The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

I’ve been on the site for a month, technical difficulties have hampered my enthusiasm to write at LEAST 750 every day, but it has actually motivated me to become more tech savvy to avoid those kinds of issues in the future. I feel freer, happier and excited. Whether I’m writing crap or not, at least I’m writing. I’ve recommended the site to several friends and they are having a blast just having the challenge. The fact that is completely private is just another great perk. Thank you so much for such a wonderful outlet!

OMG. Where do I begin? When write on this site (mostly in the mornings), it’s like my mind opens up. I get the best ideas and I wind up having the most amazing time. I’m always bummed out if I miss my writing time.

I have completed another year of daily Words and since going Space Bird on the 26th December 2013, have written every day. There is no doubt that 750 words is habit forming and I confidently expect to extend my streak to a thousand in May this year. So I donate 15 cups to a really inspirational site and extend best wishes to its creators Buster and Kellianne.

Who finally got me writing again?? The wonderful humans behind this site, that’s who. As an adult, it’s good to know that I can still be motivated by adorable stickers! Thank you for the encouragement and for building a site that speaks directly to my competitive nature. You guys rule!

Happy New Year Buster, Kellianne, & all the 750 Word Writers! May this year be our most consistent in writing our words and living our lives. As always, I am grateful for this place where I can silence the editor and spill my guts on the page no matter how messy it gets. Cheers! Vicky

Thank you for this site. Even when I have nothing to say, I have somewhere to say it and encouragement to do so. Happy New Year and thank you again.

According to my Egg badge, I started on 12-29-2010. Now it’s 2015! Although I have never gotten past a 70 day streak, I’ll become a Space Bird someday! This is one site I just keep coming back to. Thanks for keeping me writing. <3

More badges for accomplishments

It would be great to have more badges. I found them to be very motivating in the beginning. However, once you get to a certain point, the next badge is so far away that it can lose the motivational pull that it once had. And, it can be all the more devastating when you somehow miss a day and find yourself even further from a new badge. I would love to see more incremental badges for those of us who could use the additional motivation and hope! Thanks!

I’ve used 750Words for a couple years now and it’s truly helped me work out my thoughts. Sometimes it’s me venting, and others I start writing down all my ideas. It’s a chance every day to get my thoughts down and actually put words to my thoughts and feelings.

Secure server for writing

Hackers will always find a way to get into a site, but I sure would love the feeling of having my words safe. On the other hand, I type fast, do not edit or censor as I write, making a lot of typos and grammar mistakes, so it’s almost humorous to picture anyone reading my entries! Sort of my own private joke.

This was actually my third attempt at using 750 words to get into writing. I have yet to make a whole month, but writing has now become a major part of my routine. I use this website as a brain dump. I come here every evening to help me clear my head before bed. I have found that I’m sleeping better now and that I wake up more inspired the next day after writing. This site is great and I can’t imagine life without writing anymore!

I LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT! I’ve tried to explain what this is all about to others (who don’t write and never have been into writing ALL their lives) And the others just don’t get it. They see it as a chore, a bind and even (horror) said it was a rip off becoming a member and paying for it . This place of fellow thinkers and typers costs less than one pint of larger, one glass of wine or one cup of coffee and you get to have the fun of it for the same cost as one drink for a whole MONTH. There is no comparison. It is a zillion times worth the (teeny) expense. There is magic herein, and it just works fab! It’s fun AND life sustaining, more than any one cup liquid. (Well… unless you were dying of thirst some place) Verba Volant, Scripta manent. xxx

IFTTT Support

Being able to automagically send my morning pages from 750 to another place would be so grande. I’m not entirely sure what needs to be built for 750 Words to suppose the webhooks that IFTTT has for “this” type actions on their end. Allowing that kind of API “export” would probably be the most flexible for the most people since now it can go out to any service that can be plugged into IFTTT as a “that” action.
For me this would be creating a new Evernote note in a specific notebook but it could be any number of things that others may want including posting to a blog or other note taking services.
I think about doing backups for important things like this (writing even if it’s throw away is a great source of ideas) in as automatic a way as possible because i know i forget to manually do just about anything.

