The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our son Niko, and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

I love this site! I am able to dump all my thoughts out of my head and clear the slate for new more important thoughts! Cheers!

I love how easy this site makes it for me to write consistently! Working remotely one week out of every fortnight I don’t get much chance to access the site for my morning pages and instead write them the old-fashioned way. Luckily though, 750words allows me to schedule time off so I can keep my winning streaks going! Hooray for motivational badges!!

I’m so glad that people will still be able to use this site for no cost. 750 Words has been an amazing resource for me – I used it to help me stay on track with assignments, and the challenges pushed me to go to new limits as a writer. NaNoWriMo and the Monthly Challenges helped me cope with some of the most trying times in my life, and now I have some beautiful words to show for it. And I’m ecstatic that future users will be allowed to share in this experience.

Am I the only one who has looked at the Cup of Patronage icon from afar and thought it looked like a green face that was reflected on by light with a brown smiling mouth? Just me? For as long as I’ve been using 750 words, when I first see the icon, it is what I think, though when I focus on it I see that it is a cup of coffee. Just thought I’d share this absolutely random thought.
Anyways, I love 750 words! My favorite site on the internet, and the best moment of my day! :)

Having returned to 750 words after a long break, it’s been so valuable to me over the past month. It’s helped me clear my head, provided an outlet for all my thoughts and feelings, and helped me get clarity on many things already. I look forward to many more words ahead :)

Thank you so much for changing the reminder email subject line to “Let’s write 750 words today.” It might sound silly, but that makes such a GIANT difference to me! Anxiety keeps me from writing, so I eschew the word “should,” but “let’s” makes it sound like a group effort—and that reminds me of NaNoWriMo, which enabled me to write novels because I felt like I was part of a community with support all around me. Thanks for being that community every day, every month, and (I hope) many more years!

The ability to roll over our badges, get one badge in return to show we’ve done so, and start over on that original set of badges. (Similar to Prestige in Call of Duty). Sure, you wrote without distractions for ten days in a row—but can you get that badge again?

(A lexicon count.) I would be interested to know how many different words I use when I write on 750words.com. Ulysses has 265,000 words total, and a lexicon of 30,030 different words—how do we all stack up?

750 Words is always there and provides me with the opportunity to get some of the words out of my head in a non-aggressive way. The service is exactly what I need and I’m so glad to have found it.

Completing the One Month Challenge for six months in a row made me finally comprehend that I am indeed capable of making something that is good for me a habit and now I am slowly losing weight. How cool is that?

I dropped out of the April challenge a few days ago and haven’t written since. Haven’t quite figured out what was “wrong” with me… Adding this to next month’s bounty feels at least a bit like making amends…

I have been trying to write all my life and it’s always been a struggle. Your site has completely changed that. I log on and get my words done. You have taken away the stress. I am slowly but surely piecing together the book I have always wanted to write. I love your humor, the lightness, the ‘Welcome Back’ whenever I log back in…Thank you!! XO

you are an amazing group of people. thank you for creating this website. i have long tried and been on and off with my morning pages, and a lot of it had to do with the tedium of writing longhand first thing in the morning, but 750words has really helped me to become more consistent. i’m always excited to start it, every day, and for that, i thank you. also, a note: i love the simplistic and minimal design of the site and i hope you always keep it that way. it is refreshing, and i love not being bombarded with images and animation and color when i sit down to write. thanks. :)

I came here seeking to be a better writer. To use it as practice to refine and not bother revising. To learn to trust what comes intuitively. And somewhere in there, the things that have come have been life changing. It has been the purest form of psychotherapy. I have unchained myself from demons I have carried all my life in my secret, unedited writings here. They can live outside of me now and I’m no longer weighted by them or tethered to them or defined by them or in pain because of them. It’s been an exorcism of emotional baggage of epic proportions. I came here to be a better writer but I’ve become a better person. Many thanks.

Writer's Forum?

I would like a way to connect with other writers on 750 words. Perhaps a simple hosted Forum would be a low key way to do it without turning this into a Facebook site?

A friend introduced me to 750 words, but then she decided not to use it. I don’t know anyone else here and the list of writers each day is too long to browse.

I feel greatly in touch with myself and energized on the mornings that I write. I feel grateful to the world (and to you!). But I want to share that feeling and maybe connect with others who feel the same.

I’d participate in a forum if there was one.

Thanks

I think it’d be neat to just be sitting down anywhere and get your feelings out. Not everybody has a laptop they take everywhere with them but almost everyone these days has a Smart Phone that they can use.
