish a year!

Thanks!!! :D

An iPhone/iPad app

Writing to web with iphone is cumbersome. an app like wordpress or simplenote is what we need. Any automatic backup to Dropbox, simple or, Evernote or 750 servers. Just writing this is quite difficult. The text box jumps constantly.

750words is wonderful. Not only does it do all the wonderful, head-clearing, creativity-energizing things that others rave about. It’s also incredibly easy and convenient. No worrying about running off to the store to buy an new note pad. No pens getting ink all over the place. Just come to the website and get going on your morning pages! I’ll gladly pay for this convenience.

Finally I’ve been able to get used to a daily habit. And such a powerful one. 750 words changed from being a challenge to endure to being a resort, I look forward to my daily thinking time and am glad it helps me remember my days. So much <3!

Improve the daily reminder email

I love that there is a daily reminder page for the days when I’m busy and am likely to forget – I was just thinking maybe it could be more inspirational? Maybe it could include a quotation or some sort of muse? I used to take an interest in freewriting and even just random everyday objects can sometimes help get thoughts flowing? So much love for this site though.

I signed up to 750 words because I was always looking for a challenge. I write all the time anyway, but I write my best work when I’m under pressure. This is a great way for me to pressure myself into writing fast. I’ve gotten more than 30 chapters written this way! Thanks!

I’ve only been on 750words.com for maybe 6 months, but it serves so many purposes for me: clearing my mind at the beginning of each day, working through troublesome things in my life, planning my day or my week or my month, working out problems with whatever I’m writing these days, or just shooting the shit with a blank computer screen. This is just about the only (good) habit I am happy to keep up with on a daily basis. Thanks!

It was great to be able to take 10-30 minutes each day just to write whatever I wanted, even if I didn’t feel like writing words. I’m usually one to keep a journal, and this was a great way for me to feel like I was expanding on my journal entries.

A better mobile site

I’m sure other people using 750 words have been there. They’ve finished a long day, ready to sleep, but suddenly realise they can’t. They’re still buoyed up by the events of the day, and they need to do that day’s brain dump to clear it out. I’ve only been doing this for a month, and certainly not writing anywhere near as some of the highest fliers, but I’ve hit my goal and never sat down and struggled for things to say. Indeed, I’ve begun to really need to get thoughts down, wherever I happen to have them, which too often is on the move.

I love the fact that 750words has a mobile site. It’s adequate, I suppose, for emergencies when you haven’t written anything and absolutely need to before the clock ticks over. I just wish it gave a more complete mobile experience. I’d love to be able to view stats, change goals, access settings on my phone without having to do the awkward zooming everywhere. Offline writing would also be a great plus. If we could record stats and store them offline, then upload when necessary, it would be an incredible help. My stats graph after writing on the tube is this weird disjointed monstrosity since I “write” 150 words in the 20 seconds I’m at each station.

Here’s to the next month, and my journey to Space Bird. Wish me luck!