Hi – I love your site – it’s a great process – very helpful to getting much more writing done in a manageable way, thanks! Maybe it’s just me, but I find your January rewards for daily writing, too harsh to motivate. Wall of Shame – people already feel shame, painful to miss one day missed and be put onto such a list for a month. “Wall of Almosts”. Or “Close but No Cigar”. And there should be a make-up feature, like name is removed from that list after a week of steady days. Give someone who misses a day early on, motivation to continue. Thanks for considering!

Offline Mode / photo mode

I want an offline mode to save and upload later.

If I’m camping I want to be able to get my 750 words counted even if I don’t have my internet (or my computer for that matter). On the computer it could save the timestamp and if I were to take a photo of something I’ve written it could use the timestamp from the photograph and estimate words based on number of lines.

Just because you don’t have internet doesn’t mean you haven’t written your 750 words for the day (and missed continuing your streak).

I write erratically. In times of strife in my life, I find myself here, at 750 words. Could I do this elsewhere? Probably. But community is priceless, even if you never see me participate. Thank you Buster. Your site fills me with content. And Joy. May you always have the same.

Receiving encouragement and support to write daily is invaluable to me. Though I try, I do not always write every single day. My intention of course is to do so, to click on “the daily nudge” email and get writing. But many days I let it slip. However, I liken daily writing to daily running / exercise: it’s always hard to get going but once finished I feel so accomplished. That feeling of accomplishment radiates a sense of purpose and motivation that stays with me through the day and I am grateful for it. I am so grateful for the creators of 750words for knowing this and promoting it for others to receive and reap the benefits.

I was using 750words on a regular basis, then I stopped. I have noticed my productivity go down a lot since I stopped using it regularly. Typing here every morning helps me begin to unravel and organize my thoughts for the day. My mind likes to wander, but if I can get a lot of the wandering out here in the morning then my day is so much more productive. Thank you for this wonderful site.

Trade Patronage Cups for missed days

An option to trade Patronage Cups for missed days would be great. I know in my case, I have a “special” computer that apparently doesn’t play well with the site. Rather than contact support all the time for a broken streak, it would be nice to just trade in some of my built-up Patronage Cups to fix the problem.

Tonight I reached a streak of 700 days. I’m in total awe. It’s something I could never have accomplished any place other than this site. In the beginning it was the badges that kept me going. Now I’ve gotten all the badges, but somehow I keep writing. In the beginning I struggled to get out 750 words. Now, it’s hard to write fewer than 1500 a day. It’s not that anything I’ve written is particularly erudite or would be meaningful to anyone else, but the fact that I’ve maintained any practice for that length of time is mind-boggling. Thank you, Buster and Kellianne, with all my heart. I thank as well all my fellow writers: you’ve also been a great part of keeping me steadfast in my writing. I am grateful to you all. Peace and blessings.

Improve the writing page

I’m interested in setting personal goals for writing. Right now 750 words a day is a good goal, but I’d like to work up to writing 2000 words per day.

This site has seen me through one of the worst times in my life. The ability to go directly to this site and write, purge, express, explain, question, wrangle, scream, writhe in pain, and weep has allowed me to breathe again. Writing daily has helped me to find the voice, and the laughter in me that was being silenced. I recommend this site all the time to others. It’s been a life saver. I cannot claim to be on a very long streak, but I am heartened by the longevity of others. Just knowing this site exists, and is waiting for me to arrive every single morning is enough. Namaste.

More badges for accomplishments

I’m not sure what it is, I just freaking love these badges. While the streak-number and the monthly challenges are my motivation right now, badges definitely don’t hurt. I wonder maybe about a unique badge for each month of the year? So a person could collect 12 different monthly challenge badges perhaps? Hmmmm. So many possibilities.
